My personal opinion is that 'a game of the generation' should be a bit of a game changer or a near perfection of previous ideas or a mix, Not an incremental improvement on something already done.

1) Valkyria Chronicles - nothing else has come close to topping this game for me either this or last gen.
2) Xenoblade Chronicles - best RPG of the generation bar none and its on the Wii who`d have thunk it.

Darksiders (I didn't expect much, but it was a really god Zelda-clone

Alpha Protocoll (mediocre gameplay at best, but damn, the rest of it ist awesome)

Eternal Sonata (It look so great and promising, but was ultimately just really boring)
Hitman Absolution (Worst Hitman to date by far)

I suppose technically the one that I put the most hours into was World of WarCraft, but despite the years I put into that game's raiding scene... I'm still not entirely sure if I actually liked the game. After having left the game, pretty much all of my fondness for it comes from the social side of hanging out with friends in the guild, not the gameplay.
