Let's see... I am unable to rank these, but I might reach ten:
Super Meat Boy
Red Dead Redemption
Legend of Zelda (as a whole really, but mainly OoT and MM)
Assassin's Creed II
Monkey Island series
Fallout 1 and 2
Bioshock
Stubbs the Zombie

eh... yeah, that is what I can remember from the top of my head. Probably forgetting something really good. I'd say either Red Dead or Super Meat Boy takes the number one spot.

half-life series
some of the Zelda series

Thats 10 right?

oh and littlebigplanet, srry my memory for this is aweful.

I guess I'll also add Unreal. The soundtrack synergized well with the scifi theme.(yeah its not actually a word, now piss off)(if you didn't care that synergized isnt really a word then please disregard the preceding)

and while I'm thinking about this concept, Deus Ex had a fitting soundtrack despite not being very memorable.

50 edits later... :D

In no particular order:

Half-Life
Deus Ex
Hitman: Blood Money
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2
No One Lives Forever
Simcity 3000
Fallout 3
Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven
Outlaws

Honorable mentions:

>The rest of the Half-Life, Grand Theft Auto and Command & Conquer series'

>Max Payne

>Need for Speeds 2 and 3 (i.e. back when the series had original music)

>S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series (for some great ambient music, and also some excellent incidental music in Call of Pripyat)

>Metro 2033 (as above. Ambient and incidental music is done well throughout but the main and ending themes were especially memorable)

5: SSBB
4: Fallout 3 (GNR radio station)
3: Donkey Kong Country
2: Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga
1: Frogger (1997)

Well I usually don't keep track of those and alot of the old ones just fade in memory, but the ones that just stick with me:
- Borderlands intro, I will remember it's awesomeness to the grave
- Homeworld 1/2, very hard to explain but it's ominous yet sterile sound sat so incredibly well with the game
- Mafia 2, even tho I'm not much for those oldies it sets the mood of where you are so very well that I always remember it (if only they would finish the game someday)
- Portal, clearly(almost forgot it), if nothing else the credits are just insanely good

In no order:

Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater -- the music from it would have won awards if it was in a movie.
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time -- because everyone knows and loves it.
Portal -- the ending. Rest my case.
Mass Effect -- the ending credits by Faunts is amazing.
Dragon Age: Origins -- There's just such a variety of tunes for each emotion it tries to evoke.
Halo: Combat Evolved -- the opening music has just become epic in and of itself.
Final Fantasy X -- You just hear the music now, and know exactly where you would be in game.
Fallout 3 -- new music wouldn't have suited it, the classics they chose were perfect.
Plants vs Zombies (silly, but true) -- it's just too cute.
Braid -- because it was clever how the music was chosen for how it sounded played forwards and backwards.

The only game whose soundtrack I know or remember is Final Fantasy 8, and I absolutely love it. Come to think of it, I also know some FF7 songs. Other than that, it is just the Portal closing credits song that I remember. That was great. I'm sure other games I played had good soundtracks as well, but I just don't remember them that well.

1. Command and Conquer- We are going to have to act, if we want to live in a different world
2. Civ IV- Baba Yetu anyone? Only time I've cried at a fucking menu screen.
3. Morrowind
4. Metroid Prime 2- never had a gamecube, but I fucken loved that menu music
5. Doom
6. Portal- While you're dying, I will be still alive.

Meh, that's enough.

If I had to do 10 (in a random order since they're all awesome) these would be mine

1: Brutal Legend (seriously, how could it NOT be on here)
2: Stubbs the Zombie (I swear to god everytime I hear "lollipop" I think of zombies now)
3: Halo series (I cant help it, that theme is awesome)
4: Scott Pilgrim vs the World: The Game (Dont deny it, those 8 bit themes were killer)
5: Advanced Wars Series (two words: SUPA POWER!!!)
6: Need For Speed Hot Pursuit 2 on the original Xbox (brilliant driving songs in that one)
7: Original Starcraft (the Terran theme in particular, I hum that one all the time)
8: Left 4 Dead 2 (The Midnight Riders throughout the game were awesome)
9: Battlefield Heroes (I actually have this song on my phone and am desperately trying to make it the ringtone.
10: Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 (I have no idea why, but i remember the soundtrack being great)

11: SPINAL TAP: Because this one goes to ELEVEN (yes its not a game but I saw another guy post 11 so I just couldnt resist

Why the crap didn't they keep using that kinda stuff instead of the boring junk we got for the rest of the game?
EDIT: OP: Mechwarrior 2 soundtrack. Pure gold to this day.
