Star Control 2
Civilization # (probably 2 for the next couple of days, goodbye stacks of doom!)
Master of Magic, though sorta tempted to name Mount and Blade: Warband

1. Mass Effect series
Sure the 2nd one is my fave but can't count one, without including the other. The Mass Effect franchise certainly has one of the best stories in a sci-fi game, set in space but that's not the reason why I love it so much. It's the believable galactic setting and I just like how Bioware slowly but continuously feeds the player with information on the different worlds, systems, races and technologies. I'm just fascinated by the possibilities of future technology and space travel and it's the same reason why I like novels such as "The Foundation saga" by Isaac Asimov.

The characters are also a major reason and it's great being able to get to know all of them, whilst getting accustomed to the traits and mannerism of each race. So to Bioware... thank you and I'm expecting great things from Mass Effect 3. ^_^

2. Fallout 3
I've played this game for God knows how many hours and I've still yet to complete my 1st playthrough. It's just one of those game where you can spend hours just roaming around the environment, completely immersed in doing whatever you wanna do. Playing this game is like living a 2nd life... with an overarching story/quest behind it.

3. Rome Total War
Probably my favorite RTS game of all-time and the singleplayer is the main reason why, since it has the most replay value of any game I've played. I just like completing the campaign as one of the Roman factions, only to play again as an Arab faction and then again as a Mediterranean faction, yet again as another Roman faction and they each play fairly differently. See what I mean... replay value.

On account of sheer time spent on the game, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. I played the shit out of that game.

Both Mass Effect games were excellent, the writing was solid and the voice acting phenomenal. ME2 in particular was one of the most polished all-round excellent games I've ever played.

Half-Life 2, simply put: next to Bioshock the straight-up damn best linear single-player game I've ever played.

Special mentions:
Warcraft 3
Medieval 2: Total War
Fallout 3
Portal

Resident Evil 4, Professor Layton and the Curious Village, and Heavy Rain. In that order. But coming in extremely close are Metal Gear Solid 2 and Professor Layton and the Unwound Future.

1) Metroid Prime - I love EVERYTHING about this game
2) The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (baring in mind that it was the first 3D Zelda game I ever played)
3) Bioshock!! It's third due to lack of replay value, though I did play it through again immediately after finishing it, if it had a bit more exploration going on it would #1!!

Cliche... but Planescape Torment is among them. Fucking best story I've come across in a video game.
Another one is Jedi Knight: Jedi Outcast and the follow-up Jedi Academy (same engine, very similar except not, so I count Academy as a kinda expansion pack). Great fun, challenging, and it gave us all time's greatest memetic badass, Kyle Katarn.
Beating him means (if you go evil) collapsing the ceiling on him in an ancient tomb, and running like a little chicken. It slows him down for about 10 seconds.
And of course Kotor. Because you are your own father.
Err... I mean Darth Revan. No spoilers, because this is known by everyone at this point.
