Can I go home now?

They are the best stealth games ever made, and nothing will top them, unless they actually make stealth a core part of the game like Hitman, don't say "What about Assasins Creed!?" Because after playing it myself, who doesn't know stealth from well anything really, I was still able to play it well.

Edit. Just like the OP, I'm not fuckin "Yathzee"(I prefer to refer to real people by there real names but most people clone, I don't particulary like the Theif games, but they are the only real stealth games I've ever played, MGS, Splinter Cell and all the others don't really force you to play stealthly, heck MGS4 has those weird badge thingys you get at the end of playthroughs for how many kills you get.

I just want to know your favorites.

3. MGS 4. Yes. I actually prefer MGS 4 over 3. Haven't played 1. Sorry everyone. I think I prefer this over 3, is because of the over-the-shoulder-mode. I was highly annoyed by the shooting and looking around in MGS 2 and 3.

2. Hitman II. I have played every single one of these games expect for Blood money. I think i prefer the second one. Totally original. I can't even explain it with so little time. But here is a good review of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hIDQGT8zgtc Altough most of the review, this guy is just shooting away, which is definitelly the wrong way to play it.

1. Thief II: metal age. I kinda feel bad for putting it up, because now I will probably have to read miles and miles of angry comments saying that I put it up, 'cause Yahtzee thinks it's awesome, but I have been enjoying it pretty much as long it has been out. One of the best games ever. I'll leave it at that.

So. What's your top 3 and what are your opinions of the games above?
Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow, and Splinter Cell: Double Agent, in descending order.

In fairness, I haven't had the chance to play Conviction yet. Actual challenge compared to the MGS games, which in my humble opinion haven't held up even as well as the original Splinter Cell over time. But SP2 and SP3 provide stealth action like no other.

I mean, drop kicking off a surface to air missile fired from a helicopter, landing on a roof and launching back with a Stinger is fun, in a second-rate John Woo kind of way, but is it really Stealth action?

Answer: no.

I'll probably go back and play Thief and Hitman at some point, and I have rather enjoyed the time I've spent with Assassin's Creed, but nobody does it like Sam Fisher.

Although, admittedly, the boss battles (usually 1 per game) do tend to suck. But the sticky shocker and the decoy cam beat the bejesus out of the cardboard box and the claymores any day.

do you see a pattern here?
Mine is pretty similar.

1. MGS3: Subsistence
2. MGS4 (like Subsistence: because of the better camera)
3. MGS2

The re-release of MGS 3: subsistence (you get the over-shoulder thing in that one ^o^) (Also best sniper fight ever!)

Splinter Cell Chaos Theory (especially the leve in Japan, where you sneak through a house special designed to be anti-ninja)

and.... um... Conviction I suppose, though it did lend itself to a bit too much shooting.

1. Thief Series (also wins my epic level design for life of the party)
2. Splinter Cell 1-3
3. Hitman 1

Are people really putting up Conviction? I only played the demo but it seems they have gone more action rather than stealth orientated.

Next question?
Seconded! Although the stealth in Splinter Cells 1 - 3 was pretty good, Arkham Asylum's stealth sections are noteworthy, the Thievery mod for UT and... and you're going to raise an eyebrow over this.. Bad Company 2 multiplayer really tickles my stab-people-in-the-back-and-kill-them-before-they-see-you bone, especially since every person you stab, you get their dogtags to add to your collection. It's just BETTER when you're stealth killing other players.

Best stealth kills? The ones where the other guy is on voice and goes "WAH JESUS! BASTARD!" when you put the drop on him, hehehe.

1. MGS4- We all know it's the best one overall.

2. Tenchu: Stealth Assassins- because this series doesn't get enough credit. It was the first 3D stealth game people.

3.Sly Cooper- Nuff Said.

1) Thief - The king of stealth games

2) Batman: Arkham Asylum - the inverted takedown is an absolute joy!

3) Alien Versus Predator (as predator) or Crysis - both for the cloaking devices which are so cool to use

I can't remember the names of each Thief game off the top of my head but I played the second one, think it was Metal Age, and I quite liked it. I'm not too much of a stealth gamer though, MGS3 would be another choice even though it was death by cutscenes.

Well...I can't really fit my list down to 3, so in no particular order...

1. MGS2
2. MGS3
3. MGS4
4. Metro 2033, you can be stealthy, but it is not strictly stealth. Absolutely fantastic game, if you can get passed some of the faults. I think it's one of those games that aren't big, but have a large cult following.
5. Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory.

I haven't played any of the thief games yet, so I'll make sure to check 'em out.
