Halo Reach (or CE for nostalgia) - unlimited potential for a FPS, great 4 player co-op campaign, firefight, multiplayer that, imo, the best at least on consoles, theater and forge

Final Fantasy - I really can't pick just one because I loved the characters from FF4, gameplay elements from 13 and 12 (I like real-time) and I enjoyed the story from most of them, I even invested 2.5 years of my life to FF11, I'm looking forward to FF versus 13 mostly due to the gameplay that can resemble games like Ninja Gaiden or Devil May cry, 2 other frachises I loved that are honorable mentions

GTA Vice City - one of the best vibes I've felt in a game

MGS 4 (2 and 3 honorable mentions) - 4 due to, imo, improved controls

Killzone 2 (3 when it gets released) - no game have I enjoyed getting a single kill more with any weapon in multiplayer, especially the sniper rifle

Timesplitters 2 (Any)
Persona 4 (PS2)
Shadow of the Colossus (PS2)

And since I can't think of an immediate fifth one, I'll say this instead:

1. Silent Hill 2: Excellent atmosphere, excellent storytelling, and just damn creepy. Brilliant soundtrack as well.
2. DOOM: Who needs amazing graphics when you can have an insane simple bloodied killfest? Not me.
3. Portal: Funny, innovative, witty, well made, and with one of the best songs ever made.
4. Bioshock: Excellent story, great setting, wonderful atmosphere, and to top it off: fun gameplay.
5. Amnesia The Dark Descent: Like Silent Hill 2, any game that can scare ME gets praise. This paralyzed me with fear.

Actually, I couldn't choose between Doom and SH2 for #1, they're both equally awesome (and Doom enemies make really really great avatars) but I guess I'm a horror guy, so SH2 gets #1, but they're both freaking amazing for completely different reasons.

Hmmmm.... probably this:

1.) Psychonauts (Ps2) Excellent story, fun characters with their own distinct personalities

2.) Resident Evil 2 (PSOne)/ Silent Hill 2 (PS2)- Resi 2 reminds me of the old George Romero movies my dad used to watch with his buddies when I was very young, they even let me watch them with them, even though I was only 3 or 4 at the time. Silent Hill 2 because of it's wonderful story, a character you can relate to, and for being genuinley unsettling and scary, especially if you play it without the lights on :D

3.) Killzone 2 (PS3)- I am not a big fan of shooters, but I found this game fun.

4.) Persona 4 (PS2)- Love the story, love the characters, I also find this game quite addictive

5.) Deadly Premonition (Xbox 360)- Love the story, and FBI special agent Francis York Morgan has established a place in my heart as one of my favourite videogame characters.

When I mentioned how much I like Deadly premonition to a friend he gave out this incredulous squalk, but I absolutely love the story, which I value quite highly. The only reason I don't have Deadly premonition is because I don't own an Xbox 360, and I wouldn't get it just for one game, but when I stayed at a friend for 3 weeks, I played it to completion and loved every minute of it.

I know I have two games at the number 2 spot, but I love both the same and they each have their own merits (please don't make me choose :( )

Could you guys please add a few sentences explaining WHY those are your favorite games? Honestly, these list threads have nothing of value otherwise.

In no particular order:

Kingdom Hearts 1/2 (PS2)- Can't decide, they're both amazing.
Fire Emblem (GBA)- I can't think of a game I put more hours into.
Knights of the Old Republic (PC)- A friend and I stayed up all night and attempted to beat this game.
Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (GC)- Pretty self explanitory.
Fallout 3 (X360)- Loved it for the vastness of the Capital Wasteland.
