1. Doom (For bringing FPS to mainstream marketing, wolfenstein was the first original idea but Doom was the pioneer!)

2. Diablo II (Awesome game still running after 10 years strong and waiting for it's sequel)

3. Age of Empire II + expansions (easily the best RTS game made ever)

4. Fallout 3 or what ever number the latest one is (Purely enjoyable stuff)

5. MAG - Awesome for what it is, well executed and an amazing gaming experience probably the best "realistic" warfare game I've played since Battlefield 2, game experience wise.

This list will be pretty much the same as all my others. There's Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII (it has proudly replaced Kingdom Hearts by having a less androgynous protagonist, a better story, and waaaaay more depth), Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arse, Beyond Good and Evil, Iji or Focus (the two best Game Maker games I've ever played), and, drumroll please...

Shadow of the Colossus. This is the single greatest game I have ever played. I wish I never played so I could experience it for the first time again. And friggin' Ico costs a hundred bucks, plus tax and shipping and handling, I don't have that kind of money to pay for a six-hour game, who do you think I am grumble grumble.

Oh, and based on the things I've heard about the Half-Life series, when I finally turn sixteen or seventeen and am of age to play them, one of them will probably make the list.

EDIT: Reading some other posts has given me a list of Runners-Up. Sands of Time, Chains of Olympus, Diablo 2, Viewtiful Joe, the Jak and Daxter series, and New Super Mario Bros. Wii. Five is too small a number.

Welcome to the Escapist.

Mine would include:
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Contra
Mass Effect
Silent Hill
Maniac Mansion

Also, while you have selected some excellent games, i would suggest that you try some older games if you get a chance. There are several amazing games before 2004.

Hm...

- Chess
- Yu-Gi-Oh
- AdventureQuestWorlds
- Final Fantasy IV
- Pokemon Sapphire

Yeah, two of those aren't video games. It's amazing how often that detail is left out in the specification.

I agree, and I do have soft spot for those classic definers, like doom and starcraft, but also for some of the newer ones, like halo custom edition and battlefront II.

edit: oh wait. BF2 is 2006...
