Welcome to the Escapist! I hope you enjoy your stay with us. Please ignore the body under the stairs and Doug, the troll outside. You may also suffer backlash from some members as one of your first posts is a new thread and a repeat, which we get a lot and can be quite annoying.

as devils advocate, this is somethign that in fact should be repeated every now and again, because of the changing gaming community, also this make other peoples preferances known, for example i have a heavy addiction to starcraft broodwar "use map settings" games, my acct is michaelab, look me up

2. This spot has to go to Team Fortress 2, what can I say? It's the best FPS on the market in my opinion.

3. At this point it becomes hard to decide the next three games were all very close, first up is Guild Wars, this was an excellent ORPG (I refuse to call it an MMORPG as it is much closer in structure to an RPG but online) It managed to replace grinding for equipment and levels with a the ability to create a decent build (Set of skills) for your character, sometimes the PvP was too reliant on ridiculous reaction times for me but it still played well overall.

4. Close behind it is Iji, it's a platformer/shooter that's completely free and equally awesome. The game is fun to play and full of eastereggs, although the main body of the game consists of only ten levels which wont take that long to complete their is so much to do after you complete those, apart from going back and completing it on various different difficulties you get different dialogue and a slightly different ending depending on how many enemies you kill. If you avoid killing anyone then you get another little bonus and there is a hidden level which is practically bursting full of eastereggs.

5. The last game on my list gets in based mainly on potential. It is the very singular Dwarf Fortress, for anyone who hasn't played it Dwarf Fortress is (or aims to be) a fantasy world simulator, it creates a world then runs through about three hundred years of history before plonking you down to either build a giant fortress for the glory of the dwarves or else play as a lone adventurer with no real set goals. The real area in which Df excels is in the details, the games lone programmer :)O) doesn't feel that half measures are acceptable and such pretty much everything is modelled to ridiculous degrees of accuracy.

Anyhow, those are my top 5, please feel free to point out exactly why your personal top 5 are so much better.
as soon as you get used to the bloody ASCII art that the entire game is run in, Dwarf Fortress is epic

That's all I can think of right now, anyway.

5.Super Smash Bros.
You liked Baten Kaitos Origins too?! That means I'm not alone! ^_^

I loved both Baten Kaitos games, but unfortunately no one seems to have heard of them. Both of them being released near the end of the Gamecube's lifespan didn't help either.

Hi all. I'm new to this. Just found it randomly, thought I'd join in.

Top 5 Games in my opinion (in no particular order)

Silent Hill 2
Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Bioshock
Mortal Kombat 3
inFamous

These are subject to change due to the release of Modern Warfare 2 and Bioshock 2

In no particular order:

Baldur's Gate 1&2
Half-Life 1
Pokémon blue!
Diablo 2
Starwars Galaxies (you know, when it was good)

In all honesty i found choosing a mere 5 rather difficult, there are oodles of games i'd have liked to stick on the list. I went for games that i have come back to and still enjoyed, opposed to games i am currently playing for the "first time" and enjoy - standing the test of time counts for something.

Shit i forgot Monkey Island...

1. ArmA 2 - Despite some rather large bugs, I find this game to be realistic, engaging, immersive, and challenging. The editor is TONS of fun and essentially makes the game endlessly expandable. It is the only game (well, game in a series) on earth that can claim to be based on actual military training simulations (VBS 2). I can hardly refer to it as a game, and I usually refer to it as, "Software," since he editor really stands out over the campaign. Don't get me wrong, the campaign is fun, but the editor allows the player to create campaigns of their own.

2. Falcon 4.0: Allied Force - This is the most realistic combat flight simulator I have ever played. I almost never tire of it because the campaign is fully dynamic, and it is NEVER the same twice.

3. Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends - I LOVE the idea of a fantasy RTS based completely on the ideas of the developers. The gameplay is not particularly ground-breaking, but I find the story to be entertaining, and the game world is interesting. Plus, the hero units are the best I have seen in any RTS that employs hero units.

4. Galactic Civilizations 2 - I have lost myself in this game for months on end. I love the fact that you can completely customize your ships, and I also love the replayability as it is (again) never the same twice. The AI is incredible and always provides a challenge.

5. Oblivion - What can I say? I enjoy RPGs as well, and this one is the one that I find most entertaining. I completely abandoned the main quest a long time ago and just cause absolute chaos wherever I go. The level of immersion is great, and I LOVE the ability to make spells and enchant items. It's a very open world that I find it hard to get bored with.

EDIT:

Runners up --->

Supreme Commander (and Total Annhilation)

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. (Shadow of Chernobyl and Clear Sky)

Command & Conquer

Diablo 2

Tribes 2

Hitman 43

My number one game is, and always will be, Okami.
2.Spore (as well as Spore Galactic Adventures)
3.Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion
4.Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare
5.Plants vs Zombies
Bad luck for Silent Hill 2, Turok: Evolution, Medieval II Total War, Supreme Commander, Bioshock and others, that unfortunately couldn't enter my top 5 games. These are also very good games.

Nostalgia have a way of clouding my mind, so leaving out those Amiga games I haven't played since... our Amiga died. :( Even though I've convinced myself those were the best, if I were to replay them, I'd probably take it back in seconds.. Anyway;

1: Silent Hill
2: Silent Hill 2
3: Okami
4: Final Fantasy 8
5: .... Uhm. ESIV: Oblivion, I guess. Closest thing we have to a (in my head) perfect RPG.

I am currently playing through Bioshock though, and by the looks of it, that could easily be my new favourite on the 360!
