When asked "what's your favorite video game?", it's VERY difficult to come up with an answer quickly! I just want to know what are your favorite video games in the world! Games that rocked your very being, took you through their world, with characters you felt at home with or games you just plain enjoyed! Please include your reasons why! To get you started, I'll give you mine. (this is actually harder a task to say than do!) :)

I'll start with number 5 and work my way up to my favorite:

5. Bioshock -
This game just had the best twist in anything I've ever seen! (including movies like Fight Club and Saw!) Seriously, I never saw that twist coming! I'm not going to spoil it for those of you who haven't played it, if you haven't, why are you reading this thread?! You should be playing it now! :)

4. Drakan -
The Ancient's Gate - Probably most of you out there will be reading this and thinking "never heard of it" and those of you who have played it thinking "Really?! This makes your top 5?" Well the truth is: yes! I loved this game so much. I loved the characters, the story, the length of the game, the world you play in was so vast, the immersion of this game was wonderful. The best thing about this game for me is that the re-playability - I could honestly look at the spine of this game and I'll be itching to play it!

3. Final Fantasy X -
Yes, I realize how strange it is of me to admit this to be one of my favorite games without enduring massive taunting for it but I don't care! I love this game :) I found it to be one of the most immersible Final Fantasy game ever! Yes, I realize that other Final Fantasy fans would have FFVII over this game any day, but I disagree. This game had great characters, an enchanting story, it was a good length, great re-playability and quite frankly no other game has made me cry the way I have playing this game and I'm not ashamed to say it! (okay, maybe a little..) :)

2. Zelda : A Link to the Past -
Those of you who recognize my name will probably guess that, yes, I am indeed a Zelda fan! I love this game to bits (16-bit pixels to be precise!) :) This game was such a huge part of my childhood and it has stuck to me ever since (thanks to the remakes!) :) Great sound, great gameplay, great re-playability, great game.

1. The Legend of Zelda : Ocarina of Time -
That's right, another Zelda title, in fact I would say the best Zelda title ever! There are no words to describe this game; it's just the best. Everything about this game is just amazing (save the Water Temple!) It is quite a triumph to create a game that is so successful and has you control a mute, tight-wearing, sword-toting protagonist. This game has THE best soundtrack! It's amazing! This is why my heart is split between cynic fan/loving fan at the idea of a Zelda : Ocarina of Time themed movie. Imagine the soundtrack translated through an orchestra as Link rides on Epona on the cinema screen! :) But then again, it would be produced by Hollywood dolts who would besmirch the good (maybe not these days...) Nintendo name. This game is awesome. Enough said :)

Feel free to share your top 5! :)

I don't really know why some of my games I really like are due to nostalgia or that I am a complete nintendo guy or something...

5.Super smash bros. melee
The best super smash bros. game by far imo. I like the twist from your typical fighter, although games like street fighter are great games too.

4.Banjo kazooie
I will admit I didn't play super mario 64 (although I am unsure whether I will like it more than banjo kazooie) Still, one of my preferred 3d platform games. Even though I haven't played super mario 64, the controls do seem better on it. Also, we need egg ammo again. I will admit people say banjo tooie is better, but I didn't play that either.

3.Mass effect 2
A nice game. Oddly enough it's one of the only newer games I can play more than once. I am into the gameplay of it, and the story was also nice the first time through.

2.Ocarina of time
A brilliant adventure game. I guess that's why so many people like it (dark link was cool and water temple was... interesting). It was definately fun and... i'll admit for some reason I could not get into the 3 days thing of majora's mask. Maybe I didn't play it enough or I didn't understand the concept when I was playing.

1.Super mario 3
Best 2d platformer ever imo. The best of mario EVER. The next 3d mario game needs to bring the P meter back (just kidding)... but I dearly miss racoon mario. Still though, it was a brilliant mario game, and unfortunately new super mario bros was good and all, but it's probably due to nostalgia that I still like super mario 3 more. Not 100% sure why though, levels more varied? Doubt it. Different power-ups? Probably not that. Graphics? No way. I mean, new super mario bros has new mechanics (especially wii), new powerups, new controls, more varied level design, why would super mario 3 be better than that?

No racoon mario? That probably explains it. If the next new super mario bros. game has a racoon mario, I will put that in front of super mario 3 as long as they keep the new super mario bros. controls and great level design.

Since my top 5 would include 2 or 3 Silent Hill games, I will limit it to one and share some other games I love.

In no particular order, except number one:

Resident Evil 2: The game that introduced me to survival horror. While alot of it may be nostalgia, I genuinely love this game. The series was in its prime, and had a good story and characters (though maybe a bit bland) but was genuinely scary and had a great atmosphere. The music adds to the tension, and boasts many scares of the jump and dread variety. One of the things that makes it effective is to see normally bustling places devoid of human life.

Fatal Frame: The scariest game I've played. The story is basic but interesting, but what this game does best is atmosphere. For a 13 year old (the age I discovered it) wandering around a dilapidated Japanese mansion was completely new. And having only a camera - hardly an intimidating or comforting weapon - really sets you on edge. It has jump scares, the feeling of dread, and "What the fuck?" moments, as well as scary sound effects and music.

Metal Gear Solid 3: I think this game did just about everything right, except maybe some awkward gameplay. It puts a strange spin on action and stealth (as MGS likes to do) adding some supernatural and science fiction elements to the game, but retains the action feel. The stealth works well, and requires lots of patience but it's ultimately rewarding to rob a guard and then knock him out. It also has many easter eggs, adding to the replay value.

American McGee's Alice: a morbid and creepy twist on a children's classic (which I should get around to reading) this game is best for its environments and music/sound effects. The combat works fairly well, and it's fun to see which toy you'll get next. Another thing that makes it so good is the transformation that each familiar character undergoes - the Cheshire Cat, for example, has no fur but is covered in tattoos and has an ear ring. He still helps you along with his sly voice, though!
The game is also replayable, despite a lack of easter eggs or anything of the sort.

Silent Hill 2: My favourite game of all time. It has a deep story that pulls at your heart but also your head, characters that make you feel uneasy but not threatened, scary and atmospheric environments and an amazing soundtrack that stands on its own as well as in the game. The monsters, like so many other things in the game, are drenched in symbolism and are scary for their face value and interesting for what they represent and why they torment the protagonist. The sound effects are excellent, and there are so many hidden things that I'm still finding them after 9 playthroughs and 5 years after first playing it - different endings, bonus weapons, hidden pictures in the environment, etc, etc. The protagonist, James, is a sad and tragic figure who is easy to empathize with, but is a strong man, determined in his journey. One of the greatest things about SH2 is that everything is open to interpretation - who is the real villain? Which is the true ending? What happened to the characters afterwards? What does a certain monster or change in the environment?
The only drawback is the combat, but it works well enough and isn't the main focus of the game.
I love Silent Hill 2, and the series as a whole. :)

Hmm... I find this question to be almost impossible to answer. There are too many great games out there to fit into a measly 5-point list. But, what the hell, I'll give it a shot.

5) Ascendancy for the PC. It was the first 4X game I ever played. And I loved it so much I played it until I knew everything about it. And that is quite the feat since I did not speak very good English 1995.

4) Silent Storm for the PC. I picked this game up on a whim. I felt like a turn-based game and saw this sitting in the bargain bin at a local game store. What I did not know when I bought is was that it was going to be ass-packed with everything else I like in video games, and with a deformation-engine that was(if you ask me) waaaay before it's time.

3)Psychonauts for the PC. I will never forget this game. The theme and story was completely stop on. And it made my grinch-heart grow at least four sizes in one playthrough.

2) Planescape: Torment for the PC. If you've played it, I think you know why it's here. If you haven't played it... jeez kid, go out and get it, play it and love it! Seriously!(!!!!!)

1) ??? This place will probably forever be vacant. A lot of good games has stepped up to show their colours, but no game yet as been crowned "King of my gaming experience."

Let's see who I piss off with this list,

6. Fallout NV
I loved this game. It made Fallout 3 look like a student collage film standing next to a blockbuster. Not only did it FEEL right, I was more immersed than I think I have ever been in a video game.
5. 007 Nightfire
Added to the roster for fine memories and an amazing play time of over one hundred hours.
4. TES III (Subject to change until all TES are released. TES III Includes the two expansion packs.)
The same as NV, basically.
3. GTA III
Banned from playing since 7 years old, I was amazed at what I could do in a game when I got to play this at a friends house. Literally played for 24 hours then and there, two copies snuck in and a book later I am free to enjoy the best GTA besides SA.
2. Crash Bandicoot 3 Warped
Forever in my heart will reside the furry marsupial named Crash. His death in....whenever Naughty Dog sold him crushed me. The clones the grave desicrators have spawned will rot in videogame hell for all eternity. Playing this with my father in the mornings before school, I will chalk this one up to nostalgia.

1.5 Pokemon Blue.
Gotten for my birthday and getting stuck in a Metapod VS. Metapod battle was truly just the start of a beautiful friendship. I've adored all the Pokemon games so far except for Black&White. I suppose they just felt different. I didn't dislike them but I don't feel the same for them as I do with the others.

1. None.
I will never be able to crown one game better than all the rest, NEVER.

Honerable mention goes to Crash Nitro Cart, while dreaming a year before it was developed, I had a dream that I was playing one of the clockwork levels that actually made it into the game. After noticing that that level was exactly like my dream I put the controller down, and started crying. (This was about age 12 so I could still cry.)

Thank you! Persona 3, by far the most engrossing game i've ever played. Great characters, great atmosphere. I spent 190 on this game in a month.

5. Final Fantasy VIII, Yes I know many consider VII better, or even X, but I liked 8. I liked the setting.

4. Oblivion, The sheer amount of things to do. ways to screw with the game ( honestly, make a dagger that drains 100 health for 1 sec and you never need to worry again.) The vastness of the world. Honourable memory for Morrowind, but the stiff combat and dialogue were what made Oblivion win. Yes, they all sound the same, and all look at you odd, but at least they aren't all the Minecraft guy.

3. Super Smash Brothers Brawl. If I call my friends to play video games together, we mean Brawl, by default.

2 Metroid Prime. Oh god, yes.

1. World of Warcraft. Nothing had, has, or ever will suck me in as this game does. The people, the setting, the feeling of laying sweet vengeance on a murloc town. aahh..

-Crash Bandicoot 2
Playing through those jetpack levels made me feel like the most awesome seven year old that ever lived. If I played them now, I'd probably feel like the most awesome sixteen year old that ever lived.

-Kingdom Hearts II
Fighting alongside Donald Duck and Goofy was epic. Fighting alongside Mickey Mouse was amazing. Saving my own ass as Mickey Mouse made my head explode.

-Okami
It was puurdy. And I really, really liked the story. If it wasn't so darned long, I'd probably have played it through more.

-Final Fantasy XIII
I liked the story. I liked the characters. I liked the combat because it was the only one I was actually good at. The graphics were a bonus.

-Mirror's Edge
Another puurdy one, with a little spark of replay value that I can't quite place my finger on, but it keeps bringing me back.

I didn't use numbers since I don't think I can actually order these. There round about how much I like 'em, but ask me next week and it'll probably be different.

EDIT:
Couldn't be bothered to add reasons. Just noticed I have nothing else to do. Editing 'em in now.
There are now reasons. If I work out why I felt you'd all want commentary on my post editing, I'll let you know.

From what I've seen on the Internet, its more common then most people think. But it still seems like a cult hit, or isnt considered seriously, when its one of the most solidly built JRPGs that has come out in recent memory.

1. ff7 - First RPG I ever played. it was what really got me into gaming before ff7 gaming was only a minor hobby.

2. Morrowind - My first taste of the elder scrolls. Never before had I played a game of such scope and choice. It really was a go anywhere and do anything you want type game.

3.kotor 1 and 2 - It's a tie on this one. Loved these two I did not get them till late when I bought both at the same time. Been playing them off and on ever since.

4. Pokemon Yellow - OK this is probably nostalgia talking. I never even owned the game. But I used to play my sisters all the time as a kid (she never even played the thing past the first day she got it). I had every pokemon (expect mew witch always annoyed me) At least a dozen at the cap I forget if it was 99 or 100. Expect one day the memory just wiped itself I never learned what caused it but it really annoyed me.

5. Metal gear solid 1 - The best and in my opinion the only good MGS game. It was fantastic back when I was a kid. It was a game that required stealth and some thought instead of the mindless run and gun crap.

Red Baron
Perfect Dark (n64)
World of Warcraft
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Mass Effect 2/Red Dead Redemption

In no particular order, and based mostly upon nostalgia and time spent with the games. I could through in a couple more titles for the n64/PS2/xbox such as KoTOR and Hitman, but I these ones stood out to me more, so I thought they should be on the list over others. I couldn't make up my mind between ME2 and RDRedemption - they are the two most recent games I actually felt compelled by a fantastic experience to finish, and I am glad I experienced both of them.
