I hate whenever we do one of these threads. I always end up feeling old.

That said, it was one of perhaps a dozen Atari games, I'm not really sure which was first. First game I beat was ET (which was one of the few games that you could "beat" back then).

Wow. I can't believe you actually played that game through to completion. It was so HORRIBLE. That's why they dumped all the left-overs in New Mexico somewhere. (I think that's the place, someone might want to double-check me on that.)

As far as my first game, it probably had to have been Mortal Kombat on the Genesis. LoL. The first one was SO good.
"Played it through to completion" makes a bigger deal of the accomplishment than is warranted. The game was bad, don't get me wrong, but if you knew what you were supposed to be doing, it only took about eight minutes to beat.

Literally a few days ago this was done.

But since that thread I have been replaying my first game. Qbasic Gorillas. And it is awesome. You can download it from http://telcontar.net/Misc/Gorillas/ Or however you tag links. If that's wrong, could some patient person post how to do it, and I'll edit?

Commander Keen, then Doom. Ah, I remember the days of "Hold down Ctrl + G-O-D". But alas, now its all "OMG NEW DLC 4 TEH GTA! WTF PS3 SUX N00BS". How times have changed... ugh, I feel senility beckoning.

Some educational Dinosaur-related game. Not so much a game as interactive media, but it probably counts. If not, Tetris.

spear of destiny. wolfenstein and doom come close after. By 4 years of age, I knew that zombies, demons, and nazis = bad. Who says games instill bad morals?

Mario Kart 64. Had no idea what was going on and never cared if I came last place.

I don't feel old (even though my game isn't as old as your game), but I do think these are young whippersnappers to be sure.

I got started in 1989 with the NES I played a shitload of games including Mario 1,2,&3, Duck Hunt, Zelda, Mike Tyson's Punch Out!, Contra, Top Gun, Spy Hunt, TMNT, Double Dragon, Airwolf, Ninja Gaiden 3, River City Ransom, Metroid, Mega Man 1-4, Dragon Power, Batman, Spiderman (the one where Electro was the first boss), sorry I'm just naming as they come to memory, Tecmo Bowl, Double Dribble, Indiana Jones, Wrestlemania, WWF Challenge, HOOPS, Roger Clemens Baseball, okay this is getting ridiculous. Let's just say I've been playing games since before Sonic came out, and I beat LoZ when I was 5!!!

It was either Dizzy or Space Harrier for my Sinclair Spectrum ZX (is 24)

Remember those lovely loading screens? Sounded like a modem making love to a fax machine!
