Damn that's an old one. Good grief I still used smiley faces in comments back then.Cowabungaa said:Yes, they can. I'm living under an airforce practice area, and one day some crazy ass Apache pilot flew his Apache under the bridge near my house. And that's narrow, they can.there is NO WAY that helicopters fly that low in real life
Yes it's friggin hard and dangerous to keep a helicopter safe 4 meters from a building, but explain why it's not doable.
Anyway, indeed it's a quality reveiw as usual, very enjoyable indeedI so agree on the "I stopped playing because I had to have diner 2 hours ago" catagory, I started playing yesterday after work (about half past 5 in the evening) and when I checked my watch later that evening, I discoverd (while being amazed) that it was 23:15. I loved the switching between SAS and Marines, really good variation. I do understand the people who have issues with the Whack-A-Mole AI and yes it can get on your nerves. I didn't find it that troubeling, kamikazi-enemies are even more retarded. Shame they didn't implent at least a bit of tactical sense in the enemies, FEAR did it (roughly, after a while it got predictable anyway) already, why didn't CoD4?
I still love this game, the singleplayer is short though. Time to check how good the multiplayer is.
thanks, man. I'll keep that advice in mind.ResonanceSD said:May I kindly suggest that when you do, you avoid the "I got x amount of posts" thread that seems to be almost obligatory these days?
One of the guys here, not naming any names, (Redlin5) took a few months off to prepare his 40,000th post or whatever, then inadvertently posted in a user group and got the milestone.
Oh god, how hard I laughed when that happened.
Cool avatar btw.
Since you challenged me I took on your challenge and came out on top. It took me a bit to find but I found itSassafrass said:Go find it.
Go on.
I'll wait.
It as something about Fallout 3, I think. Or Football Manager 2007. I think. I would look but I'm also incredibly lazy.
Sassafrass said:for the fallout order, try the game of the year edition. takes longer to get, but has all add-ons. also if you like football, try and get football manager 2010 when its released (don't know when)
Huh? I never knew of that one. And there is even a link at the top of the thread...I never did click it because I always thought it was just the Google search from before (since you can specify if you want only forum stuff or the whole site). Well now I'll be using it.TopazFusion said:http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/search/

...yeah, I don't know if you can tell but it was something that caught my interest.DoPo said:Warning a long post with no TL;DR version!Burrito With Legs said:Are there any other great table-top Role-Playing Games like DnD, Pathfinder, etc.... that my friends and I might enjoy that you play?
Well, Pathfinder is D&D. Sort of. There are different editions of D&D as well which provide different experiences, for example 3.X [footnote]Which stands for version three-point-anything - there are 3.0; the 3.5 (revised, slightly tweaked rules, still compatible with 3.0) which are more popular; and Pathfinder is considered 3.75 (as in halfway between 3.5 and 4). Pathfinder might or might not be included when discussing 3.X but overall it is when speaking of the third edition in general.[/footnote] and 4e are the latest and most popular. I'm assuming, you've played 3.X but I'd suggest to try both of them and see which one your group finds better [footnote]Suggesting or giving recommendation about either edition is a quick and easy way to incite a flame war. You have been warned.[/footnote]
There are lots and lots of other role playing games and systems out there. D&D is probably the most popular one and you might find that it inspired a lot of other games. Depending on what you enjoy, however, you might be into another sort of game. For example there is the World of Darkness by White Wolf - that has not much in common with D&D setting-wise. The WoD is modern day urban fantasy and horror setting, it is split onto several game lines which offer you the choice to play as a different type of supernatural creatures: Vampire, Werewolf and Mage speak for themselves and seem to be the most popular. If you have ever played Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines - that is set in the World of Darkness (as is VtM: redemption), aside from being a great game.
Another popular RPG is Shadowrun, which is set in the future and might be described as "cyberpunk D&D". Well, not correctly, but it gets the message across - it's a cyberpunk setting with trolls, gnomes, elves, magic, alongside hackers and cyborgs. It's pretty fun if you're into it.
What I think you might like, is the Warhammer RPGs - that is the Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, which is really close to D&D, and Dark Heresy/Rogue Trader/Deathwatch, which are set in the Warhammer 40k universe. Dark Heresy in particular is my current favourite system overall which - I love both the fluff and the mechanics. Anyway, in DH you will play as agents of the Inquisition - take that information and the title and you can guess what will you be doing, in Deathwatch you play as a Space Marine, while in Rogue Trader, well, you play nothing really that important (compared to the other two) but it's still a very good game.
I think I have to mention Deadlands. I can only give you initioal description, though - it's a...well, a post-apocalyptic wild west horror. With some steampunk elements. You better go and have a look for yourself.
There are a few other systems worth mentioning, such as FATE, GURPS, Savage Worlds and Mutants and Masterminds but they don't tend to be tied to a specific setting, more of a "we give you the tools, you use them for whatever you want" type of systems. GURPS in particular is amazingly flexible and versatile. It is also one of my favourites but not only on that account - there are lots of supplements that can help you make a game in the modern day, set it in the future, add magic or super technology and in general, you can use it to recreate D&D or any other game. Also, there is FATE - if you've read the Dresden Files, there is an RPG that uses the FATE system, and it's rather good. Even if you haven't read it, it's worth taking a look.
Honourable mentions:
Ninja Burger - another favourite system of mine. The game is mighty fun about ninjas in the fast food industry. I prefer the first edition of the game, although it's tailored for quick one off games [footnote]The book is not much more than 40 pages, you need less than half of them to start playing. Assuming one person has read the book (not cover to cover - just going through the important parts once, works) you can start a game with total newbies in less than 15 minutes. That includes character creation and explaining the important stuff.[/footnote]. The second edition is for longer running campaigns, though. General premise of the game: you are a ninja tasked with delivering fast food - "guaranteed delivery in 30 minutes or less - anyone, anytime, anywhere, or we commit seppuku".
Kobolds Ate My Baby! - from the same guys that made Ninja Burger. It's only for short games but it's totally hilarious.
Eclipse phase - I haven't been able to look into it but it sounds rather good. A sci-fi horror game featuring transhumanists.
Paranoia - another sci-fi game set in a dystopian future. Also a humorous one. You will generally be fighting communists. Or mutants. Or commie mutants. Or not. Whatever the case, remember that the computer is you friend. Just trust Friend Computer and you'd be fine.
But there are countless other systems out there. You will find that most the famous titles from other mediums have an RPG based on the, such as Star Wars, Warcraft, Firefly, the Dresden Files (mentioned above). Probably anything you're into has an RPG, if not an official one, then somebody made an unofficial. If not, you can even make one yourself.
EDIT:
Well, shoo, Melanie McGreevey - I wanted to include RIFTS up there, too, but I forgot. Well, erm, RIFTS...just look it up, I can't think of a concise way to explain what it's about.

I'd been thinking about death a lot (as you do), then this popped up, and I remembered I'd accidentally made an account when I linked with Facebook in July 2010. So I posted. It took me a while to get to lighter subjects, but I've got no idea how some people on this website post as much as they dodoggy go 7 said:so you don't have to die, and face eternal nothingness, with no you to remember there ever was a you, wiht nothing to wake up from afterwards to realise that there was nothing. this. is. fucking. scary. and any way to avoid it is a positive

It was in regards to someone asking for some insight on Brink, and why it was popular (leading up to and shortly (I presume) after its release) despite it appearing, at a glance, like some TF2 knock-off.Mortis Nuncius said:There's runnin' and shootin' and 'splodies and deaths and such?!

I was wrong, Penumbra's sales apparently didn't see a very large increase at all. At least not according to one of the devs.ScrabbitRabbit said:And numerous people went and bought the whole Penumbra series because of how good Amnesia is, so that sale may well have contributed to an increase in the sales of that developer's entire back catalogue.nikki191 said:i bought amnesia through a steam sale and i like it. if not for that sale i wouldnt of purchased it.
Well Yahtzee did compare it to TF2 a lot.Mortis Nuncius said:It was in regards to someone asking for some insight on Brink, and why it was popular (leading up to and shortly (I presume) after its release) despite it appearing, at a glance, like some TF2 knock-off.Mortis Nuncius said:There's runnin' and shootin' and 'splodies and deaths and such?!

It is arguably the definitive class-based shooter, I can definitely see where the connections would be made. And looking back now, my post may have seemed a little abrasive. Probably because when I requested he review it, I pointed out he mentioned liking TF2, and compared it to TF2 a lot.

Was in a tread about in game fears. This is pretty much still true today...I hate that eel so very much.Underwater areas were you see something big off in the distance, but your too far away from it for it to attack you. You just know you have to head in that direction and as soon as you get too close it will be on you fast. I am fine in water levels when things just come after you but preparing to go after something just sitting there unnerves me.
The worst part, this all started for my in Mario 64, that stupid eel with his head poking out of the ship, I just knew I had to go in their somehow but I swore if I got close he would eat me and swallow me whole (after the classic mario games and those giant cheep cheep fish that ate you to instant death, I didn't wanna chance it).
This was in a post entitled, "How Tall are You?"5'10, pretty tallish for a chick so I'm told.
Oh and look at that, my first post. *glee*
