Are there any guns/weapons you find yourself using consistently, even in different games in different series? What is it about them that keeps bringing you back to them?

Mine would have to be the AK-47; I used a spoiler for those not interested in reading the list
I've used it and found it really to my liking in;
Battlefield 2 (I preferred the AK-47 over the AK-101 which seemed to be pretty inaccurate at range)
Farcry 2 (I used that about 60% of the time in the campaign; it. takes. forever. to. jam. A good thing really)
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Pretty good for an early MP weapon)
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (despite the weird furniture; honestly, it looks nothing like a AK-47 to me and more like an AEK-971)
Rainbow 6 Vegas 2 (When I finally got it, I realised why it was one of the last weapons you unlock)
Call of Duty: Black Ops (Good all-rounder in my books)

As well as the AK-47 itself, I've also been quite a fan of most of its offspring and similar weapons such as the AK-74 and its carbine variant, the AN-94 and the AEK-971 (not a fan of its sights in Bad Company though)
I've always been a fan of its open iron sights (except the BlOps ones) and its always had a balance of damage, accuracy and rate of fire I've liked.

Sniper rifles. It doesn't really matter what game it is. I always like having a good sniper rifle with me.

Apart from bladed or bows,

I always tend to end up using this one.
I'm with you. I like swords better than guns. I'd say that I use a variety of different guns when they are available, but for some reason I just love the P90. I'll use that more than any other.

Usually lean towards the most accurate assault rifle in the game whatever it may be, or failing that Christopher Walken. <youtube=oF5cBoAV5Ys>

Seriously, a katana, and a FAMAS or a P90
Edit: the FAMAS seems to need special ammunitions to work properly, so scratch that.

i like most 3 round burst guns but too often i get into situations where i need to do some quick killing and ill spaz out and just hold the shoot button down so i fire only 3 bullets and get my self killed.

but i seem to gravitate to the aug in most games.

Revolvers Are Just Better. [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/RevolversAreJustBetter] It's a shame, then, that ammo for them is historically rarer than Orcish romantic comedies.

Several. Lionel Messi's right boot in Fifa. Mp40/M1 Garand in every WW2 game ever made. Assault Rifles in Mass Effect, combined with Warp. Goldbrand Katana in The Elder Scrolls series. But most frequently I used plasma weaponry in the latest AVP game. Say what you like about the game but watching enemies online flee your plasma caster laser sights only to walk smack into a plasma mine round the corner, followed by the inevitable shrieking of a disgruntled idiot who didn't realise that Xeno's are meant to be on the walls anyway. Well that just made my day :p

Well done. I love that gun.
In portal really the only gun I use is the portal gun =P and that thing is pretty badass.
Hm, as far as my favorite gun in games goes, it is usually some form of a sniper. However the M16 has been a monster in every game I've played so I usually use that if I'm not sniping.

In many games I've found myself using the Desert Eagle. It's usually the best handgun in whatever game you might find it in when other pistols are too weak and revolvers are too slow.

If there is a flamethrower I will use it. Failing a flamethrower then some other form of incendiary weapon (or skill). Failing any incendiary stuff... then I go for explosions. If I'm *still* out of luck, then a classy revolver would do

Gotta be the SLR

Nothing too fancy, and while it may not have all the bells of whistles you'd expect from something like the AR-15, it holds up well enough by itself not to need them =)
