Hello Escapists!
I was looking for the right tunes to accompany my work-outs, and since I am horribly unprepared in the music department I thought I could ask you for help! What tunes should I listen to? What's an upbeat and encouraging track I will be glad to hear when lifting weights and running track?

Classical, Jazz and Reggae will only get you so far. I've gone into the realm of pop, and I am lost. Care to give me a hand?

What music do you listen to when you work out?

Haha. "Working out." That's so funny.

OT: Generic, upbeat pop music. Just like what I usually listen to. I don't have anything specific designated for workouts. Look up the Top 40 lists each week, and that's what I like.

inb4 my taste in music sucks. ;-D

Well, I just listen to whatever is on at the gym because I hate having headphones in my ears when I'm lifting. If I was to play music for myself while I was working out I'd probably pick something like:

Stuff that's fast and with a good beat, or empowering lyrics.

I don't have a distinction between different kinds of music for different purposes...its all just what I want to listen to at any given time

IN FACT I find the notion of being told how I'm supposed to "feel" in regards to music offenseive!

[sub/]screw you spotify playlists![/sub]

My buddy actually listens to operatic music such as Wagner and Mozart when he lifts heavy, so to each their own. I always poke fun at him because occasionally I'll catch him waving his hands like a conductor, in between his sets.

OT - I like listening to epic trailer music such as those from Two Steps to Hell and Mark Petrie. There are a lot of hour-long compilations so that meshes up well with my workout duration. Listening to the same style of music can get tedious though, so I also have a playlist of hiphop/r&b to mix it up, and even some Eurodance tracks when I do high volume work. I'll also have instrumental stuff like Vanessa Mae or Robert Miles. Videogame and movie OST can be a good source as well ( Come with Me from Godzilla has been a staple in my list for a decade)

PS - Just realized someone posted a Dragonforce video. Good on you mate.

Well, if I'm ever out for a jog/walk to clear my head or whatever, then I generally go with these two Within Temptation songs:

IMO they're nicely paced and sound awesome. Jogging aint exactly working out in the sense I guess you were using the term but hey ho.

The way I start my runs is a bit theatrical and ridiculous, but it definitely gets me pumped. So almost without fail, I start my runs with this song right here, from the How to Train Your Dragon soundtrack.

Okay, so it starts slow. I actually start listening to it as I'm putting on my shoes before going out the door. I make sure I'm descending the steps onto the sidewalk outside around the 1:04 mark, pausing if I need to in order for the timing to work out. I begin walking down the sidewalk around the corner, nearing the spot I normally start jogging. Round 1:56 things start to get kickin' and I get ready, and when the drums hit at 2:11 I'm off.

I then run the gamut of these two songs in this order:

And after that I put my running playlist on shuffle. Some of my favorites that I think more people should have in their workout playlists include:

(or the instrumental version works just as well, imo)

Yeah the last one's Taylor Swift, WHAT OF IT?!?!?! 'S a damn good workout song.

Strangely enough, the Super Smash Bros Brawl soundtrack.

It's got mellow songs, energizing songs, silly songs... whatever you need. I also like how they're repetitive and have no lyrics, so I can have something to pass the time but doesn't really demand focus.

Dropkick Murphys, Alestorm, Yo Ho Ho and a Bottle of Bass...just Irish, Scottish rock really.
Now, when I'm walking alone at 2 A.M. I listen to rap, and move my arms a lot for hand gestures, and that always adds a bit more kick to my heartbeat. But if anyone saw me...0.0

I personally like the Rock and Metal cathegory for this sort of thing.

Bands like Axel Rudi Pell, Hammerfall, Iron Maiden, Kiss, WASP, Stratovarius, Sabaton, Dio, Mötley Crüe, Crashdiet, Black Sabbath and so on. And usually the more fast paced songs. Durin training is the one time I also can adventure into some rougher metal like Bullet for my Valentine and other heavier bands with faster drumming and more screamo-ish singing, not full death metal though :p

Then there are the classic training tracks like Arnolds pump music and Sally go down/up

I swim, so music doesn't really come up for me, and the music the complex I go to plays is horrible anyway.

Work... out? What is this thing you call "workout?"

Serious face: I just play anything upbeat when I go out for walks or bike to work/appointments. (Yes, that's the extent of my exercise. I'd totally go to the gym if it was free and devoid of other people though.) That can be rock, metal, punk, pop, classical, techno, etc etc. Recently, however, I've started to listen to podcasts and audiobooks instead. It's great when you're on a boring walk! (I hate walking.)

I don't understand why people want fast beats in their workouts. Seems like a good way to hurt yourself.

(This is because I prefer anaerobic exercise, because I'm a pleb.)

My favourite workout track, bar none, is this beaut right here, lift and drop on the fourth beat.

And people say techno is crap.

Funny, I've been doing the exact same thing as OP the past few days. Here's what I got so far (no links because I'm lazy, it's all on youtube anyway.):
rules of nature - MGS: revengeance OST
Survival theme 1 - Serious sam 3 OST
Come with me now - Kongos
Pierce the heavens - Gurren Lagann OST
Black betty - Spiderbait
Eren's berserk theme - Attack on titan OST
Pretty much anything by two steps from hell, here's a good list of their greatest hits: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cn-VBSixBhc
