I am paranoid about losing progress, and anyone who didn't save frequently on New Vegas before a great deal of patches soon learned to regret it so i was being extra paranoid, making a new save each time and saving very frequently.

I didn't know you could only have 100 saves on the Xbox version of New Vegas. No problem, right, just delete the early saves and keep going? Sure, except that i accidentally deleted one too many saves and ended up completely wiping out a character with more then 70 hours. Oh the tears that were shed.

But wait! It gets even better!

I ended up recreating that character, because i had unfinished business damnit. Got about 30 hours in until a mysterious glitch made that file unplayable.

Fuck you, New Vegas.

I got 2 save file corruptions in Borderlands, both where roughly 50 to 80 hours in *facepalm* got burned out on BL1. Luckily there's BL2 which runs like a dream.

And there was Spyro: Season Of Ice, I was close to 100 percenting it untill a niece played it and erased my savefile (only one save was allowed)....

...my very first save file in Final Fantasy VI, the one I started in 1995 on the cartridge I got for christmas that year... where I had every character ground up to level 99 and had the legitimate paladin shield... Overwritten by my brother in 2006. He was storing my old video games while I was deployed overseas at the time. I've made another endgame save on the cartridge, but not to the level my old one was.

Far Cry 2. Anyone that has played that game knows how fustrating/difficult it is. Bear this in mind.

I was running 3 save files:

1st- Near the beginning of the game in case I ever felt like replaying it without doing that awful tutorial again (which I did not feel like doing after this incident).

2nd- Right before the "point of no return" bit. I powered through the game and only did the story/gunshop missions. Was going to use this to 100% the game after I had done the story.

3rd- My normal save file that got saved at every savepoint.

Cue to the part right at the end of the game. The last chance you get to save your game.

I saved my no. 3 save in my no. 2 saveslot by accident.

Finished the game and swore to never buy another Ubisoft product again. I know that it's not their fault but I have never been so angry in my entire life.

After completing the main story and most of the side missions in Saint's Row 2, I created a new character for a co-op campaign with a friend. After playing for a couple hours, I decided to save our progress. I wasn't thinking about what I was doing, and out of habit I overwrote my primary save file. I actually felt despair.

Depends. A legitimate one? I accidentally saved over the save file on Skyrim I had spent months working on. I had this habit of keeping only two or three saves and deleting all of the quicksaves I don't need.

There was another one that I had thought was game-ending. In Pokemon Silver I saved after starting the Elite 4. Took me a while to realize I just needed to defeat them all to escape.
