Dark caves/dungeons.
If they expect you to do something in there they should at least bother putting a few actual lights there too.

Basically every in darkness-engulfed setting. "Dynamic lighting" my behind, I want to be able to see where I'm going.

Gritty post apocalyptic worlds.

Fallout 3 was a good game but I could never really get in to it as much as I would have liked, I couldn't walk around the wasteland for five minutes without starting to complain to myself.

JRPGS.
I'm sorry, but I rather like WWII games, why?
Because it's funny to laugh at the past's patriotism.

WW2 games are overused from the perspective of the Americans/British/Russians why not make a game where your the Germans? Maybe an alternative timeline or something? that would at least be somewhat different for a time althoguh I generally like the world war games

the worst setting would have to be houses. I cannot stand the sims after playing the first one because of this. All you do is live the life of a tiny you who happens to own a massive plasma TV a 2000 room house and can't ever seem to get to work ontime bah bores the hell out of me.

a WWII game taking place in Finland when they fought off Russia.
Actually, though Finland wrought tremendous havoc upon the Soviet forces, they didn't actually fight them off. In fact, they still in the end were forced to surrender when Soviet troops, led by better generals this time such as Timoshenko, managed to break through the Mannerheim line and begin a march for Helsinki. In the end the Fins had to give the Soviets the land they'd originslly been threatened to give, plus a little extra for the trouble. To this day the Karelian land taken still belongs to Russia.

Real places, and I mean direct copes of real places. Remakes that are a little similar to the real place(AKA Liberty City from GTA IV).

World War 2 happens to be my favourite setting.

My least favourite is anything boring and brown. Fallout 3 comes to mind.
Boring and brown you say,, WW2 perhaps?

In my opinion, the two worst settings are WWII Germany or in a modern city. What really turns me off from those settings is that they're both real life setting. I don't play games to see the real world or get a history lesson. When you have nigh limitless possibilities in terms of setting, why on earth would you want to take us to a muddy field in Axis controlled France, or a city that you can actually visit? Those two make for some pretty drab settings. And since there seem to be some WWII game fans in this thread I feel it is necessary to emphasize the first three words of my post: "In my opinion..." I'm just giving my opinion and I do not mean to offend anybody with it. If you like games like Call of Duty and Grand Theft Auto, that's fine with me.
