Oh yes, I'm part of an elite group of college students that take one week out of the school year to be in constant war with each other using NERF guns and balled up socks. Also known as BG Undead, a giant game of Humans vs. Zombies. Our guns are currently banned from campus, but we'll get them back!
wars wouldnt be the same without guns, it would just be a rather nasty argument with lots of pushing and shoving (until someone finds a big stick)

back to the topic

just to suit the english nerds
im a nerd/geek/hacker (all dependant on context)because:

- use witty comebacks that most people take a while to understand
- read most Discworld Books (would read them all if i could find them)

I am a geek because I:

I am a geek because -

- I am a total Trekkie. (I don't dress up or go to conventions, but I do know the history of the planet Vulcan.)

- I spend *far* too much time online every day.

- I used to play Warhammer 40k during my school days, but now play D&D *&* Call of Cthulhu.

- I simply *have* to have the latest gadgets. (I'm due to trade in my 16GB iPhone for the new 3G one next month)

- I actually have a framed picture hanging in my bedroom of the Enterprise warping away from spacedock.

- I own & play numerous Japanese H-games on my PC.

- I listen to obscure bands (a few Japanese) that very few others have actually heard of.

- I have a subscription to The Economist.

- I have re-bought certain video games just because they came out again with a couple of bonus features, or a demo or something else trivial.

- I wear t shirts with slogans in Japanese.

- I have a STARS zippo, & a Naruto ring.

- I consider God Hand to be one of the best games on PS2.

- Just look at my avatar, for Christ's sake!

I went to GeekKon [http://www.geekkon.net/] last year and I'm going again this year. I think that gives me definite nerd points.

WHAT?!?! You've just had your Geek license revoked! The Belgariad/Mallorean are up there with the best series' of all time! I would agree that his latest stuff suck, however.

But, I still love the big three (Foundation, Dune, Lord of the Rings), so I'm not a geek cause I don't care for Eddings? Perhaps my reading of them was colored badly by me reading the Sparhawk novels first. And what's his latest thing called? The one with the bugs in the desert. I got about half-way through that series before I somehow decided that I don't like these books and should stop reading them.

Hmph, look at me defending my geek status. I'm off to Wikipedia to see what Salvatore (best writer since Tolkien) has coming next.

-I know how a lightsaber works.

-I own all of the Monty Pythons Flying Circus skits..on DVD.
-and I'm a nerd for watching things like History and Discovery channel, and finding out why the lightsaber won't work (they way it's explained in the series) - and how a lightsaber could work.

Also, Monty Python is awesome and I use to see his commercials for the flying circus collection on T.V. a lot - why does that make you a nerd? (Take this for whatever it's worth but in my books I'd see you as a "cool" person for having that)
Monty Python is a them not a him.
I'm a nerd because:
Every night as I lie in bed I listen to either Lord of the Rings, The Chronicles of Narnia, the first five books of Harry Potter or the first two books of His Dark Materials on tape.
I'm the only person I know that prefers the first two Harry Potter films to the most recent 3, because they stayed truer to the books.
I play games, a lot.
The UK release of Brawl this Friday is one of my most anticipated events. Ever.

I am a nerd.

Yes. For as long as I can remember.

And I'm not happy unless I own every single piece of merchandise related to whatever it is I'm obsessing over at that moment in time. Usually a game or anime/manga of some variety.

Today, I was compared to Hitler during a discussion of C-sections. I subsequently invoked Godwin's Law.

IRL. At lunch. With my coworkers who have no idea what I was talking about, so I had to explain.

I'm a hoog nerd.

I was pulling my fanboy rant, my apologies if I offended. I agree that the Sparhawk novels were a bit slow, however I was talking about The Dreamers series.

I loved the ones with Sparhawk in them. I get tied up in characters more than anything else, and the rich history of the characters in those series really drew me in. To this day, I still think Polgara is the most badass sorceress ever, and I read those books AGES ago. Seventh grade, I think. I picked up "Regina's Song" not too long ago because it was the only Eddings novel (on the shelf at Barnes and Noble, anyways) that I didn't have, but I haven't gotten around to it. Good? Bad?

I also read all of Robert Jordan's "Wheel of Time" series... but was secretly glad when he died working on book 15... It was getting kind of old.

As far as LOTR goes, I fall asleep to the soundtracks and can sing the ones in Elven... and the movies are my "depression movies," as noted by my close friends. I own all three extended-special-editions, and I watch through all three of them in a row multiple times when I'm really upset. I also thought Tom Bombadil should have been kept in, not just his lines, but I have this crazy-rare nerd ability to judge movies and books separately so that I'm never disenchanted with either.

I became a nerd the moment I got glasses.

At that time I wasn't willing to accept it. But now, I think I'm a better person because of it.
Yup, same here. Once you get glasses, everyone thinks you're a nerd so you might as well become one.

I used to hate being called a nerd when I was in gradeschool and highschool. There were a couple of other nerdy kids in our very small (less than 200 students total) school and we were friends. Everyone else was into sports and treated us like we were lower than pond slime because we either physically couldn't play (one of my friends had severe ashtma and I had very bad scoliosis and poor eyesight) or simply was totally disinterested in sports. We also didn't care about what clothes were in style and thought the music everyone else liked was rubbish. We didn't fit in at all and the bullies in school had a lot of fun making our lives miserable.

Then, I went to a big college with more students than the population of the county I grew up in. I met lots of people with similar interests who treated me very well. I forgot all about the jerks in highschool. I still keep in touch with the few friends I had in highschool but couldn't care less about the rest of those people. In college, I played table-top games with a bunch of other students which is a lot of fun. I also built my own PC and started going to LAN parties. I found all kinds of neat comic book and video game stores to hang out in (and occasionally buy something). We'd go to the dollar movie theater when they had film festivals of sci-fi or cult-classic movies. I was a member of the Plant ID team. We traveled around to other schools and to Society for Range Management meetings. We even won some contests.

I'm out of college now and build and repair computers for a living. I still like botany and go to botanical gardens to check out the plants. When I'm in Lowes or Home Depot, I can't help but observe the plants and try to figure out what plant families they are from and what ailments they might be suffering from. I joined Electronic Technicians Association International and am a proctor for the certification tests they give. I also volunteer to watch their booth at CES here in Las Vegas where I live so I get to go to the convention every year for free. It's a nerd's paradise.

My favorite games to play are real time and turn based strategy games and I have a lot of them. I make my own maps in games like Disciples II and Star Wars Battlefront.

You could say I'm a bit of a nerd.
