You're asked to defend gaming, what game is your reason to defend it

I want to defend the game industry for Pikmin! While it might not be my favorite game, there is nothing exactly quite like it.

I would point to a pie chart showing the net gross revenue from videogames.

If I have to defend gaming to a non gamer, I'm not going to use a game, I'm going to use the middle ground.

Money talks.

Okay since you asked, Turok: Dinosaur Hunter.
Yeah I know, I know, why the hell would you want such an old generic fps about an Indian shooting up dinosaurs in different dimensions? Actually that sounds quite good to me!

But anyway, yes it is a generic shooter about all the above but it was awesome in it's simplicity! They kicked you in a jungle with a bow and arrow and a knife, and you would actually go to places like abandoned ruins, caves, the some abandoned ruins and well... more caves, but it never actually seemed the same, also the enemies and guns just get increasingly bigger and more bad-ass!

What I'm trying to say, it's awesome and fun in its own unique and expertly simple way.
And that's what games are supposed to do, immerse you, make you have fun, make you marvel at the sight of the beautiful scenery. And a great and awesome game makes it so that years later you still can play it.

And that is what this game has done for me.
Btw you can download the game itself for free.

It's fun to play even in today's society of next gen games.

I defend gaming, because it keeps me sane and entertained. Those alone are enough. The game of choice Diablo 2 (wow is really hard to defend ;) ). There is nothing more relaxing than going home, getting a huge hammer and going on a mob killing spree after that failed test in history class, that you hate alongside with the teacher. For me history lessons have ended long time ago, but I still find it soothing to play the game. Whoever then says the game is pointless and has no real life application or skills to teach you I bring my ace in the whole. Because of Diablo 2's aggressively small inventory and large drop rate of junk to be sold, I now have no problems with ordering any limited space filled with stuff, like a fridge, a suitcase, a car's trunk and so on. Inventory management, kids, it's good for you! :)

i had to do a mock debate in gov class about this question "do video games create bad behavior in children?" i was on the "no they don't, that's bullshit" side and i FUCKING RIPPED INTO THE OTHER GUY'S ARGUMENT SO BAD IT HURT!!!!

here's the main problem; parents. a stereotypical overprotective mother (who like most parents of this type will never, ever, admit that they've made at least one bad parenting choice down the line) gets all up arms when she see's her twelve year old son play halo...3. what does she do? she makes up a bogas story created by her worst fears of what could happen to her son's behavior. then, she tells this story to every other stereotypical overprotective mother in the neighborhood, and on the PTO staff at her son's middle school. then no one in the entire community can play halo and everyone is sad.

that's when i, wearing a mjolnr costume i bought online, jump through the window of the school where the stereotypical overprotective mothers are having their video game burnings and i shout "DID YOU KNOW THAT HALO 3 IS RATE M17? THAT MEANS ONLY SOMEONE 17 OR OLDER CAN BUY IT!!! GUESS WHO BOUGHT HALO 3 FOR THEIR 12 YEAR OLD SON? THAT'S RIGHT, YOU DID YOU STEREOTYPICAL OVERPROTECTIVE MOTHERS!!! LOOK AT THE RATINGS BEFORE YOU BUY THE GAME NUM-NUTS!!!"

moral of my argument, if you don't want your 7 year old son pissing people off on halo 3 over xbox live, or your twelve year old son robing a gun store with a knife in GTA4, don't buy those kind of games....retards

or right there was a question

=-=-i would use a combination MAFIA 2 or playboy the game (that's right, you heard me) and dora the explorer adventure to the purple plant and Wii sports. both show the wide variety of games in terms of ratings. -=-=

now i could go on and talk about how video games are an art form, but i am SO FUCKING TIRED, gnite
You certainly should have gotten an A for that one
i totally did! but i was SO upset that my victory over that argument didn't go like i had it in my head; the opposite partner group coming up a lot of attacks against my case, columbine incident, blah blah blah, the whole video games have blood sex and guns ordeal. but instead, the two guys were these big old dumb football players from pontiac (and at my school that means black, but these two guys were just dumb) they gave me the absolute WORST case, THEY DIDN'T EVEN TRY!!!!

at one point they talked about video games being educational, that was something I was gonna say!!! i felt robbed of all the hard work and preparation i did to win that argument! luckily, my gov teacher is so kind and totally awesome enough to ask me all the questions they didn't, for the first time in my high school's history i boomed mr. MacLeod (proved him wrong in an argument) at the end of my sentence i said "boom" and then he said ".....did you just boom me? nice!"

so yeah, i really had it out with that project, definitely got an A+ because i did all the work beacause my partner, freind of mine, i was worried that he was gonna bring up something he wanted to say; "it happens, people can get addicted to video games, i'm addited" and i kept telling him over and over that by saying that it would ruin our entire argument. lastly, we had to get a 3rd partner b/c of the odd number of students in the class, and we got the foreign exchange student from china, we trusted him to write the 5 page essay and he ripped one page worth of wikipedia and 4 pages worth of pictures of halo and PS3's. was soooooo fucking mad, but my teacher took the essay off my grade b/c of the the exchange kid's language barrier.

The Mass Effect series is simply a glorious example of what an interactive media can be.

Not only does it give the player an epic, cinematic story, but the events, themes and tone change to match your decisions.

Defend gaming against what charge?
Yeah. And anyway, just one game doesnt cut it when there are dozens different kinds of games, all in different tech generations, and that just with consoles. Dont forget about PC games and java games, flash games ect.

I could point to Mass Effect 2, but I've been doing that an awful lot. As such, I'll take a chance and point to HAWX 2.
