The guards finally had a clear line of sight and opened fire on the grotesque arm, which was now blindly trying to grab anything near its vicinity. The sound of their weapons fire was oddly musical. In fact, it sounded suspiciously like a chord to anyone with a trained ear for music. The lasers that their weapons produced were of varying degrees of thickness, and the thicker beams were visibly wave-like in appearance.
If the Escapists looked closely at the nine guards who were firing, they were grouped into fire teams of three, and each team took turns firing with the practiced ease of repeated drill. Each burst lasted only a second, but the harmonics of their weapons fire tore through the base of the arm. An anguished Lovecraftian roar reverberated throughout their prison section as the monster withdrew, leaving its bloodied appendage to fall down through the hole.
The guards did not rest at this point, however. Two of the fire teams continued firing at the torn appendage, disintegrating it with matched harmonics. The other team of three covered the hole on the ceiling, in case anything else was tempted to come through.
Soon, the arm was gone, leaving a discolored mess on the grated deck. A trio of guards launched themselves up to the ceiling (since the gravity was still off), and proceeded to weld down the torn gashes of metal with their weapons, although the laser output sounded very different, almost subdued, as they closed the hole.
The two guards who were holding the prisoners placed a circular adhesive patch on their temples, and instantly they could understand what the guards were saying.
"-elcome to Containment Section 01000011. That-" the guard pointed to the drying mess on the deck, "-was the arm of a prisoner from a high gravity Section that was trying to escape from his Section into ours. Back in the day, things like this wouldn't happen. But now...well..."
