Don't put me into the thick of it, I'm not built for that (bum arm), I am however built and already trained for wilderness navigation and survival. I'm also highly trained in sitting in one place and being attentive; I'm a Security Guard AND I play Final Fantasy 11.

See that one guy running away.
Yeah, that would be me.

You see, I don't care enough about stuff to kill stuff for.
The other party that attacks probably does.
The fact that they care, and might be willing to die for their cause makes them obviously better then I am.

So I'm not even going to take that chance.

See ya!

Fighter pilot of some sort. That way I can blare the Top Gun soundtrack and have a bit of fun.

Either that or pretend I'm playing Battlefield 3 but with better graphics.
The latter would get you killed pretty quickly.

OT: I'd be a medic, I believe there is a law that in war you are not supposed to shoot the medic. However since the enemies we face now don't play by the rules I'd carry a combat shotgun like medics in Vietnam did, shotgun surgeon indeed.

What would I do in a war?
Easy. Go to Acapulco. Nothing bad ever happens there.
Wrong. People go Loco down there ALL THE TIME. The magic is just too strong.

Anyway, can I be transport and logistics? So long as the enemy aren't using seeker-type missiles to blow stuff up? I'd fancy my chances dodging "dumb" ordnance...
Or signals, maybe.

I can tell pretty well what my part would in a war as currently i am being trained to be a leader of mortar squad :p in wonderous world of defence forces of Finland (every male hitting 18 are called in to serve least 6 months in the army.)

Our cute little 120 cal mortar rains death from 8-10 km away and fragments spread over 80 meters ^^

now i'm not proud that im being trained to kill but still... The happy feeling you get after hearing first heavy granade flying out from tube... its wonderous

I am not surprised about the love of snipers, it is such people that favour the longest range in mp first person shooters, the easiest and safest experiences. You also find them in things like shogun 2, taking camper and elite archer armies. Worse sort of people, lazy often, get in there or do something different!

Again yahtzee is right, there is so much worship of specific roles in the military and backing of them in military sims. In this case long range murderers. Gah, all the talk of what type of heroes you be, it sounds like self blowing.

Designated Marksman.
I've spent more time with my face pressed up against the scope of a high-powered hunting rifle in real life than I have in any video game. Decent shot, too.

Well to be honest, I reckon I'd just go insane from the stress of everything and I'd just run around with a sword telling everyone that I'm a pirate...

You know, the usual

I personally wouldn't mind being general infantry. Someone has to do it. Besides, being on the frontlines would be the ultimate excuse for all my erratic behavior.

I'd pick up my dual swords and teach everyone on the battlefield about REAL war! Not the current pussy kind we got going about nowadays where you kill people from 100 yards to a 100 miles distance. Show them a couple of things you can't do with a gun. =) Seriously, I'd vote for a Bunraku state any day of the week.
Not that it would ever work, some people crave power so badly that there'll always be a couple of guns somewhere.

OT: If I was forced in a war I'd probably go with the winners, reluctantly...but I have to survive.

Well I'd do my best to turn back the clock on war so everyone had swords and I'd just run around with a sword and shield, stabbing bitches left, right and centre!

Casualty.

Don't get me wrong, in a crisis scenario, I will revert to indulging my urge for mass murder, specializing in guerrilla tactics and shock operations, but...

Let's face it. Prolonged conflicts like war cost lives.

So my ultimate role is that of a casualty.
