The day has finally come!

Youtube has made 60 FPS uploading publicly available to everyone. This is great news for gaming content on YT in my opinion. The current downside is it only works in Chrome and Safari. Moreover, in firefox it not only doesn't work, but you cannot play the video at 720 or 1080p.

It's really smooth and nice in chrome, but I guess a lot of youtubers will need to ask themselves if that is worth alienating the viewers in their audience who don't use chrome - at least for now.

Would that really alienate viewers though? Web browsers aren't as difficult to change as an operating system is and they're all free.

I dunno! I'm sure there's someone out there who would just move on if they didn't have chrome and didn't want to install another browser. I guess there's also the question that will viewers realize it's a browser issue if you don't tell them?

Wonder what Ubisoft thinks

All jokes aside I don't see the difference, my eyes are just bad.

the videos play in firefox, but are currently still capped at 30 no matter what your resolution is. i hope mozilla pushes out an update and completes their media source extension so this works, because im not using chrome again.

Interesting, mine just don't play at all lol. Are you using the HTML5 player on youtube?

Yeah I noticed this yesterday with a YouTuber I normally watch. Here is a taste and best to watch it in HD

Okay, why is this not bigger news? Not even a news article about this. For shame.

Seriously, for a lot of people this is kinda freakin' awesome, so you'd expect a lot more fanfare on this site of all places for 60fps support on Youtube. Did the general Escapist just not get the memo or something?

Yay, now my subscribers will be asking me for videos such as those ones, but I still won't do them. :D
Mainly it's because they take way too long to render when I'm doing them in 60 FPS as opposed to just rendering them in regular 30 FPS. Not to mention the file sizes are much larger and my internet as of late has been really shitty.

I can tell the difference, and now all those people who love to shove down console gamer's throats on how 30 FPS is "unplayable" will actually have support when posting a YouTube video. Now if only they could realize that many people give about as many fucks about that as Spiderman usually does, with Batman chiming in on a few occasions. :p

I noticed that on a new GeneralMcBadass vid. I just thought he changed the way he recorded or something. That's pretty cool though. And just might justify having four titans in your PC.

I uploaded a demo video and the file sizes were larger, but not double. Also rendering didn't seem to take too much longer in premier.

File size depends more on the game in all honesty, as I've had many instances in which the game I've done has more frames when rendering even if they were the same length down to the millisecond. For example, and I don't know why, Spyro the Dragon games always manage to take up more space than Kingdom Hearts videos for some odd reason, and as a result it takes longer for me.
Well that, and you have a different editor than me. I don't have Premier, I've got Sony Vegas and it's worked damn fine for me.

I'll test around with it some more with Ratchet Deadlocked and A Boy and His Blob to see how it goes. More so testing with Ratchet Deadlocked than anything since I don't even know if A Boy and His Blob Wii is 60 FPS. Probably isn't, but then again it was Wayforward who made it.

Also, we must do stuff together sometime. I'm already bringing some Escapists on more for future projects. :D

Yeah dude, I'm up for collabs! I'm sort of going to be moving next month so things are going to be a bit dicey for me in terms of time but I'm sure things can be worked out.

... four titans in your PC.

Fo- four freakin' titans? Just one of those is capable of a consistent 1080p 120fps on just about everything under the sun from my understanding, and that's assuming it's the original model and not the black or z versions. Four of those, assuming you could SLI it up or something to actually get them all running at once.... fuck, that's going into multi-monitor 4k territory at that point.

Talk about overkill...

As this site's resident Internet Explorer user I can say proudly that it works wonderfully in IE11.

Man, the difference is even bigger than I was expecting, 30fps is going to look like shit now. Thanks Obama!

That's good to know! I think Firefox's problem may be due to it's relatively poor javascript engine. Chrome and IE's are both actually pretty efficient.

It's not just about running games. Recording and then rendering them also takes up a lot of resources as well, especially if you record lossless and render them using a high quality codec. This is why many LPers who care about video quality have multiple rigs for playing/rendering.

Well that's stupid. As someone trained in cybersecurity, I do not trust Chrome or Safari at all, as they both have security holes you could fly an airplane through. By a wide margin, Firefox is the safest and nothing can get me to change. There's no good reason you can't make this work in Firefox, YouTube. F off.

Until it's made available for firefox I am not gonna switch browsers so I guess I am stuck with 480p until the point that it does.

I don't understand why it's not supported yet, since Firefox is pretty much a big chunk of what people are using aside from Chrome.
