What with the new additions, and *cough* 'innovations', to YouTube, which is just speeding up it's death by irrelevance process, and everyone ripping on it's homepage, I want to know your gripes on YouTube. It can be a type of channel, a particular channel, an oversaturated game that has been overexposed via YouTube, the homepage, anything. My personal gripe is the amount of kiddies doing CoD commentaries because CoD is popular and they're just in it for the money, and then when they don't get subscribers rolling in from their first week, they give up in frustration because they're idiots.

I don't have any problem with YouTube. I use the search bar to find what videos i want, i subscribe to the channels i like and listen to the commentaries i choose from people i enjoy listening too.

Everything else is too minute to be of any relevance to me, i dislike the ads sure, but everyone does.

All the Minecraft lets plays.

Video Bloggers.

Videos that were taken from a tv screen with a camera, instead of a capture card.

I used to hate the ads, but they are no longer a problem to me.

The fact that they constantly have to change the layout to something worse than before. I'd just got used to the layout then they changed it to something that's slower and more cumbersome. I hate having to jump through hoops just to get to my subscriptions.

There isn't a way to make all the comments invisible.

There really, really, really needs to be one.

I'm well aware that the phrase "losing faith in humanity" is hideously overused on internet forums, but Jesus Fucking Christ, I think I can honestly say that reading Youtube comments makes me like our species just that little bit less.

The ads on the Android YouTube app.

They never used to be forced upon you, now its very frequent and the skip button that is supposed to unlock after five seconds often glitches so the whole video ad plays. Not only does this waste valuable data from your price plan it appears that the ads themselves can feature inappropriate content for minors, despite YouTube having parental controls - way to totally undermine yourselves Google!

The thumbnails in the sub box are too big and the whole thing tends to go psycho every now and then and refuses to show any updates.

Seconded. Although occasionally there are absolutely classic comments, the amount of drivel completely outweighs it. I'm not claiming to behave on the internet exactly how I do in real life, but I'm fairly sure if someone was half as bad in real life as they are in youtube comments then you'd be completely within your rights to drown them in their own beverage.

EDIT: Also, isn't this more off topic discussion than gaming?

For every great video, there are 10 attention-whores seeking their 15 minutes of fame. Look, YouTube is a great site and tool. Music, instructional videos, comedy, machinima, etc it's a treasure trove of great content. But damn, there are a lot of shitty videos as well.

I can easily make you a user script for that, if you wish. Although, there probably several on userscripts.org. But I did check and found reasonable alternatives this one [https://userscripts.org/scripts/show/112886] vastly improves the comments, while this one [https://userscripts.org/scripts/reviews/151237] allows you to punch the poster in the face.

That is a bug in Flash - something to do with the buffer size being too small. Although, I notice that recently it works, so they've probably finally fixed it.

OT: Must be the comments. Although, the existence of some videos doesn't do it any service, either. And Fred. One time, I went to YouTube and I was told I was subscribed to his channel. I had never ever heard of him before that.

Filters, they bloody need some.
The site is filled with brainless shit content and because it's so brainless it is of course top rated/watched shit so you constantly get recommend spammed with it.
And I'm not even sure what sort of black magic one should conjure to punish the heathens of that comment section because it is unbearable.

Other then that it would be nice if sub boxes didn't break 3 times per week.

People ruining otherwise perfectly good clips from movies or television with their shitty taste in music.

If I search "Poltergeist 2" on Youtube, I'm looking for excerpts from the film. I am NOT looking to view 2-3 minutes of poorly synched clips set to your favorite Linkin Park theme.

(For those who are curious, this is the clip I was looking for: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n83c1aFWkOs , chilling no?)

I used to hate the fact that commenters were so hostile, then I just started messing with them.

game review says the story in a game is bad; I say "Games aren't movies! go watch mass effect!" and watch as my inbox fills with raging comments and death threats.

The commenters...literally the worst community I've ever seen.

I also really hate the autotune videos...they're just not funny, and they get way more recognition than they deserve.

Dude. I was looking up the fight scene with the Russian and the Punisher from the more recent movie (it got mentioned in a Top 10 list or something), and all is good until the part where the Punisher gets thrown into a closet and then bursts out of it. At that exact moment, the scene which had previously been a charming example of comedic violence interlaced with opera had all of the movie's music drowned out by a song which, while not specifically Let The Bodies Hit The Floor, was pretty goddamned close.

And then there's the time where some idiot took the French version of the Meet the Soldier trailer and cut in the nuke going off from CoD 4 when the soldier hits his grenades together. I would have loved to link the videos, but I cannot for the life of me find them. I'd like to think that the dumb fucks who uploaded them had a stroke of conscience, but it's probably YouTube filtering out the ones with less views from search results.

Anyway.

The thing that I despise the most about YouTube, for there are many, is how they keep changing things that don't need change. I can appreciate innovation, and the last two major overhauls they've had haven't been innovation: they've been YouTube trying to look more like Facebook.

Remember back when the subscription page was the main page? And back when it was actually useful? Back when individual channels had their own little box for uploaded videos, and watching a video actually fucking removed it? Those were the days, eh?

Dislikes. You should either like something, and give it a boost, or leave it alone. There's no need for a third option. That third option is basically "I don't care for this, and because I value my own opinion higher than the silent majority, I'm not going to go watch something else; I'm going to leave a stain on this persons work instead". Are people not content with disagreeing with something, so that they have to leave some sort of record that says "hey look at me, I'm in disagreement with someone, and rather than take the time to create my own work in response, I'm going to lazily press a dislike button towards somebody that's contributed way more than I ever will, and piss them off in the process". I think the whole hostile culture of the comments sections is in part due to that dislike option. Not entirely, of course, but partly. It's also giving a place to those annoying reply-guy people. Rather than just not watching them, and thus destroying any hope of them gaining revenue, you've got people who can't resist watching their shit anyway just to give them a dislike and post a meaningless abusive comment. If you don't like something, stop watching it.

As for content, I'm fine with it. I mean I don't mind all the shitty lets plays. Why? Because I don't watch the fuckers. You should see how easy it is not to watch them. It helps my stress levels immensely not having to hate all these people.

Well, there's always the "Herp Derp" browser extension. It doesn't get rid of comments entirely, but at least you don't have to read them anymore (and it's amusing to boot):

http://www.tannr.com/herp-derp-youtube-comments/

I wish Youtube would make up its mind about which format it wants to use. All the frequent revisions just end up causing confusion and frustration on the user's end.

I also dislike how it has a "take down first, ask questions later" policy regarding alleged copyright violations. I can understand if action is taken against some random Joe uploading entire movies/TV episodes, but they should at least review the videos first before taking them down. As an American-based company, I believe Youtube has an obligation to protect videos that fall under the U.S. Copyright Act of 1976 (allows the use of copyrighted material for parody, education and the like).

pretty much this. i haven't had any real problem with youtube like... ever. i haven't even had problems with the comment section, but it is funny to see the arguments some people get into.
