I'm in this argument with a guy who believes either that only stupid people play COD, or playing COD makes people stupid. Either way, I need some help here, as it's obvious he's so stuck in this mindset that I'll need some greater minds to help me out here. The debate takes up most of the top of the comments section here. http://www.youtube.com/all_comments?v=GqJv68pE_cY

Guy's name is NinjaRunningWild. Please help.

He's not going to change his mind. People don't make YouTube comments to have their minds changed, they make them to throw around their opinions and spew venom at everybody who disagrees. And even if he honestly believes that, who cares? That doesn't make him right. His denying reality doesn't change it, it just makes him more stupid by comparison.

Just leave it be. Debating on forums like this is bad enough, but debating in YouTube comments is like debating on 4Chan. It's just an exercise in futility.

With so many people playing, it's a statistical impossibility that no people who are above average intelligence play the game. In the same way with youtube the number of people who use it make it unlikely that all or even a minority of comments are worth thinking about too much or replying to.

The best piece of advice I can give you is to not have arguments on the internet. Especially on Youtube. You'll never be able to change anybody's mind, and you will be left feeling pissed off, with your time gone and nothing accomplished. In fact, don't even look at comments on Youtube, as there is nothing worth looking that in there.

"Youtube comment debate help"

Take any two, any two of these words and this is my reaction.

But take any three and it turns to this

For the record, here is what happens when the title happens

Dude, why? Why would you announce this at all? Do you hate yourself that much? It is a pretty wide known fact that YouTube comments are one of the lowest points in the Internet. And you willingly share with everybody how you want to perpetuate their status.

Look, I agree that 4chan isn't the place to change anybody's mind or to have any serious debate (although, it has happened) but it's nowhere near the YouTube levels. Seriously, YT is even worse than 4chan in many respects. About 2/3 of the times I decide to check out YouTube comments below a video, I end up regretting it, for it only brings me frustration. The rest of the time, I either manage to stop before I get annoyed or I stumble upon the very rare occasion when the comments are actually helpful in some way. On 4chan, at least I know that people are debating just for the sake of debate (or at least one of the parties is) and you can just sit back and laugh at them and the rest of the posters (well, if you're into that). On YouTube it's just bad.

Oh, also relevant, OP:

It's the latter. Hope that helps!

There is nothing that you could possibly say that will change his mind. You're best off just leaving the conversation.

Ok im not the most net savvy of people but even i know better then to try and seek reason within youtube comments.

The only way to "win" a youtube argument is to lose, by outtrolling the other person into "backing off" hence forfeiting the conversation (people think like this even on this forum so isnt just youtube,i swear im not making this up) until you're the last one standing after a youtube comment match and automatically become a winrar.

Pretty much, yeah. I think I can count on two hands the number of civil arguments I've had on that site. I've run into hardcore fanboys who run around spewing insults at everyone who thinks something is good, 9-year olds who can't spell worth a damn, trolls who make life hell for everyone, spam bots that get top comments, people who quote from videos like they think it's new and revolutionary...I could go on.

The only way to win, like Frankster said, is to outpost/outtroll them until they get sick of you and leave, otherwise you'll never hear the end of it, as they'll always want the last word.

I once had a pleasant "debate" on Youtube on whether or not 18th century line infantry relied strictly on volley fire, or whether they picked individual targets and shot at them.

In the end, I provided sources indicating that they mostly just used volley fire, but my opponent provided sources indicating that, at least in the French and Indian War (somewhat irregular combat involved in that one), British redcoats did train to target individual enemies. So, I guess I learned something interesting that day.

Other than that, I've never had a productive debate on Youtube. You're certainly not going to win some argument about whether idiots play CoD, or CoD makes idiots, or w/e.

Idiots play CoD, and CoD makes idiots. It's a vicious cycle.
Nah, seriously, why would you get in an argument about CoD? Why would you get in an argument on YouTube?! You dug yourself into a hole deeper than the Mariana Trench.

I'm afraid you've already lost the debate.

You're talking to someone in fucking youtube comments. Get out of there before you take more losses.

This, and everything else that has been said so far in this thread. There's no reason to be arguing on Youtube; you're just feeding the troll.

Solution: Google Youtube herp derp. Download the add on. Profit. My youtube enjoyment hasn't been ruined by comments since :D

OT: What everyone else said. Arguing on the internet is kinda bad, arguing with someone you don't anything about it is worse, and doing it on youtube is the nail in the coffin.
