Yeah, I'm fairly certain we're relatively safe here. Our bureaucrats wouldn't be able to stop arguing long enough to fill out the paperwork.

This is a huge loss to the chinese. Youtube was a way to see programming outside of their country.
They could get a somewhat glimpse of western culture.... I wonder where this will lead.

Don't know although it probably had to do with the concept than the actual content of a youtube video. By the way, is the avatar you have come from Excel Saga or is it from a hentai or anime? What is the series?
is it me or are people more interested in his avatar than the post, and that sucks man

Good old "Chinese Democracy"... always acting with the interests of its people at heart.

Whether they like it or not.

I'm not surprised by the news. China is notorious for controlling the internet which slightly angers me, it just reminds me of studying Hitler's control on information in the 1930s. I'm sure there are millions of other sites blocked in China, isn't the BBC another one of the bigger sites to be blocked?

Unlucky China...

Communism = Bad

Democracy = slightly better
Socialism = Pretty cool in theory
Communism = Socialism + Violent overthrowing of the Aristocracy
Democracy = Also very cool in theory
All systems Suck in execution due to the Easy-not-right methodology of the modern world.

Youtube is completely free, there is no regulation at all, the only thing they don't have is porn. If I were a controlling government, I wouldn't want it around either. Honestly though, in terms of the environment, restricting freedoms is probably a good thing. Frankly, I would like all the world governments to be put under a long term state of emergency to reduce greenhouse gases at epic rates. Unfortunately, they would probably abuse their emergency powers. I would then have limitations on electricity, reducing the limit as renewable takes over, which would put limits on internet useage, which would be good for everyone. Youtube sucks out your soul if you let it. It's a terrible thing, (again, if you let it be) but shouldn't be banned. I honestly think of the thing as a drug, because once you watch one thing, you find another good looking video, and the downward spiral continues.

First there's that proposed bill in the U.S that lets Obama shut down the internet and now this. The world is entering dark times... anyone got a torch?
Only barrels filled with oil... Should've thought that through a little better.

But to adress the OP:
1)Your avatar is ridiculously funny.
2)I've heard all sorts of stuff like this being thrown around.
3)I'm pretty sure that NK has a similar locked-down system.

And to all Chinese webgoers out there: That blows. Better start a riot or something (a peaceful one, if you please, no need for the violence.)

FML, Youtube is going downhill with all the copyright BULLSHIT.
Agreed. Comcast and WMG are busy running around taking a gigantic shit all over everything that isn't some camwhore giving makeup tips or some douchebag in college trying to be "wacky".

All the worthwhile content is being muted, deleted, and removed.

I hate to say this because my girlfriend is chinese and we don't always see eye to eye on things, but the fact of the matter is the Chinese government is a relatively oppressive, heavily censoring government. She was 11 when she moved to America, so it really didn't effect her much, her parents are very proud of their heritage so they won't denounce their "motherland" but they agree with me to a point, and simply make excuses for their former government's shortcomings.

Some 500,000 Chinese citizens are currently being detained "without reason" in China to this day. China doesn't have freedom of the press, and in some cases, they don't have freedom of speech. They frequently censor or ban "provocative" material from the view of the general public. For instance, the new Guns n' Roses Alum, Chinese Democracy, was banned in China. Ironic isn't it.

China certainly is better than other communist or totalitarian style governments, but be assured the banhammer is in full effect there. At least though the Chinese government generally takes care of its people, unlike North Korea.

Exactly. 17 of my videos were muted, deleted and/or removed. Also I think they now give you the choice of audioswaping with some stupid elevator music to be put over yours.

FML, I need a beer.

So what? They can't even understand half the videos on that site. Australia has already banned thousands of sites, including 4chan (all Escapist's cry in horror)
Yes for all the flak I hear Australia talk about American Government, I find it amusing just how much your government controls and censors your media. Video games in particular I hear are extremely censored down there, censored or banned from what I hear. Yet, for some reason Australians always seem to harp on america for being conservative.
