What does everyone think of people and actions like this?

More attention for Justin = Justin wins.

That goes for both the YouTube action and this very thread. I swear Escapist forum users are being paid by Justin's record company to make threads about every little move he makes. Many users on here wouldn't even know who he was if it wasn't for the constant Justin threads.

Oddly enough that's how I learned who Justin Beiber is!

Opeth are talented but I find their progressive rock noodling a bit boring, personally. I'm not really into prog rock in general, I used to like it as a teenager but I don't have the patience for it these days - sometimes I think that musically it's better to get to the point than endlessly beat around the bush.

And no I'm not kidding. I won't go into exactly why I like these bands because it's getting a bit off-topic, but one thing that's very relevant to this thread is that both are extremely savvy to the positive business effect of negative viral internet publicity. These girls are winding their haters up deliberately, while laughing all the way to the bank. They know people hate them and they especially know that people who hate them will repost their YouTube clips a million times, saying "look, look how shit this is" and they know that each time someone does that, their music gets promoted and put in the face on someone who hasn't heard it before who might actually like it... because music taste is wholly a matter of opinion after all... even if only 1 out of every 100 people who looks at a hate thread likes the music, well, if the thread gets 1000 hits that's potentially ten new fans. Now how many hits has this thread here gotten?

I know this site tries to be nice to everyone and never insult someone for any reason, but this is just ridiculous. Sometimes people just get to hate on on other people and things.
