YouTube: Videos Getting Dislikes? Help!!!

I don't understand why some of my videos are getting randomly disliked - I mean seriously, there's nothing wrong with them. For example, I made a 6 second skyrim video and it has 4 dislikes and 14 likes...what!?!?! Also, I recently uploaded a video and it got 3 likes and 2 dislikes...it was only a tutorial video...why would people honestly want to dislike a video that's supposed to be helpful without leaving a comment as to why. Why can't people leave comments with constructive criticism?

The 6-second video: it could be that people were expecting something more substantial and were irritated by the short length.

The tutorial video I don't know about, but here's what makes me reach for the "dislike" button:

- Crummy video quality. Don't record gameplay footage on your phone. And if you must, don't shake the damn phone around like you have Alzheimer's.

- Poor sound quality, or excessively loud/quiet audio.

- Unnecessary talking-over a video, particularly if you have an annoying voice or poor presentation skills.

- (Over)use of annotations and captions.

- A misleading title or thumbnail, especially when it's obviously done intentionally to attract views.

- When some guy posts an inflammatory video and disables comments (grrr).

- When people reupload EXISTING CONTENT with no addition or modification (or if they do add anything, it's some conceited intro tag saying "xX Sephiroth Productions Presentz Xx" in Babby's First WMM format).

- And, of course, ridiculously short or needlessly long videos - but chances are I'll just stop watching these rather than give negative feedback.

Some positive tips:

- Be clear in what your video is setting out to achieve and actively try to do it well. If somebody has already posted similar content, and done it better, reconsider the need to make your video at all. Try to do things from the viewpoint of the viewer. Make it succinct, not overblown and self-indulgent. Avoid visual clutter, like annotations, watermarks, and unnecessary intros or credit reels.

Feedback is very important, but dislikes with no comments to back them up are annoying and give me no way to improve, where as comments allow me make improvements.

Watch a Total Biscuit video, when he talks he sounds like he is enjoying the game and is conversation with you, while your videos it sounds like your trying to force words out about what your playing. Don't worry tho Let's plays are a difficult thing and too many people try.
On Youtube alone there is less then 5% of LPs that are actually worth watching.

Your voice is not entertaining to listen to. By using different words people can give themselves an identity, this isn't something for everyone however.
If your hunting for view and likes you need to, find an audience, make your self unique or in some way different from the thousands and thousands of let's plays and commentary videos that litter youtube.
As I have stated before your videos are not good which is why their not getting likes, you need to not only produce more entertaining content but also grab the viewers attention. Also using words like badassery, you will really need something good to make it worth the title, not just a bunch on enemies that get randomly slashed.

EDIT: "being engaging" If you don't understand this then I doubt you will get very far.

So what, killing 40 guards in Skyrim, alone, on Master difficulty, without dying or using healing spells is not impressive? What standards do you have? I've seen some of your League of Legends commentary...and I mean, your not even entertaining at all...so what do you know about good videos? I can admit, my commentary isn't the best as I'm just starting out but being a hypocrite doesn't help YOU out either. I mean "Ello there this is just a video...errr...explaining this free game" - it wasn't exactly the greatest, but your audio clarity was pretty good.

Edit: Being engaging - like saying stuff like "What do I do guys, what do I do?" - addressing your audience in particular.

Just to jump in again - I watched a little of the Minecraft video, and I think the voiceover could use work.

Unless you're a naturally gifted speaker - and very few people are - then just improvising as you go along is a recipe for disaster. Write yourself a short script, or at the very least some cue cards so you'll be able to have some flow and direction to what you're saying.

Also, it's a long video. If you can make a video shorter and still keep the important content, then you should. Leave your audience wanting more, not wishing they had 8 minutes of their life back.

The video may have been an accomplishment but again you were just slashing wildly while your health regenerated, most Call of Duty game play is more interesting to watch, as they show quick reflex and reacting to the given situation, in that video, it just looks like wild swinging with the occasional pummel hit half the time.

Edit: just because something is an accomplishment doesn't mean it's fun for people to watch.

I suspected you would attempt to look at my videos after your first reply, and so what if my videos don't have many views, I never claimed I was attempting to get loads of views or likes or anything. My league of legends videos were something I created over a year ago, with their only purpose was to show a few friends how to play the game and what it was like, every other video was a favour in some way to a friend.

I have recently considered attempting to make my youtube channel worthwhile for the first time, and I am still yet to do so.

You have asked for an evaluation for your youtube videos as you want more views.
I have not asked for an evaluation on my youtube videos and do not care about views.

That is why I am not following my own advice.

And currently from this discussion we are having it seems less likely you will ever have a successful youtube channel, as they take a multitude of things to do well.

Edit: Also you are a hypocrite yourself for dislike without comment on my own videos, and again this only reinforces my conclusion that your channel will not be successful.

Thanks for the feedback man! The whole point of that video really was to show how to get invincibility and the voice over just to tell you how to do it, now I think it's quite easy to tell from that video tutorial how the Invincibility is done. I'll definitely try to be more confident in the video.

Edit: I didn't dislike your videos without reason, you disliked my two other Skyrim videos without reason nor comment aswell. I am partial to think that you are just trying to denounce and be condescending towards other small, unsuccessfull because your channel was also unsuccessfull.

No thats not really impressive at all, in fact its what a lot of people could do if they wanted to, also we're talking about your videos, not his, so please stay on topic. Im watching the video you linked at the moment and your sound quality is quite bad, the volume of your voice just seems to change randomly, at times I can barely hear what you're saying, and not to be offensive but I do find your voice somewhat annoying, and I know that a lot of people on Youtube has disliked videos for less. Also you have quite a dull tone, it never sounds like you're that excited about what your doing. Also If your worried about dislikes on your Skyrim videos its because from what I've seen, your Lets Play isnt unique in any way, maybe try having a self imposed challenge? A Skyrim "Nuzlocke" challenge in a way? I dunno like doing a pacifist run or something unique

This is all easily fixed with a better mic and attitude towards the video. Also, I did a poll on this forum asking people what gaming videos they like to watch, the top one was Let's Plays through any video games with commentary - nothing special. Now, it's fine that you don't think that video is impressive - but different people like different things. I have no idea what other types of videos to make - Let's Plays are fun and easy to do - but it's good that you mentioned that I didn't sound enthusiastic. As for my annoying voice...well what can I do about that?

So because your videos are aimed at a smaller audience it makes it ok for you not to follow the guidelines YOU set me? My video (the tutorial) has a purpose of informing as many people as possible on how to accomplish a certain objective in a video game. It gets the point across, so why would I need to alter it in any way? The quality of the sound doesn't matter, it's easier to put my point across with sound rather than text.
