tl;dr
tunned for 85
resi will fix it
no ones making you play etc

The only real difference this last patch has made, is that it kicked all the 2 button rotation spammers in the nuts. Its made people think about stuff just a lil more with regards to threat and its showing who the better players are by how quickly you can adapt to the new play styles.

Oh, and the new raid lock out system shiz is actually brilliant.

Dumbing down? Reducing customization? No, there's more room for customization than there used to be. In old WoW you'd use a cookie cutter spec if you wanted to play optimally. There was no other spec. You didn't have points to put wherever. Now you've got at least 2 or 3 for every spec and there's really no way to completely screw yourself over. Plus, the customization that was lost in the talents system has been recouped through glyphs. There are tons of glyphs for each class to pick from and none of them are absolutely necessary in order to play your class well so you get a lot of freedom there. All in all it's more streamlined, it'll be easier to balance, and it actually gives you more freedom to just screw around.

It's not a good thing if you go from one expansion to another to another with no notable changes to the classes. I've been playing a rogue since BC. I was thinking about shelving him. Why? Because he had a dirt simple rotation that was exactly the same as when I started playing. Now my rotation has become more complex and I have to time my attacks properly if I want to get the most out of them instead of just hitting my cooldowns whenever they're up. It's still pretty simple but there's a lot more to do and I have to think on my feet-it's a major improvement and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Some classes have more to learn than others but no one is so drastically different that they can't figure out a viable rotation on their own. That's the biggest advancement here-you can figure out what to do and how to do it on your own. A game that requires research to be played properly isn't challenging, it's poorly designed. Even if you were a longtime player you had to consult sites like Elitist Jerks if you wanted to make sure everything was just so. There's still a place for that but at least it's not required reading anymore.

And seriously, anyone who complains about the stats is an idiot. This is way more manageable than before and while it may not be optimal for people who already had their characters all set up it's gonna be really nice not having to worry about so many things when gearing in Cata. As a rogue, I have three things to worry about-Agi, Hit, and Haste. Mastery will come into play at some point, and I may want some crit. All of those have tangible benefits and I can readily grasp what they do. This is quite unlike Armor Penetration which was supposedly really good except it sucked until you hit a magic number which could only be determined through the use of a spreadsheet.

In short: you have no idea what you're talking about. If the WoW playerbase is losing you as a result of 4.0 then good riddance, you're part of what's been stinking up the joint.

Youve just called everyone who owns a console retarded, and your moaning about a game you have to pay £15 a month to play. A game which in my own opinion really isnt that good. Quit moaning.

"This new change means that those people, after several years now have to completely learnt their characters again"

PLEASE tell me this is a typo and you didn't actually put "learnt" instead of "teach".

So you are complaining that they made the game too easy and that you have to re-learn how to play your class.

Er, if #1 were true wouldn't #2 be a non-issue? Your post doesn't make any sense.

Pretty much this, and yet the OP is claiming that it's being made easier.

Huh?

The change to heirloom prices cost them my subscription.
There was very little to do before the expansion, like hell am I going to sit around running heroics forever just to get the heirlooms I still wanted.

For the uninitiated, under the old system you could get your heirloom shoulders in about 8 heroics give or take, under the new system it will take about... 53?

And that seems to me like another case of someone utterly unwilling to admit that people may have different opinions than themselves.

This patch may not be perfectly balanced yet, especially not for Wrath of the Lich King content, but once Cataclysm hits the game is going to be better than it's ever been, and that includes a fair ramp up in difficulty.

You just linked to Totalbiscuit. That, my friend, makes you an objectively good person!

I like the OP's post. It asserts that making things easier is "bad" and then asserts that forcing players to learn something new is also bad. If easier is bad then it stands to reason that something that makes a game more difficult (that is, gives players something new to master) would make it "good". Seems that isn't the case.

And, it even closes with a half-hearted swipe at people who play console games where they are referred to as button mashers mere paragraphs after the post detailed that the process of playing WoW amounted to nothing more than memorized attack rotations accomplished by either key or button mashing.

The post really does have it all. Contradictions in the internal logic, baseless ad-hom arguments, and the belief that any particular opinion represents the only correct view. Congratulations OP, you have formulated a generic internet argument that has utterly failed to convince me that there is a problem with the changes made in the recent patch.

Let me guess, you played a hunter?

Anyway, it's hard to really determine what balance will be like at 85 when we're running around now with insane crit & haste ratios etc. When the pre-wrath patch hit I was convinced that my class specialization was destroyed and that I'd never see another raid spot unless I rerolled.

There are plenty of points in the first post I could pick at but I'll choose this: " shiny symbols that appear on screen and basically tell you what attack to use next." If you just wait for those you will do terrible damage and spend most of the time standing there looking stupid. Just because you don't need a degree in theoretical physics to play doesn't mean that there isn't an ideal spell rotation.

I wish I had to relearn my class since shadow priest is fucking boring and the patch changed only one thing and that is I should use MB when I have 3x Shadow orbs.

Just to clarify a couple of points and correct a couple more.

"Learnt" yes that was a typo, and no "Teach" isn't the correct replacement.

Yes I am complaining that the game has been made easier. Why you all feel the need to keep asking if that is what I am complaining about is beyond me. The fact that I then stated that Long term players have to relearn their class, does not change the fact that this is the case when taken in context. For example, Retribution Paladins, Who had a FCFS rotation of 7 attacks, now has a rotation of 3 (4 at a push), and you don't even have to think about what you are doing anymore as the game now puts shiny symbols on the screen telling you what to do next.
As for talents, they have essentially removed the ability to customize your character as you so pleased, by almost halving the number of talent points available, and forcing you to complete one talent tree before you can put any points in a different one, so how you think that is in fact more customizable defies logic.

As for comments about my being banned from the wow forums and the "Keep the Wow QQ'ing to the Blizz forums".. No my nazi comment wasn't my finest hour, but i maintain that my point was valid. And this is a gamer forum, if you dont like reading peoples negative comments about a game, turn off your monitor and walk away..
