Ys announced for PS4 and Vita

I might just have a reason to buy a PS4 sooner rather than later.

While the Persona 5 trailer was probably the biggest news for most people, a new Ys game was announced that will be released for both the PS4 and the Vita.

I've been a huge fan of the series since a few years ago, playing all the available games I could get. The last one that came out was Memories of Celceta last year, which was quite good and made lots of improvements from Seven.

Initial thoughts are that it looks like a natural progression of gameplay for Ys, and the overworld looks really nice. I like the looks of the dragon like enemy and with a fully 3d environment, there can be some cool fights. Main thing I look forward to will be the music, since the series has always had great music.

I wonder if this will be a completely new game, or if it will be a remake of the Ys V, since Celceta was a remake of IV.

Between this, Touhou and Persona 5, I now have more than enough reason to invest in a PS4. Kudos, Sony. I thought nothing short of iDOLM@STER could manage that.

I was falling asleep close the that point in the conference because it was past 3am and I was getting tired. That second I heard the name Adol Christin, I was as wide awake as I could possibly be for that brief moment of awesome. The only words that could truly describe my feelings is FUCK YEA!!

It looks gorgeous (for an Ys game), and the visuals might improve a bit by launch since this looks like it could still be early in development. Yea it looks like shit for a PS4 game, but this is pretty much going to be a Vita game ported to PS4 really. Besides, YS has never been about top tier visuals, and Falcom is a pretty small studio.

I know damn well XSEED will bring this over since the Ys franchise has been taken care of pretty well with them. I just hope the localization process wont takes as long and we only gotta wait a few months and not upwards to a year. Can't wait to see the awesome collectors edition they got planned for this one, Celcetas was magnificent.

It would be cool if this was a remake of Ys5, and that's would be next up on the list, but I'm ok with this being a totally new Ys8. I do wonder what new features they'll add/improve to the battle/party system besides bringing back jumping. Flash guarding and Flash moving made you a god in Celceta once you mastered them, so satisfying. Maybe jumping with add onto the whole air comboing from Celcetea, flesh it out some more. Also please Falcom, include a costum/armor for classic looking Adol.

Needless to say, I'm hyped. Makes up for lack of Gravity Rush 2 information right now.

I've been a big fan of the series since I played the PC port of YS II
It looks like a PS3 game honestly, and I still prefer the look and feel of the isometric view
Also how well would the mechanics and gameplay style translate to a full 3d plane?

I'm a bit worried, but still carefully optimistic

Being a Japanese company that usually puts games on a console (as far as I know), it was either a Sony Console, or a Nintendo Console, and I'm pretty sure they want better sales so PS4 and Vita it is. They probably would be able to put it on the PS3, because if they can put it on the Vita, then the PS3 would be no problem.

I wonder what the reactions would've been if it ended up a Nintendo exclusive, despite it not going to happen since almost all the games for a while have been on Playstation consoles.

Eh, it didn't really look good to me. Granted, I'm not a hard core Ys fan by any means but I have played and enjoyed a few games in the series. Maybe it's just because the game is still pretty early in development but I didn't see anything at all that looked interesting or exciting to me. I'm definitely in "wait and see" mode on this one.

Well lurking on NeoGAF managed to scrounge up some new info that I guess was revealed shortly after:

- Development 30% complete
- Story takes place before 7 and between 5~6
- New action system
- Wants to take advantage of PS4 functions and release as fast as possible
- Huge focus on the ocean

So it's a spin off game and not Ys8. The big focus on the ocean makes me wonder if there might be sailing, diving, and more swimming this time. Celceta had a bit of swimming in it, but looks like they'll take it to the next level.

OT: Well, seems like my decision to buy a ps4 when it got it's fair share of jrpg's came earlier than expected.
Definitely looking forward to this!
