Good-day my fellow Escapists. I am here to talk about a serious matter indeed. I shall speak, of course, about children's card games. Now, I play Yu-Gi-Oh! (or duel monster's) and I love it. I am a 16 year old male having played for about 3 years now. Many of my friends play as well, and we each run different archetypes in our decks to keep things fresh. From this you should be able to derive my personal opinion on those wonderful little cards, which leads me to my full question:
What are your opinions on 'Children's Card Games'. Ie, do you play them? Why or why not? What would bring you to play them?

For all who may be interested, I run a pure Gemini deck, stapleless.

Monsters:
3x Dark Valkyria
3X Evocator Chevalier
2x Gemini Summoner
2x Crusader of Endymion
2X Blazewing Butterfly
2x Gemini Soldier
2x Featherizer
1x Grasschopper
1x Tuned Magician
1X Gemini Scorpion
1x Knight of the Red Lotus
1x Goggle Golem
1x Energy Bravery

Spells:
3x Unleash Your Power
3x Supervise
2x Gemini Spark
1x Foolish Burial
1x Metalsilver Armor
1x Wicked-Breaking Flamberge-Baou
1x Future Fusion
1x Dark Factory of Mass Production
1x Double Summon

Traps:
2x Gemini Booster
1x Gemini Trap Hole
1x Gemini Counter

I used to play a few years ago. Got pretty good at it for a bit, but then I lost interest/couldn't afford it.

I got back into it for a few weeks every summer when I was in high school when I went to a state choir for 18 days, as it was a good way to pass time, but by that point I didn't really care that much about the ability of my deck. It was just for fun at that point, and nobody really had any newer cards.

Here's a good indicator of when I quit. My deck revolved around Jinzo. I have no idea what the hell a Gemini deck is.

I think it's cool, but all my friends kinda stopped playing it. Currently I've got a deck focused on buffing reptile monsters, good luck with your gemini thing though

Been playing Yu-Gi-Oh! since the first booster pack came out (the age 7 jumps to mind somehow), and I was one of the two people who noticed it coming out and started the fad for my school in particular.

I was bought one booster pack, and my first ever rare card was Dark Magician.
Next two packs' rare cards were Exodia's head and Polymerization. Clearly fate wanted me to play this game.

EDIT: Well, my decks always kinda suck. I have strong cards and can build a dekc of things I like, but making a theme is difficult because getting speciifc cards is hard, and I prefer the luck of the draw to online shopping. When the game first started I thought of Starter Decks as cheating since people would buy theme specifically to get multiples of powerful cards.

Don't have anyone to play with though so these days I seem to buy them (as my mum puts it) to "look at them".

I play Yu-Gi-Oh Online 3. It's pretty cool and free too. Never actually played the proper card game.

Ew. XD Dont owrry, I run a deck made of spellcasters, warriors, dragons, and a few plants and rocks. Its my medievil deck, and has been killing. My friends and I like to run theme decks, or atleast ones that we like, so I get what you're doing, and gotta say, good on you. Its nice to see someone have htat kinda focus.

OT: It depends on the costs and summons in a children's card game. TO me, over all, its alot like Minecraft in that if its your thing you'll like it, its grossly open ended, and theres not alot that tells you what you can and cant do outside of hte material you use yourself. Its also a good correlation of work (input) to Success/enjoyment (output). THe more you work, the better you'll play, the less you work, the worse you'll play and enjoy.

Specifically, I like Yugioh the best, and is the only one I play. I used to play duel masters, but the mana cost started to get on my nerves, and I had gotten in later in the game, so people had decsk that were blwoing my started deck out of the water in three turns. In the end, I just couldnt learn the ins and outs of the game on a level that was comfortable. Cant stand pokemon cause the idea that your deck is going to be over 50% energy cards just cause you burn them when you attack bothered me. And Magic: The Gathering.... Eh. I dont like the summoning costs, but they're not that bad. The game seems about as ridiculous as yugioh to me, but I guess what turns me off most is thesse Magic players at my college who take up three round tables that could fit three-five people depending on their size and take up all the chairs just so two of them could play magic, the others could eat when they;re sitting right outside a cafeteria with tables much more suited to what they're doing, and the others just sit around doing nothing but watching the kids playing magic, leaving all their stuff plugged into the only good accessible outlet in the room.

... yeah, I know thats petty, and not the games fault itself, but its a bad impression,a nd just something I cant get over.

I prefer MTG. I find yu gi oh to be a bit too over the top. "I DEAL YOU 2600 DAMAGE!!!1!"
But it's an okay game I suppose.

I love Yu-Gi-Oh! I run Zombies, Cyber Dragon's, Plant's, Elemental Heroes(love Elemental Heroes), a Kaiba and a Marik deck.

I hate that it, like video games is stereotyped as 'childish'.

:/ The rulings on this game can really screw with you at times.

Geez that's quite awhile. xD Gemini's are Effect monsters that have no effects. xD

I had a trap deck and defensive monsters, I'd make you kill yourself and most of the time I never actually attacked

My girlfriend brought me a starter-deck of Pokemon cards because we had a nostalgia-blast a month or so previous and thought of it. When she said "I have a surprise for you" I thought of sexy lingerie or something: when I found out it was Pokemon cards I was actually happier.

I played back when I was like 12. It was fun, but the fact that if you want to play in a tournament competitively, you have a choice of maybe three decks and spend $200 on them is ridiculous. I used a Sacred Phoenix deck. It played fast, and it was fun, and it was annoying. Totally slaughtered by a control deck though.

And I'm calling zombie bullshit on the "no staples" statement. There's just so many staples for certain deck types that you have to use at least a few.

and it was fun when I was a kid. It becomes less fun when you realise how seriously people take it. I mean take the Yugioh wiki for example. A comprehensive list of every single card ever created with full details on everything about it.

Quite a coincidence OP, one of my decks happen to be a gemini one as well.

Anyway, Yes I play Yugioh, and one of the shops in my town allow for people to play card-games, among other games (as it is a Video game shop)

Main main decks are Vehicroid, Cloudians, Morphtronics,

There are some decks I'm still improving/making which are:
Gemini (with the recent structure deck full of them, I'm having a hard time trying to figure out a good stragety to use with them.

Vanity/Koa'ki Meiru (It's meant to be anti-meta, but still needs a few cards)

Watt (Currently getting cards to it, and see how they play first before trying a form a good stragety first)

I currently have 7 decks, I think. Let's see...

1) Water deck
2) Spellcaster deck featuring Dark Paladin fusion
3) Black Dragon deck featuring 3 Red-Eyes, Red-Eyes Darkness Dragon, Horus the Black Flame Dragon (all levels) and multiple fusions including Black Skull Dragon, Dark Blade the Dragon Knight, King Dragun and Gatling Dragon. Pisses me off that they never made an American version of Meteor Black Dragon
4) White Dragon Deck featuring 3 Blue-Eyes, the X-Y-Z robots, Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon and a few other Kaiba staples
5) Original Elemental Hero deck
6) Dark World deck featuring Raviel the Lord of Phantasms

and, finally, my only non "cookie-cutter" deck...

7) Final Countdown Defense deck

I haven't played anyone recently, as no one in my area plays it much. But I'm somewhat of a collector so...eh, I keep 'em.
