Jason continued to stare at the paper, confused as hell and beginning to get a bit frustrated. These questions were ridiculous, but Jason filled them out.

Name: Jason Caston

Age: 16

Date of birth: January 3rd, 1995

Expected time of death: Whenever I feel like dying.

Have you seen any weird things lately? If so, elaborate: No, Nothing really.

Have you developed weird powers lately that you didn't have before? Please list said abilities here: My scar on my right arm has been feeling warm lately, but other than that, no.

Have you had any encounters with demons? What happened in said encounter(s)? Silly survey, demons don't exist!

Are you taking any kind of drugs or medications? Please list them here: I smoke ten pounds of Weed a day, you seem to know a lot about it since your Survey is so FUBAR.

Jason set his pen down and called out "Done!"

Ms. Tanya smiled and walked over to Jason and looked over his sheet. "Oh, well isn't that interesting. Jason, would you mind showing me that scar?" She asked politely.

"Uh, sure, i guess so." Jason didn't know what she was up to, but he obliged her request and rolled up his right sleeve to show his scar, a long scratch along the length of his forearm.

"Hmm...he was right, you all do have potential..." She mumbled to herself.

Jason, however, heard it clearly and was tired of playing around. "Alright, what the hell are you trying to pull huh? This survey is bullshit and you know it! So why make us fill it out!?"

"Oh alright, I've hid it from you all long enough." Ms. Tanya giggled

"Hid What?" Jason yelled.

"Calm down silly and i will tell you!" She laughed at Jason's frustration. She walked back to the front of the room and sat on the desk.

"Those of you who havent finished the form yet, don't bother. The only point of this exercise was to determine whether you had the potential inside you that we are looking for. If you were able to read the paper, that means that you have a great power lying within you." Ms. Tanya explained, scanning each student for their reactions and smirking at the dumbstruck looks on some of their faces.

"You may not know how to use your powers yet, but that will come in due....You don't believe me, do you?" Ms. Tanya saw the disbelief in their eyes and knew that they were about to up and leave altogether. "Well, There is one way I can prove that everything I say is true. Damien, Would you mind demonstrating your ability for us? You stated on your Sheet that you can form an energy ball. I believe that would provide proof enough for everyone here."

"What the fuck are you going on about?!" Jason was getting angry, he didn't like being taken for a fool. "Powers? What a bunch of crap." Jason turned around and looked to Damien. "Is she insane? Or do you actually have powers?" Jason asked.

Damien's jaw dropped. "Well. Shit. I tried to screw with the system but it looks like I've just been had! Funny- telling the truth to the cops in L.A. usually confuses them." Damien shook his head and sighed. He got up and found a ballistics gel dummy chest. Presumably it would have been used for science. Well, it was about to get a very real test in explosives. Damien looked at Ms. Tanya as she nodded approval. Damien set the chest up on a pole on the far side of the room as he began to speak. "And here I thought I was gonna fit in. Goodbye reality!" Damien said scornfully, as if he was angry with the heavens. And with his power, they best be fearin'.

"A week ago, I was nearly killed by a super-tiger. I used this to stop it. I can force it to delay detonation after impact, but it's too volatile to disperse after being formed." Damien motioned to all the students to get behind the heavy steel cabinets as he stood in a pitcher's stance. He breathed in deeply as his hands began to glow and crackle with energy. A crimson red ball of energy, the size of a baseball, appeared in Damien's hands as he exhaled. He took his rock-back and started the motion. His knee flew into the air as his back arched sideways, resembling nothing so much as a pendulum. Slowly his right arm separated from his left and began the slow arc towards the dummy, picking up speed. Suddenly, the large, slow movement launched the ball like a Roman Scorpion siege engine, causing the ball to rocket towards the dummy at 90 miles an hour, showing why he was nicknamed 'The Ballista.' Damien turned and took a step into the corner, behind the cabinets. The energy ball stopped in the middle of the dummy's torso and slowly stopped spinning. The energy ball stopped its mad twirl as the dummy disappeared. To be more accurate, the dummy was sprayed all over the room. The ballistic gel had muted the sounds, but it was clear there had been an explosion at some point between the dummy in existence, and the one living a second life as a new coat of paint for the walls. "Backwards spin keeps the energy compact. The faster I throw it, the more backspin I can put on the ball, effectively creating a timer. I can't force a break pitch, though." Damien explained as he pulled himself off the wall, impeccably clean. He rubbed the back of his head and separated himself from the rest of the group. "So, alienated yet?" Damien shook his head as he stuck his hands into his pockets.

Lina glanced back at the paper. Well... maybe it's not meant to be taken seriously...

With that in mind, she began writing down answers to the questions.

1. Name: Carolina O'Connell, but just call me Lina

2. Age: 16

3. Date of birth: September 25, 1995

4. Expected time of death: (This one was left blank, Lina didn't believe in worrying about the future.)

5. Have you seen any weird things lately? If so, elaborate: No, not really.

6. Have you developed weird powers lately that you didn't have before? Please list said abilities here: None that I know of.

7. Have you had any encounters with demons? What happened in said encounter(s)?: If playing video games counts, than yes.

8. Are you taking any kind of drugs or medications? Please list them here: None

"I'm done," she said at last, glad to be done with it. Then she sat back, listening the teacher's explaination about the paper. Apparently it involved telling whether or not they had developed super powers or something.

Lina would have scoffed at this, but when one of her new classmates formed a ball of energy in his hands, her jaw practially dropped open.

That... did not just happen...

Sorry for being so behind in the story, I'll try to catch up.

Sonny watched in shocked fascination as the cocksure boy calmly delivered his explanation whilst making fireballs with his hands. His eyes widened as he threw the ball, and a million questions ran through his head - what? How? Who? Fuck? - until the ball connected with the dummy, and it exploded, and the viscous stuff inside it sprayed everywhere, and OH GOD WAS THERE GEL IN SONNY'S HAIR?

His brain purged of all other thoughts, Sonny's eyes widened to their fullest and he screamed inside his head. Gel. Hair. Should've ducked. Gel in hair. Hair-gel. Hah!

Now Sonny was grinning hysterically, and when he realized he covered his mouth with his hands so nobody would notice. Hair-gel! That was hilarious! Hahahahahah!

He was going to kill this "Damien" boy. Soon. And painfully.

Van didn't fully understand what Ms. Tanya was talking about. Having some potential, being the only ones who can read the paper, strange powers. There was no sense in what she was talking about, until he saw Damien throw an energy ball and explode the dummy in the corner.

The fact that he was now covered in ballistics gel was of little concern to Van. What was more important was that his new classmate just pulled off a... "A hadoken?" Not really, but his mind rushed to figure out what had just happened, so it pulled out the first video game that came to mind.

There had to have been some mistake, he shouldn't be in this class. Van didn't have any super powers like this guy, hell he was barely what you would call in shape. Calm down. Breath He took a slow breath and regained his composure. A smile soon cracked on his face, "Hey man, you gotta teach me how to do that."

Jason was dumbstruck and stunned like many of the others. "Wha-wha-What the Hell was that!?" Jason stammered out. He couldn't believe it, this teacher was actually telling the truth. He moved his hand and touched a piece of the gel that was plastered over his shirt. It was definitely real. He picked it off and pulled the rest out of his hair.

And she said that we all had an ability like this!? Oh man, this was going to be a very interesting semester.

Angelo wiped some gel off of his hand and looked at both the teacher and this student through wild eyes and gritted teeth. What the heck is this? I thought I was going to a highschool, not Hogwarts! Angelo clenched his fists at this new logic he was having to deal with. People with powers? This isn't right, Human's can't have powers. Why did she say we passed the test from being able to read the sheet? Special ink? What the hell?

"I think we deserve a bigger explanation Ms Tanya." Angelo said angrily, wiping more gel off his person.

Alex had gotten down when told to but he had not really expected much. He was absolutely stunned though by what he saw, taking an extra second or two before he emerged from behind his cover.

He began talking as he emerged. "Well the explanation's pretty obvious to me." He said picking up Angelo's train of thought. "It's some kind of trick, right?" Though his voice was uncertain and shaky. "Right? Smoke and mirrors and a bit of explosives, right?" He was sounding almost a little desperate near the end.

"Of course i'm going to explain everything Angelo, I love to surprise people but i'm not cruel." Ms. Tanya assured the angry boy. She resumed her place on the desk at the front of the classroom.

"Ahem, the whole point behind the survey was to determine whether you had the potential in you to do what we require. In order for someone to read the writing on these sheets, they must possess something called 'Spiritual Awareness," it allows you to see and touch things related to the supernatural. In this case, since all of you were able to read and fill out the sheet, not to mention see Damien blow that dummy to smithereens, you all possess some degree of Spiritual Awareness. You may not know it yet, but this test has not proven wrong yet. Were a normal person with no spiritual awareness to look at the paper, they would see a blank sheet, and would probably use it as copying paper." Ms.Tanya explained as she glanced down at her watch to check the time.

"Oh my! Look at the time, we only have ten minutes left before the bell rings at 9:00!!! Oh well, i guess now is a good a time as any. I have something to give all of you before you all go on to whatever your next planned class is. " Ms. Tanya spoke in a hurried tone.

She turned around and reached into her purse on the desk and pulled out seven rubber bracelets with the word "SPIRIT" embedded in it. "Each of you except for Damien take one of these bracelets and put it on." She instructed.

"This bracelet may not look like much but it is very important. Normally, in order for a person's Spirit Awareness to awaken, it requires that the person be put in a Life or Death Scenario. Take Damien's story for an example. His power awakened because his life was in danger. That instinct to survive is usually the prime trigger for people's powers to awaken. However, with these bracelets, much less is needed to coax out your powers. If one wears this bracelet, they only need to wear it and their powers will awaken sometime during that same day." Ms. Tanya explained.

*DING DONG DANG DONG*

"Oh crap that's the bell, don't forget that we meet at 2:45 before school lets out at 3:00! Please grab a bracelet and run along to your next class, whatever it may be. If you have any other questions, please hold them until we reconvene at 2:45."

For the next 48 hours (our time) you have full control over what your character does, whether it be going to class, eating lunch, or maybe your powers awaken due to the bracelet. But once 48 hours has passed, i will advance the plot once more. remember, you are just high school students, normal high school rules apply. No drugs, no fights with other students unless it is self defense, etc. Most important of all. Have Fun With It

Damien grinned at Van. "Sure. Shout 'kamehame-ha!' at the top of your lungs while throwing your hands in front of you. If that doesn't work, get attacked by a tiger demon and try to blow its head off before it rips your throat out. Please don't die." Damien then looked at all the other students. "For the record, ballistics gel is supposed to simulate human flesh, so its 80% water. Just run some water over the gel and it'll just dissolve and wash out, though you should be able to pick most of it out of your clothes and whatnot." Damien opened his schedule. "So, who here has physics next period?"

Van started laughing as he heard Damien's explanation, "Yea right." He wasn't really about to fall for some silly trick like that. Leaving the classroom, he grabbed one of the 'spirit' bracelets and put it on. He didn't feel any different as he wore it. Well it wasn't like it was suppose to work immediately, he would just have to wait. "English... what a waste of time. I already speak English good enough, so I don't need to be taught it more." He was really just talking to himself, but even his words weren't enough to stop him from going.

Sonny shuffled out of the class ahead of anyone else (snatching a "spirit bracelet" off the front desk on the way out) and made his way down a hallway, covering his head with a book so no-one would see the gunk in his hair. He kicked open the door of the first toilet he saw (it was a boys', though usually he didn't discriminate) and stuck his head in a sink before turning both taps on full-blast. SO DIRTY...

Sonny ran his fingers through his hair, again and again, for almost 10 minutes. Then he remembered he probably had places he needed to be and dug a hand into his bag for his timetable. Only now did it occur to him that some questions may arise in the minds of the teenage boys at this school as to why there was a wet-haired blonde transvestite in the bathroom, so he relocated to the more secure habitat of one of the cubicles.

Crouching with both feet on the seat of the toilet - there was no way he was touching that with the bottom of his skirt; no way, no how - Sonny fished out his planner. Apparently he had english first period; that should be fun...

Stepping out of the cubicle and brushing the creases out of his skirt, Sonny headed for the door and walked straight into three stocky young men in football uniforms, each with an unlit cigarette hanging out of their mouth. "Oh, balls."
"Well well well, what have we here?" the leader of the trio asked, leaning in close to Sonny. "A girl in the boys' bathroom? Or a girly boy in girls' clothing?"

"Excuse me, please," Sonny mumbled, looking down at his feet and attempting to shuffle past the lads. The one to the leader's left stepped forward and bumped Sonny back into the room with his chest. "Not so fast, homo."

All three boys took a few steps forward, and Sonny took a few steps back. The leader turned to his lackies and grinned. "I guess if it won't tell us, there's only one way we're gonna find out, huh, guys? Hold its arms." The two burly young men strode over and grabbed Sonny from either side. Sonny squirmed, but the boys were holding him tightly and there didn't seem to be any chance of him escaping. The leader smirked and took his hands out of his pockets. "Alright, let's find out what the queer little lesbo has down there."

Sonny sighed. Here we go again. New school year, and he'd been kind of hoping this one'd go differently, but no; one day in, and already he was set for marking as "the school queer". On the bright side he wasn't a girl, so the lads probably weren't gonna do anything awful to him when they found out "what he had down there" wasn't anything they'd typically be interested in doing awful things to, but they were going to beat him up for being a boy in a skirt, and that was never much fun.

"So, who here has physics next period?" Jason heard Damien ask.

"Um, I believe I do." Jason replied as he dug his list out of his backpack. Sure enough, his first block class was physics. "Yup, got physics."

"I don't think the teacher would like it if we were late, We should get going." Jason told Damien as he picked up and put on one of the bracelets.

Alex absentmindedly picked up one of the SPIRIT bracelets as he left the classroom. It wasn't often that Alex got really lost in his thoughts but now that he was it was a real test to find his way out again.

Is this spirit thing really real? It can't be, right? That kind of stuff is for T.V. and movies. The thing that Damien did was some kind of trick. Staged or something to show that science is cool. But there's no way that the school would allow an explosion like that... right? What exactly was going on? And even if all that was true, then what was Alex doing there? The others looked like people who might have super powers; an emo, a martial artist, an outcast, a Californian, the others all seemed a bit odd in there own way too; not that there was anything wrong with any of those. So what was Alex doing there, he had always seemed perfectly normal.

Alex was suddenly shocked from his inner monologue with a realization that he was all alone, everyone else had evidently gone to class a while ago. Alex rushed off to his class but slowed after a bit. He was already late, and there was something he needed to take care off.

Alex slowed more as he reached one of the bathrooms and steeped right in. However, as he entered he heard voices from inside.

"I guess if it won't tell us, there's only one way we're gonna find out, huh, guys? Hold its arms."

"Alright, let's find out what the queer little lesbo has down there."

Alex easily recognized the nasty tone in the voices that marked trouble for the subject. Alex had taken great pains to weed out any such bullying tendencies in the hokey and boxing teams, but some people never did learn. Alex stomped loudly into the room making his presence well known. "Hey there. You know, I bet the principal would really like to know what all of you are doing out of class on the first day back." He declared loudly.

While Alex hopped the threat would be enough to get them to back off his fists were curled and ready for anything. Alex was known to not fight often, but when he did it usually didn't go well for the other guy.

Sonny looked up at the sound of a new voice, but sighed and dropped his head again when he heard what they were saying. Was this weed threatening to... tell a teacher? As anyone could tell at a glance, Sonny wasn't particularly well versed in the ways of "being a man", but even he knew that "tattling" on bullies was something of a faux pas for guys over the age of 12.

Fortunately, the presence of someone new had served to distract the football-players from what they were doing for a second, and Sonny took that second as an opportunity to wriggle free. Whipping his head to the side, he slapped the shortest jock in the face with his wet hair, then took advantage of his surprise to yank his arm free of his grip. Sonny pivoted and kicked the other in the shin, then pulled himself free and ducked under the leader's arms to come to stand next to the newcomer. Dweeb he may be, he seemed to be an ally, and any sort of ally was better than confronting the three assholes on his own.

Sonny glanced to the side briefly and noticed that his saviour was one of the boys from his class. Then he turned his head back to the three other boys. "Ideally, we could run... they'd probably chase us, though, and if they're on the football team they'd probably catch us. Also, if we flee they'll probably label us as "pansies" and make frequent targets of us. Fighting won't be ideal either, though..." Sonny smiled faintly. "You were in Ms. Thingy's class, right? Those "spiritual powers" she talked about would be kind of helpful right about now..." Dammit, shouldn't have spent so long talking. The tough lads had moved closer to them now, making running even less of an option.

Sonny absent-mindedly thumbed the bracelet - he'd been holding it in his fist since the end of homeroom, but had forgotten about it until now - and, for want of anything better to do, slipped it onto his wrist. Honestly, he didn't expect it to help, but Sonny really, really hated getting beaten up, and anything now was worth a try.

Van soon grew bored with listening to the teacher rattle on about words, or whatever it was she was teaching. Raising his hand, he asked to be excused to go to the bathroom. His bladder wasn't anywhere near full, but it was a good way to kill some time.

Finding his way through the halls, van soon came to one of the boys bathrooms. This would be a great place for him to hide and play his games for a while. Opening the door, he saw a mass of people, two he remembered from homeroom. "So is this a party or something?" completely unaware of the events that happened before, Van was barely able to figure out what was going on, but he still tried to act nonchalant about it.

Damien nodded to Jason as he picked up his books and headed towards the physics lab. Damien stopped for a minute outside the men's bathroom, thinking he heard a familiar voice. Damien dropped his books and picked up his baseball. He motioned to Jason as he walked on in and saw the standoff. Damien raised an eyebrow. "Is there a problem, guys?" He asked the football jockeys, while making sure they would be able to see him switch to a 4-seam fastball grip. Damien knew hecould weave that ball in between Sonny and Alex, and when an object going nearly 100 mph hits someone in the head, it doesn't matter what the object is. Still, it was a bluff- if it did come down to fighting, Damien only had one baseball. Even if Alex took out a second guy, there were three of them. Damien hoped they were too stupid to notice. He didn't even consider using that.

Sonny glanced behind him and noticed that there were two more people here. Well, that was an unusual coincidence. One saviour would usually be too much to ask for, but three? This was unnatural. Maybe fate had brought these players together. Or maybe it was just a nice opportunity for Sonny to avoid getting the shit kicked out of him.

Subtly stepping backwards, Sonny repositioned himself behind Alex; from there, he glided to the space behind Van, then to the space behind Damien, and finally took a shuffly step towards the door. Before he left, though, something stopped him. These boys had all risen to his aid in one way or another; would it really be right to leave them to their fates after that? Granted, if it came to a fight it probably wouldn't make much difference whether Sonny were there or not, but... abandoning all these dashing knights to fend off the dragon after saving their distressed damsel really just wouldn't be right.

Sonny turned around and faced the ruffians. He was still at the back of the group, but he was there nontheless, and as much as he hated getting beaten up he'd stay as long as he needed to and provide any support he could to his classmates.
