I really do think Nintendo need to come up with something new instead of retreading old ground. Now one of the greatest games ever made, Ocarina of time is being remade for the 3DS. I must admint that initally i was very excited, "ZOMG PLAY OoT WHILE ON A TRAIN! BWAAH!". but now that ive had enough time to change my trousers im not so sure. Im worried that the game wont have enough new stuff in it to justify its existance, and the improved graphics may remove the feel of the orignal ala Twin Snakes :/, is it just going to be an upgrade? or is it gunna feature extra content and fix things that were broken (like a true remake shd be) liek the water temple. But are my fears justified or a lil too pesimistic?

Well, basing on super mario 64 Ds, it'll probably be near identical with a small percentage of extra levels to freshen it up.

I'm on the fence about it; I've finished ocarina over 10 times already, so it doesn't exactly feel fresh any more.

Pros:
Portable.
Its Ocarina of Time.
3D.
Updated Graphics.

Cons:
Unknown price tag
Unknown amount of bonus content.

This AND Legends 3 makes the 3DS a Day one purchase for me i thinks.

They have released OoT 3 times already, this will be the 4th. I can't believe that people are excited about it.

I would say No to extra content (unless we are talking about a bestiary or something worthless) and No to bug fixes since they haven't done that with the last two re-releases.

PS: Honestly when I think about Nintendo releasing ports of old games as launch titles, it makes me think that they know their hand is weak with the 3DS.
Its not a port it's a remake Nintendo has confirmed that much.

That could mean we could see new dungeons that didn't make it when ocarina made the jump from the 64DD to a Nintendo 64 cartridge. We all know that the ice cavern was going to be a fully blown dungeon as well as the fabled light temple and wind temple that never got in the game due to cartridge restrictions.

I wouldn't hold you breath though. It could just mean the new graphics and a few extra features, but I remain optimistic.

EDIT: What I do seriously hope is that the game is like Ocarina of Time Version 1.0 (with bug fixes from other versions) which has the red blood and the Islamic Fire Temple chanting music.

Why do they only remake OoT? I wish they would remake Majora's Mask. Does anyone know if a Zelda: Majora's Mask remake is in the works?

Will it be good? I don't know.
Will it be expensive? yes
Will I buy it anyway because it's a handheld OoT? Absolutely

I don't mind. I never really played Super Mario 64 until the DS version and I still don't think I've finished OoT all the way through. This could be the incentive I'd need to give it another go. Not too sure though. I'd probably rather try out some new titles first. I'm just hoping to hear something about an Advance Wars 3DS. That would be awesome.

WATER TEMPLE IS FIXED BETTER NOW

Yeah, remember the Water Temple? Remember wandering around for quite a while? Remember having to take the boots off and on and off and on again? They're fixing that.

Bearing all this in mind. I am excited for it and can't wait until the 3DS gets here. I also can't wait til I find out it's like £200 or something. If it's £250 (or more) then I'll probably turn into Insanity Wolf.

Calumon: Hey! LISTEN! I'm hungry. :3

So what exactly was broken in the Water Temple? The Iron Boots thing is not a bug or glitch.

Fixed? I remember it being quite difficult to solve the first time around, but it was never really broken. That sucks if they're dumbing it down.
They are making it so that it won't be so long and annoying. (Remember The raising and dropping of water levels, having to continuously put on and take off the iron boots in a very long way involving the menu, and just how much of a pain it was to do both of those things. That and how long it was) It was never broken but was annoying and impossible to like. In my opinion, it is the perfect example of why OoC is not the greatest game ever made.

Calumon: *Pulls mini Umbrella* I don't like where this is going.

Hmmm... I see your point, while I don't think it's got much to do with the hardware, and it is ACTUALLY improving something that really NEEDED improvement, and while I would call that a fix, I can see how it's not. Anyway, Cahnged what I said, and the next 3 quotes that say it like 6 times are going to say otherwise.

Calumon: *Puts umbrella down* Is it okay now? I don't feel that safe?

This is my problem with Nintendo; apart from Megaman Legends 3 and the MGS3 remake (which will be new to me because I haven't actually beaten any MGS game to date) I have no reason to buy a 3DS.

Ocarina of Time? I have the Master Quest for the Gamecube. Why the fuck should I spend money on this game yet again? Many other people STILL have it for the N64. Fuck, even Wiiware has it for cheap, so you can't even claim that nobody has had legitimate access to it on a new/current-gen console.

I seriously doubt a game whose appeal came largely from the amazing atmosphere is going to play any better on a bus or in an airport terminal, 3D or not.

I have no problem with using old franchises in new ways (despite all the hate, I really enjoyed Phantom Hourglass because what it did with the controls and corresponding design space.) but this constant rehashing of the same exact old content is really starting to piss me off.

With Sony is refusing to put any fucking effort into fixing the PSP's control scheme and current generation consoles (PS3/360) deliberately stifling their game's design space to make an endless parade of God of War Devil May Cry clones/Generic Bling-Shooters, the 3DS might be the last place where its hardware limitations fall into that magic category that made the PS2/Gamecube/Xbox era so damn good and varied.
You have processing power, but not enough to release a game that sells solely because of how much bloom lighting and hi-res texturing. You still have to put some thought and effort into the game beyond "What guns are we going to give the players this time?"

Then again, the 3DS could just as easily fall prey to shallow gimmick-marketing like the Wii did.

if they just did it with the boots so they're an item like in Twilight Princess you can equip/unequip with the press of a button rather than having to go to the equipment screen each time it will be a vast improvement.

doubt i'll be getting it though. i have the GC remake (both the one that was with the Wind Waker so includes the Master Quest and the one with LoZ, LoZ 2 and MM) plus probably won't be getting a 3DS. not going to write it off completely, though. would still be good to play it on the train or whatever
