I normally agree with the reviews, but this one I disagree. I'm critical of games, quite strongly so. I hate MW2 for it's crappy multiplayer (Kill streak rewards turning the game into a campfest, poor game hosting that doesn't use dedicated servers, etc), many other big name games I'm not a fan of because they're not as good as sheep say they are. But Bioshock 2 was fun and I liked it. The concept wasn't as fresh since it's a sequel but a follow up to Bioshock was going to be hard to top. It would be nice to anticipate sequels to be great like Half Life 2 was when compared to the original Half Life - but let's remember Half Life 2 was in development for six years. Bioshock 2 came out just under three years after the original Bioshock. You can't reasonably expect quality to come out in quick order.
They managed to show another side of the story not seen in Bioshock that fills the player in more. I mean consider you could play Bioshock now with increased knowledge of what's going on and how it happened that you did not know before Bioshock 2. Being a sequel I don't think Bioshock 2 will be as memorable to me as the first, but I had a lot of fun playing it and think it's a great entry in the series. Please note the only criticism made against BS2 in this review is primarily plot related and concept related. Both of these I think are way more of an independent view, some people will be bothered by them others not. The only games that are bad are ones where the controls are bad or gameplay lacks fun value due to bad design. Nothing about BS2 is bad, other than Yahtzee apparently doesn't like Big Daddies or Little Sisters.
Maybe you could say BS2 is for the fanboys or whatever - I liked it and I'm not a fanboy but I thought BS was a great game. I look forward to the next entry in the series.
