Hm, kind of strange to review (or 'review') MW2 and not play the online multiplayer mode... sure, MW2 has an impressive campaign mode, but that's not the reason most people buy the game, and that's not the reason most people will still play it two months from now...

He's right of course about people online generally being fucktards, but that affects all online games and unfortunately there's not much to be done about it...

I found the shock factor to quite make up for the short single player. And damn, how much of that review did other non-native speakers understand? I watched some parts of it three times and still haven't perceived everything Yahtzee said..

Which was a bit like the American president holding his acceptance speech in Russian. Not Right.

I think the ZP this week is the most honest review of this game so far.

I can understand why he wouldent play the multiplayer regardless as to how much of the game it takes up. And I guess the tragicness of the deaths werent even that shocking beond the last one with roach and ghost but that was only because betrayal was involved as well.

yahtzee's review is pointless to me because hes only interested in the SP and i'm only interested in the MP. got a couple of laughs at least but mostly ZP jokes were only funny for the first 50 or so episodes.

Hahahaha! Classic Yahtzee. What a fantastic review. I noticed how he was speaking so much faster in this one.

There were parts of the story I liked, and some missions were really cool. But the majority of it was ridiculous. Whoever I was playing as seemed to be constantly near death during a weird shaky cutscene. And the narrative was stupid too. Why the hell would *SPOILER ALERT* the *** betray the B***s when there's an evil Russian terroist to catch...

Thank you for pointing out that the civialian massacre thing has already been done in most sandbox games.

Huh.

Reviewing Call of Duty without the multiplayer is like reviewing a Big Mac without mentioning what the meat tastes like.
That may be the dumbest thing I've read today.

Call of Duty has ALWAYS been story first, multiplayer second. The problem is that the HALO fantards discovered that COD4's multiplayer was pretty good, and suddenly it's the latter first.
That was rather rude, but anyway... no accounting for manners...

The main focus for most people who bought MW2 was multiplayer.

Infinity Ward themselves even said in interviews that they were surprised how many people never even played the campaign in the first game, despite logging weeks worth of playtime into the multi.

http://www.theconsolebattle.com/2009/04/30-of-cod4-players-ignored-single.html

Now who's dumb?

Call of Duty used to be single player first, multiplayer second, but that is no longer the case.

Also, you may not like Halo but that doesn't mean people who do are 'tards'.

Your entire tone is rather annoying, actually.

Agreed, I myself have never finished the single player of COD4, and I dont plan on playing the single player of MW2.

I have been a fan of COD since the first game, and never finished the story. I don't buy war FPS's for single player, it has always been about the multiplayer aspect of the game. When COD4 came out, I was amazed at the online leveling system and was hooked. I played an absolute ton of that game.

When I heard MW2 was going to come out, I was skeptical of how different it could actually be, I had not planned on purchasing the game, at least not right away. I watched a video review the day the game came out, saw how the game had changed, and decided to give it a shot.

If you played a lot of COD4's multiplayer and then played MW2, then you would know that there are a lot of changes, improvements, and balances that make it feel vastly different while maintaining the same basic experience.

This is what I wanted out of MW2, I am completely satisfied in playing it, and I will never play the single player.

I loved the single player, it's well worth a try anyway.

There's no denying though that it's the multi that has kept the game alive, and gotten people so obsessed with it.

I got real caught up in K:D and all that stuff for a while but have recently gone back to playing single player games more, so as to avoid giving myself a nervous breakdown from rage lol.

Yahtzee, did the lack of lean controls not bother you at all? That's the very thing that forces you to stand out in the open like a suicidal totem pole and get your screen splattered red every nanosecond. It's only the very core of Call of Duty's gameplay, ever since the original, except for the games Treyarch made, since they've always thought that leaning from cover is for pussies anyway. It's like CoD4 proved to be an unstoppable heavy weight boxing champ so Infinity Ward thought "well in that case he won't mind having an arm chopped off, he'll still be just as good".

Congrats Infinity Ward, you've proven yourselves even bigger dickheads than Treyarch.

I think that Yahtzee does most of his FPS reviews using the console version, so the lack of lean controls wouldn't really be an outstanding issue. Though you are right, Infinity Ward and Activision seem to be intent on trolling the CoD Fanbase as much as possible.

Best Thanksgiving present I could have hoped for! About time SOMEBODY tore this game a proper asshole. So sick of the overhyped BS for a game that, when all is said and done, is pretty mediocre and is just capitalizing off of remaining good vibes from a previous release and a massive $$$ marketing machine. Thankyou Yahtzee.

True but a friend of mine has the ps3 version of CoD4 and according to him, you can use the sixaxis to lean in that one. That must mean Yahtzee went for the cheaper 360 version as usual and that never had it anyway.

Protagonist deaths didn't affect me at all, if they want us to care about our player characters, they need to give them at least an ounce of personality.

Yahtzee needs to try multiplayer.

strange...i found his review this week kinda...tame. I'm trying to become a critic who uses my sarcasm and wit and charm to give reviews of things but this week it feels as yatzee was not as into it as he usually is. his hate filled intellectual rant had no enthusiasm like it usually does.

Good review. While I enjoy MW2, it's clearly over-rated, with it's glaring flaws overlooked by the majority of reviewers.
Did anyone else find the levels that took place on US soil to be long, arduous, repetitive? At the same time, I constantly felt like all the good and enjoyable levels of the campaign were far too short. Not "that was so good I wish it was longer", but "that was really good, but why the hell did it end so damn soon?!", only to be followed by another monotonous US level, grinding through enemy AI. Or is that, enemy AI grinding through your will to live?
I take it you'll be reviewing assassins creed 2 soon, Yahtzee? I'll be looking forward to the watching it.
