I mean

you could have gone with Donkey Kong Country Returns instead
Really? He´s complaining about lack of variety and your ideia is telling in to play Another Donkey Kong? Are you from space or something?

Why the hell is he ragging on Myst? That game was awesome (though the subway puzzle in the Selenic age was hair-pullingly frustrating if you didn't know what you were doing).
Scew Myst. Did you hear that shit he said about Shatner? The hell?

I remember when I played through SotN I found a shield and weapon combination that would make everyone who touched you take 1k damage. It felt like a cheat.

All of the command input weapons were insane... Marsil, Sword of Dawn, the named Katanas, two heaven swords...

And the Shield Rod/Mablung combos.

Frankly, the only actually challenge in the game is reaching 100%+ completion (finding all the items and exploring the 240% or something of the castle with the glitch, etc).

This one really came from left field, but a good and funny review. I just wish Yahtzee had played this and more Castlevania games before completely panning Lords of Shadow...

well that was nice to see. Always wanted to play Symphony, options are to fork out for the PS1 game or a console to download the SOB from, either way my wallet will be chewed up and spat out.
Or you can get an Xbox and buy it,or get a PS3 and buy it as a PS1 Classic,or get a revoiced version where you need to fight Maria on PSP with Castlevania:The Dracula X Chronicles...

Grandma's legs - ROFLMAO!!!

I've never played the game, and thought the episode was pretty weak, but the final comment made up for it and then some.

I loled at the reference to the oedipus complex at the end. To quote a friend "Little Hans was revealed as a dirty bugger." But I don't see why the game would make you want to kill your dad... Oh wait I remember the remark about your mother being drunk.

Wouldn't it be possible to hook up a wireless controller to a PC, run the signals from it through the internet, to a second device out of the country, to someone's console to play mortal kombat?

Like a player match online, but insdetad of having 2 people play with eachother via internet, just have 1 person (you) play on another's?

Yeah, when I said "a console to download it from" I was refering to the Xbox and PS3. I heard about the PSP version too, sounds crazy that they can squeeze the full game onto a PSP disc along with another game. Technology today...

As long as your on a side scroller kick, if you want a good modern one to review you should check out the game Tesla: The Weather Man by Thoughtquake Studios (no, I don't work for the company). I loved it, it's getting great reviews, but could it hold up to your brand of scrutiny?

Everyone and their dog has done retro reviews, and Yahtzee isn't a retro reviewer. He's said in the past that he's a critic, not a reviewer. All in all, it looks like mind soap for all the awful games he's had the displeasure of playing lately.

For this critique, yes, it was quite good. I laughed at a few parts of it. It's been a cornerstone of Castlevania to jump back two meters every time anything hits you. It's part of what the (S)NES titles so challenging.

Yahtzee: Don't do what anyone tells you! Just keep doing what you're doing, because I've enjoyed everything so far.

I really liked Castlevania SoTN but I really hate that all Castlevania games are following it as the model rather than improving upon the classic Castlevania games

Non-linear gameplay still needs strings of linearity in order to keep the player on track or to avoid boredom. I think everyone can agree that the Inverted Castle was comparatively sloppy and aimless compared to the first half, without anything to give the player drive to move on beyond reaching the end.

Whereas Linear gameplay allows the player to assess a situation with multiple endeavors. Super Castlevania was a prime example of this, it had gameplay fairly fine-tuned in order to keep the game challenging because of level design rather than vague character & enemy strength.

Egoraptor explains this utilizing castlevania 1 & 2, which were linear & non-linear respectively
