Thanks for ripping this piece of shit a new one
I'm not usually petty about things like this but when I am I get extremely petty.
Last gen Dead Rising 1, Case Zero, 2 Case West and Off the Record amounted to my favorite series. Mostly because Mass Effect 3 and Assassin's Creed 3 ended up shitting themselves half to death and expected me to clean up the mess.
Now I'm at least glad that Dead Rising managed to escape the generation barrier unscathed. But seriously how do they take a series that up to now could be described by the words "fun, vibrant and challenging" and decide that "monotonous, bland and piss easy" was a good direction for the series?
It's not as bland or easy as you think. The story mode is easier, yes. But if you long for the more challenging Dead Rising style of play, it has that too in a special mode called NIGHTMARE (open from the beginning). And while the location itself is less colorful, it feels natural to the world of Dead Rising. Remember, this isn't a closed in area like a mall or casino where an outbreak just occurred, it's a huge section of a city where the outbreak has been ongoing for a few days. So it's natural that it would be a bit less colorful and run down. And dressing Nick in silly outfits is as fun now as it was in 2006 when Frank got the same treatment.
Plus there are plenty of store and shop interiors that have clever designs and more of the classic color and feel. This is a Dead Rising game through and through.
I get the complaint about the combo weapons. In theory. But in practice, the locker system just means that it's easier to stock up if you're there. You still have to find the pieces, you're still hardly ever near a locker when your mini-chainsaw whirling dervish breaks amidst the horde and you need to improvise something fast.
Dead Rising is my favorite game franchise. I've played each of them multiple times. And 3 is a worthy addition to the lineage offering plenty to do for new fans or old. After completing it for the second time I immediately started over and am still playing it almost daily (when I'm not having a Forza binge).
