I'm a little worried about the whole "No Pausing" thing.. I understand not allowing pausing when menu navigating to keep the difficulty up, but odds are I'm going to be interrupted at least a few times by other, more pressing matters while playing this. Are there ANY parts in this game where you can take a breather or something, or do I just have to hope that I'm never interrupted anywhere outside the beginning of a level?
The main HUB is a place called the Nexus and you will return here after questing. There are no enemies here (unless you make some :p). You can break there. If your midway through a quest though fear not, the enemies do not respawn untill you die so you can always backpedal a little as the enemies have surprisingly short sight. Also the "checkpoints" that Yahtzee talked about, enemies can't go near them (apart from a select few including Black Phantoms) so you can always go back there if your truly worried about bieng attacked.

Bravo, Yahtzee. Someone needed to take this game down a peg. Everyone I know has been recommending it like it came with free fellatio, but it doesn't. And while it is exactly as difficult as people describe, it is for stupid reasons.

What a horrible game.

I'd rather slit my wrists than play it, although the experience would be pretty much the same.

This game really isn't as hard as he makes it seem. Also, dodge does work I don't know what yahtzee's malfunction was. It is at the very least worth a rental. Bad review but it did make me laugh because it was very frustrating at the beginning. Probably already mentioned but on the first level, not the level where you end up facing a boss you cant beat, there are 2 rings you should get. 1 makes your soul form health 75% of max instead of 50% and the other ups your carry weight. Have fun.

Awesome! I was hoping he'd review this sometime before the year's up.

I don't think I had nearly enough trouble as Yahtzee did though. I honestly didn't think it was really all that hard.

This wasn't a very good review. You forgot to mention very important aspects of the game:

1. You can view other people's deaths
2. You can play coop with up to two friends
3. You can invade another person's world to hunt and kill them

I'm sure you could have made funny remarks on these things. It's a shame you gave up on this game without first trying all three of these features.
Yeah but from his "Review" he never noticed or went back to the Nexus after defeating Phalanx so you can't invade yet or possibly get help from others (Not sure if you need your own Blue Stone to beable to get help or not.) but Yahtzee's mentioned his online connection isn't that grat so maybe he didn't notice if he was Online* in D.S. while in online mode no chance to get help or View thier deaths... well he could see deaths in the 1st region.

* Sometimes when in online mode you'll lose server connection or something and notes/phatoms won't beable to appear or be able to be written.
If he was able to see the white ghosts I don't see why he would not be able to actively play with other players. I can see how he could have missed the stones that allowed him to interact with other players, but the game play on the tendency of RPG players to interact with NPCs, assuming that every player will eventually speak to the girl again (especially since it is through her that you level up).

too hard for most people to me generally means they dont understand the way the game works. this game however is just an asshole and has no means of getting better.

It sounds like a masocore game. Trial and error gameplay is irritating and doesn't mean skill.

The game really isn't any harder than the old Mario games. If you don't want a challenge, don't play this game, go play something that's slightly harder than easy, which is what Yahtzee seems to want.

Besides, chances are he picked a tough class. Royalty is easy mode.

Why do I look at the comments for these? All they manage to do is piss me off. Every week there are aa bunch of stupid sycophants going "great job yahtzee! This game is terrible!" His job is too say bad things about games. If you're not taking his reviews with a grain of salt YOU ARE A MORON! Seriously, here he complained that a game that is known for being hard is hard, and it's clear he didn't even try to get good at it. The dodge button is useless? No it's not. That's simply wrong...you just have to actually use it well rather than mindlessly pressing it. It's also clear that Yahtzee didn't level up or even leave the first level. This is a great game but it takes time and effort. The game is actually very reasonably challenged and almost never actually unfair. It just starts out hard and gives you some strict rules and doesn't hold your hand. Almost every time I died in this game, it was a result of me being unskilled, rather than the game being unreasonable.
To reiterate, if anyone makes a decision of whether or not to buy this or any other game based on one of Yahtzee's "reviews" they are a moron.

Yep it's hard and I LIKE IT. You have to learn your battle patterns and each enemy's weakness. Each death is a learning experience. Best game this gen imo instead of all that overrated crap that Infinity Ward keep churning out.

Sorry Yahtzee but you can't nitpick on a game that was designed to be difficult and unforgiving for being too difficult and unforgiving. Play further than the first dungeon and then create a new game. You'll wonder what you thought was so hard about those parts.

Oh yeah and dodging varies depending on your class, and is a roll to the side, NOT a step backwards. Man I can't believe people are putting what you say as fact when it's clearly riddled with uninformed crap and you didn't even complete fifty percent of the game. I know it's for comedy and it's your job to nitpick on stupid shit but man, people should stop taking it seriously.

And no save points? The game saves every time you gain experience, and after you get an item. Have you ever played Diablo, or any loot grabbing dungeon crawler? That's what happens there too. If you abort mid-mission, you have to start over, but keep everything you earned so far. And there are save points midlevel. Yet again, complaining because it's difficult.

This proves you played it for a few hours and it beat you and now you'd rather play those hand holding self-esteem raising games you "hate". That was the worst review from you I've ever seen. Your reviews usually have a point in with all that humour but this one was the worst representation of this game ever, full of contradictions and it was clear you didn't stick to your character style or level them.

Next time you call games these days too easy, make sure you don't call punishing and challenging games too hard.

Since I rarely actually buy new games, I watch Yahtzee's reviews mainly for the entertainment value. This one was, as usual, quite entertaining. Not in his top ten, but really, none of them aren't worth watching at least once. (The "live-action" Washington DC thing is the only exception IMHO, but it also wasn't really a review.)

yeah but Yahtzee never mentioned the Nexus again he might not of left Bolitera after beating Phalanx so no chance to level up but like i said the online can drop-out at random adn you might not notice so you wouldn't beable to see anything relating to other players.

I don't know, I bought the game the day it came out and loved it. It did take me about 45 hours to complete it due to the numerous deaths, but the challenge itself was rewarding. Nevermind the fact that my wife loved to watch me play because she got a kick out of all the "sudden death from axe-man around the corner" scenarios. I think the game is very well crafted, visually appealing, and challenging in a way that is refreshing. I needed something like this to bring my spirits up after yawn-smashing my way through Prototype.

Yeah, Yahtzee's not a multiplayer cat.
One of the coolest things about Demon's Souls that rarely gets mentioned (perhaps because it's a bit of a spoiler) is that you can play as someone's boss battle.
How fucking hard core is that?
