I'm a tad disappointed with this review, mostly cause I can't help but feel that Yahtzee sort of missed the point of the game and missed out a good deal of the game's core aspects. While I can see the game definitely isn't for everyone, I was hoping for some more in depth talk about the moral-choice stuff which I feel Warren Spector got down pretty damn well and interpreted them greatly into the game's concept, design and story.

Oh well, looking forward for the Extra Punctuation article.
You don't know what he thinks about moral choice systems? He thinks they are a waste of time as they don't mimic human emotions well and there is a tendency to always choose the option that gives you more stuff.

Why were we put on probation for these?
Haters gonna hate...
Rule #1: NEVER, even if it's the one time it happens to you, EVER say "first" as your comment. What are you? some preschool kid who's trying to prove to the teacher you won a race?
Fine I'll give you my quote, but what about the others? They simply said that they were not expecting what Yahztee put out this week. So, why are they being punished for expressing an earnest opinion?

And I said first because I have never gotten the first comment and because the site I frequent the most, screwattack.com (a great gaming site, not porn), has a very friendly community who make jokes when that comment is made like "Oh NOES you awoke the First Monster!!!" and add a funny picture. I have become used to civil and friendly banter on the internet, something most sites cannot claim they have.
Actually, the site has a policy of not allowing users to respond to a video until it's been physically possible to have finished watching it. It doesn't matter if you say "first". In other words, since the video goes up on the hour, the ad is 30 seconds, and the video is 5 minutes 27 seconds, you don't want to hit post until 7 minutes past the hour. That's why the next post (at x:07) wasn't put on probation.

I hope that makes it less confusing.

I never did like those people in suits. They always smiled too much. Creepily so. Epic Mickey seemed to be the chance I was waiting for to get rid of that fear, but it seems as if even that will be unable to.

The dual brush thing seemed so interesting too...

I know this, and that's also the thing. Epic Mickey doesn't use your typical "boldly-heroic and cartoonishly-evil" morality scale. It's alot more clever than that, which was why I was hoping he'd at least go into it, even if he'd have to criticize it. Hell it's the biggest and most important part of the game, and is why the paint/scrap gimmick exists.

This review can be summed up as Yahtzee crying because the game isn't Mickey Mouse meets Silent Hill.

I'm pulling the "He didn't bother finishing it" card. How else could he have missed;

*The backstory involving the death of countless characters,
*Characters being turned into sentient statues for 90 years,
*positive uses for thinner,
*Dark Beauty Castle part 2 which has you constantly menaced by a mountain sized eldritch abomination
*the final level which takes place inside said elritch abomination where you are beset up by "lost characters", who have been corrupted and turned into horrible tortured souls that will never find release.

Overall, the game is just kind of weird and its difficult to put a finger on how much I like it. Its like the weird love child of a 4/10 game and a 10/10 game.

How does being a Disney product automatically mean it?s shit?
There's nothing automatic about it, but basic pattern recognition suggests it strongly enough that I discount the margin of error.

As I mentioned in the earlier post (referenced below) it's based upon the timing of the posts, not the content. This can be confirmed by looking at the pattern of probation for other episodes over the last year. So even if he had followed your advice, he would still have run into that policy.

A game with mickey mouse in it. Who else knew beforehand that this was going to be a shit game?
Hear hear. I mean it would be announced in multiple internet medias and probably in all the TV news also, if a Mickey game from Disney would be actually even remotely good. Played some of those and... Yes.

Disney games were awesome back in the day when Capcom was behind them. I'm sure there's even a few people here who remember Castle of Illusion and how awesome that was. Despite Capcom not being behind this game, I still enjoyed this.

As to the darkness factor, why do these old school cartoons NEED a dark subtext? I know all about The Fuhrer's Face and the propaganda cartoons from back in the day, but it's not a crime to make a happy positive scenario. Hell, I watched Dirty Duck the other day (1975 R Rated Cartoon) where the animation was shocking even by the standards back then, and any form of message or story was destroyed by bizarre scenes of sexual perversion. That didn't make the cartoon better, it made it worse.

To all those people who said Warren Spector was never referenced in the video, he is 'implied' per se, when Yahtzee says 'the spectre of compromise'. It's a humble, insulting reference to Spector and how silly he is for abandoning all pretence and removing all links to the awesome mid-production concept art from the game

Fixed for truth.

In all seriousness though, Yahtzee's fans are the biggest sheep in the world outside of the SquareEnix fanboys who refused to acknowledge Final Fantasy XIV was a complete failure of a game in almost every way.

I enjoy watching and reading Yahtzee with a surprisingly high hit-rate that seems to be almost entirely independent of whether he likes the games I do or not. I think that's a mark of his communication/presentation style. Paradoxically, it's also the way a good diplomat is often described. But I digress.

Final Fantasy XIV seems to have had some really major issues. I'm not a fan of MMORPG games, so I can't comment on it in detail. What I can say is that I've had certain issues with many of the recent Final Fantasy games, despite the fact that it's been one of my favorite series and I consider myself to be a fan.

Being a fan of either content you mentioned doesn't make someone a "sheep". It's when we give up the choice to think for ourselves (in any context) that we may become "sheep". That's no more or less true for enjoying Yahtzee or a specific Final Fantasy game than anything else.

I'm sorry you feel like people aren't being discerning in consuming this program (which I personally find to be a really good one) and that you find the fact that people don't recognize your perspective on this specific game to be frustrating. I think we all can relate to at least one game that was like that, whether it was over-rated or overlooked.

In any case, Merry Christmas and I hope that you find the new year more enjoyable and that there are many opportunities for you to share those unexpected positive experiences with the rest of the forum. If anyone tries to give you shit about doing that, let me know: I've got your back. :)
