Okay this is a legit criticism of the game mechanics. I noticed like you my squad never seemed to open fire unless the enemy was literally in punching range. What I figured out is you have to literally order them to open fire. Then they do their job well enough.

But its a problem to be sure.

Now I demand that Ubisoft acquire the necessary licenses in order to make a game where Scooby Doo is dumped in the Bolivian wilderness and tasked with stopping an international cartel from making knock-off Scooby Snax.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but Wildlands sold like hotcakes https://www.pcgamesn.com/ghost-recon-wildlands/ghost-recon-wildlands-launch-sales.
These days it's not enough to sell like hotcakes. Games have to sell like golden hotcakes from Heaven that give blowjobs on demand.

Its also noticably bad with what is and isn't a physical object. Lots of gaps between fences (or chain link fences, or mesh walkways, or bars on windows) that stop bullets like a solid wall (while making an impact noise that alerts nearby guards you were probably trying to shoot.). And it seems to be very inconsistent with whether the same gaps can be seen through by enemies or not.

A few oddball impossible spawns too. Seen reinforcement enemies spawn inside an underground garage (guess its flagged as a road), and during a Radio broadcast defense, I was on the roof and my buddy was at the bottom and guys were spawning in the middle floors.

Also Alarm towers seem impervious to C4. They're definitely destroyable with almost anything else, but the hitbox to do damage is too high for the C4 to reach or something.

Don't forget that 5 C4 charges aren't enough to blow open a gate, but a dirt bike going at 30mph is more than enough to ram it open.
Yeah there are some hooky mechanics and physics.

This was a first, wasn't it? Yahtzee getting so bored with a game, he gives up and reviews a totally different game.
Unannounced? Yes. But he did something similar with Medal of Honor:Warfighter (pahahaha!).
You made me look!

That's a fun review too, though, I need easy so bad I'll take a look to see if Steam has Medel of Honor Warfighter (phah ha ha) cheap!

Night in the Woods it is then. Had people tell me about it before. Might as well check it out now. And this time my uncle won't be fondling my temple of jubilation, while I set up the tent.

And yet this pile of bland still sells like hot cakes guaranteeing we won't be getting an actual Ghost Recon anytime in the near future. Hurray modern games industry.

I'd say you are full of shit, since NiTW isn't anything like Life is Strange.
That's why I said it's LiS tier. Read: Absolute garbage.

As someone who really didn't like LiS, NitW is WAAAAAY better.
That doesn't mean much and you know it. Besides, it sounds similar to LiS in the way that there's some supernatural element attached to the story that doesn't really get resolved. I'll give you this, though, I don't know much about Flight in the Hood, but at the very least it's premise doesn't make me instantly imagine a better game.

Reviewing NITW in contrast to GRW was good, because it helps people to better understand where Yahtzee's desires lie, if they haven't watched all of his prior videos yet.

All I know is I played NITW for about 15 minutes and realized it was an impeccable work of indie art but I had zero interest in continuing with something which was fighting for my quiet reading time (and yes, I played through and enjoyed Gone Home). GRW in contrast caters to that moment when I want to shoot stuff in interesting ways.

That said.....I've played a lot of Ubisoft games in the last year and I think Ubisoft needs to start broadening its palette a bit.

But why do that when they can keep making variations of the same game over and over again and continue to make boatloads of cash?

*tries to cover up his copies of Far Cry 3, 4, and 90% of the main AC games*

I get the bizarre feeling Yathzee really wanted to do a full review for Night in the Woods but was told he needed to do Wildlands, so he just snuck a review for NITW in there anyway.

Reminds me that I need to play NITW. Sounds pretty good.
It's probably more that he wanted to avoid another Undertale scenario where he couldn't devote a full six minutes to describing the game without getting into spoilers but wanted it to be eligible for the year-end Top 5 anyway.

I think it's recent enough to be an Origin exclusive.

Yeah and they still want a lot for an old ass, not well reviewed military shooter! I'll wait for a sale.

Admittdly, that was an amusing saving throw.

Mentions how he didn't want to put games in the top 5 without reviewing them first, then says he'll review it.
"Undertale is a good game"
