I, for one, must respectfully disagree with Yatzee, and it's not often that I do.
He is comparing Ghostbusters to GOW2, and thats a little unfair. My question for Yatzee is : Name a better movie based video game license.
(yes, thats a dangerous question to ask, as I might not be thinking of that "perfect" game readily. But no, Spiderman 2 doesn't count, as the "fun" in that game is swinging between buildings, the movie tied elements sucks. The first Riddick isn't bad, but it doesn't feel like a tie in either, it feels like a separate game with a Vin Diesel model.)
Everything in that review feels like Yaztee didn't actually play Ghostbusters. Slimer? He appears ONLY in the tutorial, why even mention him seeing as the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man is in the scene right after Slimer? I mean, he is right there at the start, and HE SUCKS! Yatzee didn't even lampoon him at all. Crossing the stream? Common, I must have died like twice in the whole game because of this, it's not an issue. To much stuff going on? The other Ghostbusters aren't event there for half of the game, and when they are, it's rarely all of them. And the "chaos" isn't worse than when playing multiplayer either. Trapping ghosts? It IS Ghostbusters we are talking about, right? What the hell is wrong with trapping ghosts? To many traps? How about just laying down your trap at the start of a fight? The computer won't lay his down if you do. And the "having to trap ghosts over and over again problem" is gone by stage 2 or 3... Only the larger battles require it after the 1st level, because new kind of enemies are introduced (possessed stuff that do not require trapping)
His review sounds like it was written by someone who was told what the game is about, but who didn't actually play the game, or who was too busy writing "funny" material while playing.
IMHO, Ghostbuster is the perfect movie tied in games, plain and simple. A "new" adventure, not a recreation of the events seen in a movie, characters and humor that you recognize, even if you didn't watch the movie for 20 years. Ghostbusters : The Game feels more like a movie spin off novel than a game, just like it should be.
Yaztee is (more and more) comparing games to what he thinks are perfect games, instead of just judging games at face value, and while I understand that I could go to other elsewhere to read a "positive" review, and that Yatzee's shticks is funny ranting, sometime it seems that he rant just because it pays the rent.
/No, I don't work or have affiliation for whoever makes that game.
EDIT : I have to say something : The game isn't perfect, and it's not the best 3rd person shooter ever either. The stone angels were retarded, and you spend way to much time healing the computer AI (that part is right). The "scary" bits aren't scary, but neither was Ghostbusters, and the story is a little clichee (It's like a mashup of GB 1 and 2, and they don't even try to hide it). Still, I stand behind my opinion above
