I quite liked this game actually. I bought it in July while i was in Japan (ha ha to you guys the title isnt gay over there) and was quite disappointed when i saw the title/commercial for the US release. I wanted to take every one of those kids and beat them against a wall. Bowsers Inside Story? Couldnt they have taken the Japanese hint and just kept the number 3? I found #2 to be too easy and #1 a bit sluggish, but #3 i like because it adds something new and interesting. However, my biggest compalint is the section which you have to mask rocks to get past the giant caterpillar, which they probably removed for the american release because americans would whine about how hard it is. This section requires no skill, just constant mashing of your stylus and LUCK, every now and again you find a rock with something in it and that something will destroy (sometimes even clear the entire screen) rocks to an extent, if you dont find those fast you lose. But all in all, a fun but short game.

I never got into the Mario and Luigi games, I thought it had great charm but I also agreed the game was too easy and it wound up being repetitive so I couldn't get into it. Gameplay is what keeps me interested in a game not just the story alone.

I'm glad somebody as unbiased as yourself can state in plain terms who the better of the Mario brothers are. This game was definately easier than I expected, but Nintendo did a good job of keeping things entertaining.
While we're at it, with them being the Mario brothers and all, I just assume that their last name is Mario.

it's a chip butty. not a chip sandwich, a chip butty, it consists of greasy chip shop chips with lots of salt and vinegar between either heavily buttered white bread or inside a heavily buttered white roll. I know you have to pander to pre-pubescent Americans but you're still from England and here it's called a chip butty.I created an account just to say that...

I await my ban/suspension.

Okay, I was seriously not expecting this one. I thought it was going to be either Uncharted 2, Borderlands, or Brutal Legend. Of course Brutal Legend to the best of my knowledge hasn't been officially released in Australia but Yahtzee isn't the kind of guy who would let something like that stop him. I also hope he gets around to Demon's Souls at some point. That game is a JRPG but most, if not all, of the things he hates about JRPGs (like being assigned a role as opposed to creating one, bizarre hair styles, male characters that don't look masculine enough, and turn-based combat) seem to be conspicuously absent from the game. Now THAT would be something to look forward to. Although at the same time I am a bit curious about what he will think of Brutal Legend. That would seem to be the most likely choice for next week.

But having said that I think Yahtzee is probably at least somewhat of a masochist. No matter how many times Nintendo kicks him in the balls he always seems to come back for more sooner or later.

What?
What's your problem?
What did I do that made you feel that you had to tell me how to do something?

Well I think the reason Peach lives in an unguarded castle right next door to her serial rapist is so she can continue her tawdry affair with Bowser, while looking like the innocent victim in the eyes of her people. What?

I maintain that Legend of the Seven Stars for the SNES is perhaps the best Mario game ever made. I haven't played the Paper Mario games so this opinion might change. And I too had an affinity for Luigi, since both he and I are younger siblings who are tall, gangly and are often passed over for larger, less interesting guys.

I'm looking forward to meeting Yahtzee at GameX this weekend.

I'm sorry Yahtzee. You tried, and it's not your fault, but it's just too hard to make Mario an interesting thing to review. It's just the usual stuff. Anyone who's played any Mario RPG knows what to expect.

You are right, tails was always better. At least until he got sex change in 2006. Anyway, I'd like to that Mario and Sonic winter olympic thingy get ridicule next week.

If I had three wishes I would wish for omnipotence then change the world as I saw fit then use my omnipotence to take my omnipotence away so I don't get bored.

I never heard of this game.

Luigi was always better. In SMB3, I used to always start in two player, give all Mario's lives to Luigi then kill off Mario.

It is a bit unfair that Luigi get pushed aside while Mario, fat glutton that he is, gets to soak up all the accolades. Kinda glad all he gets to do is save his MacGuffin princess who never puts out. The only times I've seen Luigi be the main attaction of a game is when Mario's been plot-conveniently Fat Italian Plumber-napped, see Luigi's Mansion or the laughably horrible Mario Is Missing. One of these days, Luigi's going to be in a game where he gets the poon while Mario is off crying about it.

On the subject of what this thread is about, another stellar one, Yahtzee.

I've always enjoyed the Mario RPGs as well. Good review, Yahtzee. ...Though I'm guessing this game doesn't stand up to Legend of the Seven Stars. Sigh.

RAWR submit your soul to the one eyed demon!

Is it just me or do Yahtzee's one liner keep getting better?
But what part is the eye?

Also, I think Yahtzee hates things (particularly other people) a bit too much.

Game was good when it came out, but fails to stand the test of time. Timing mechanics that it had have been improved upon in the Mario and Luigi games, and Mother 3 has something similar, but better. Humor is better in the Mario and Luigi games simply on account of Fawful. The platforming is atrocious because of that forced weird angle SNES fake-3D thing they have going on that lends itself about as well to good platforming as the Republican party does to helping minorities. Like I said, good for its time, but everything it did well or unique has been done much better than it ever did.
