My my. Who could have seen this coming? [/sarcasm]

I have never really got into any of the MGS games so I don't really have any opinion on the game or the series itself. I thought the review was pretty funny, even though I don't know how much of it is true (not that I care).

So now he's bashed to pieces all three console front runners! Hurray for PC!

true completely, every word he speaks.

But that doesn't stop MGS4 from being awesome out the ass.

Oh christ...The denial fanboy tears in this thread are priceless.

I can understand that people might still enjoy the game despite it's flaws, and even that some people might NOT consider some of these things flaws (like the endless and needless cutscenes)... But some people seem to have just entered a whole new level of denial... You can argue that you enjoy them, but you can't deny these things are there...

i am a fanboy but i would rather play a 19-20 hour game/movie than a 6 hour shooter lacking in storyline getting shot in every which way really bad dialogue and no character development(otherwise known as gears of war).(PM if i missed anything though it wouldnt really matter because i would probably be banned) anyway i loved the show yahtzee yet i have yet to encounter an enemy where i can knock them out with a single tranq dart o_O

Ummm... nice review, very nice... but wtf is with the dumbass ads at the end?

It's lame because a few times Yahtzee has done really cool little movies at the end so I'm expecting something funny and then I just get raped by an ad. Please stop that nonsense Yahtzee.

what the fuck. yahtzee dunno whats hes talkin bout. well.. he does. but the game is incredible. the story is not badly written. its the greatest ever. heh. whatever. it doesnt matter. i love it and i dont give a shit what yahtzee said.
If by "greatest ever" you mean "endless convoluted verbal diarrhea", then yes, MGS' story is the greatest ever.
So by that you're saying that MGS story is a pile of shit? the story for me is great. total epic storyline.

Hahahaha, I lol'd.
Anyway nice review, I felt the 'funny' in this review that made me fall in love with the Zero Punctuation series in the first place, which I was kind of missing in the last two reviews.
I'm not implying they were bad, I'm just implying this one was way funnier.

me, i've never played an mgs game. for curiosity's sake, i looked it up on wikipedia to see what the fuss is about. then i saw the ending for mgs4 both for Raiden and Solid Snake.

lemme just say that i feel sorry for those that spent $500 on June 12th for that.

for a bit of a spoiler on what i'm talking about:

it's one of those endings that goes "congratulations, you beat it! but here's the thing: that stuff you did back in mgs 1-3, didn't really happen. here's the REAL story. sorry for making you trek through 3 games just to find out you got a tranny surprise."

Yahtzee is right on this one. It's a fun game, but the story is just crazy, and it seems like half of it is recycled from the other games. Snake, insert disc 2, oh nevermind it's a ps3 lulz.
The most frustrating thing is that snake and his team of idiots are constantly doing things that don't make a lot of sense. A room full of microwaves? I think I'll make sure I do NOT equip my metal barrel, because metal absorbs microwaves and I want to make sure I die. When the guards put their guns away and all have swords, why can't I slaughter them with one of my many guns? Using a sword is just stupid.

Erm, hate to say it but thats what makes FPS good i.e. Doom, Wolfenstein, Duke Nukem. The days when it wasn't required to put a complex story in where at the end even the developers don't know what they are talking about.

That is just stupid.

If Snake were to do that, it would ruin the effect of the whole scene and I would snap the disc in half in disgust.

Having read the review, I must say I have lolled. Especially at the "OH CHRIST" moment. Precious.
I haven`t played MGS4 but I have played MGS2 and I enjoyed it. The at times uncomfortable controls and long-winded cutscenes were present there as well, but it did not bother me too much. The cutscenes I like actually. I remember looking forward to them while playing, say, FFX, because they advanced the plot and random encounters got boring quickly. Cinematic experiences are ok with me.
But Yahtzee raises an interesting point. The franchise`s universe is absolutely nuts and yet people still think it`s cool. I do, as well. I don`t know why. Try to explain the series` plot, character`s stories and their relations in detail to someone who has no idea what MGS is and you will probably be advised to stop taking crack. In the trailers I see all those characters from past installments, some of them presumably dead and I wonder how the hell did Kojima explain this freak show coming all together again. But I get the feeling I will not reject the bull excrements that will be served. And I`m not even a fanboy. Why?

Ads=money=good. As long as Yahtzee himself doesn`t advertise something himself in his reviews (can`t picture that) we gotta understand it`s business. Though some more movies would be cool. The Painkiller thingy was pure magic.

snake's best friend says too much story and not enough game - cute ass grandad.

well, what did you expect, were the other games any less tedious?

anyway, I have no very special decision [http://mikephilbin.blogspot.com/2007/07/ufc-2009-amazing-ingame-footage.html].

Glee.

How would it ruin the scene? In the other Metal Gear games, you do all kinds of crazy things to get around strange obstacles. In MGS1, I remember smoking a cigarette to expose light sensors. I flew a Nikita missile through a gas-filled room to disable an electrified floor. I switched controller ports to kill a psychic. I took sedative drugs to kill a sniper. I wore a woman's kerchief to walk past her dogs.

By having snake not use the barrel, it completely breaks character.

Hrmmm, I don't know about this one. Ben didn't seem as excited or interested in the review, I think routine is finally setting in.
Also, the ad was half the video, if you take out the title and credits the ad was longer than the video. I'm hoping this isn't going to be a recurring trend.

Great review, spot on!

However, I was hoping for a review of Ninja Gaiden 2.
All right, this is off-topic, but I don't think ZP needs to review since there's already a brilliant animated review of it in circulation:

It basically captures the wonderful essence of NG1 and NG2 :)

.... why do I even bother? As I have said before in the end its about the hypocracy of him bashing a game he very well could have made. Frankly he didn't even do a good job of bashing all the flaws in the game but thats not even the point. The fact that I think most of you who can't handle cut scenes out there need to lay off the Halo is irrelevent. the FACT is that he wrote a game that is very much like most of Hideos work and then he bashes MGS4 for something HE has done himself. how hard is that to understand?
I was going to wait until I was sure I read all of your comments, but I'm literally getting tired. So, I'll just use this one.

FACT: It's merely your OPINION that Hideos and MGS4 are similar.
FACT: It's only your OPINION that Yahtzee has sold out. (You have no proof.)
FACT: It's your OPINION that a high cutscene to game ratio is good.
FACT: Heck, it's your OPINION that Yahtzee isn't funny any more.

Hopefully, you now get the point that EVERYTHING you've said is an OPINION. You haven't backed it up with facts, so it's just as good as anyone else's. So, since you can't win the argument, you just keep saying the same thing over and over. This will not change anyone's mind.

You'd be much better off if you just moved on. You don't like Yahtzee anymore. So don't watch his stuff. Don't participate in these forums. Just go about your merry way, enjoying the games that you enjoy. Be happy with your knowledge that Yahtzee is a hypocrite, that you shared this knowledge with others, and don't feel sorry for those of us who don't get it.

=======================================

Finally, because I don't want to be banned, I have to say something about the review. Last week's didn't make me laugh. This week's did, after I got through the boring first part. The "well-rounded characters" made me literally LOL.

I'm probably never going to play this game. Not because of anything Yahtzee said, but because I don't own a PS3, and don't plan on getting one any time soon. So, I have no opinion on this game whatsoever.
