'Adequate' is exactly the reason he avoids reviewing some games. When a game is terrible, there's lots of fun tearing it apart; similarly, when it's excellent, he can praise it effusively while exploiting every tiny flaw. When the game is just ho-hum, middle of the road, suitable fare without being either very offensive or very engaging, then it gets hard to review. I'd rather he make quite funny videos about some games than kinda-funny videos about all games.
Oh, I understand and completely agree with the practice. I put the word in brackets tongue in cheek as in he doesn't want to hurt his reputation by being 'nice' so instead of calling a game good he refers to it as 'adequate'.

It's also a "They Might be Giants" reference. That line from the movie "Oh, you mustn't feel inferior! Keep repeating to yourself 'I'm adequate'." was a running joke in my family for years and years. :D

Yahtzee kinda seemed like he...y'know...liked this game. Which is always sort of nice.

I also enjoyed all the train puns ^^

I guess the "disregarding other cities" thing is just a result of the area around Moscow being so inhospitable that you have no realistic way of even checking what happened to the rest of the world. For all you know they could have turned Russia into a giant monster zoo while the rest of the world is fine and happy.
In Metro 2033, you can hear several conversations talking about the metro system in St. Petersburg, and even about a small column of tanks who set up a little outpost in the wastes.
Well the tank colony doesnt respond to radio calls anymore and the metro in ST. Petersburg... well lets say that it isnt clear if all that shit in the Metro tunnels are really because of the radiation or if they have been before and now just have more tasty meals than before. There is a story of how the construction worker got eaten and the people of the next shift just found their bones.

Don't give it to a Modern Warfare player because they're chew their own arms off?

You mean don't not give it to a Modern Warfare player, right?

Oh god yes.
Jesus Christ was the part where you rescue her and she comes on to you painful to watch. Also: WHY THE FUCK WAS SHE COMPLETELY CLEAN? She was kidnapped and beaten, besides being a soldier, yet she had no bruises, was well groomed and perfectly clean. No one else in the Metro was. You have dirty and bruised hands, every man, child and woman looked like they actually had been living in a post apocalyptic world. Everyone except Ms. Love Interest during that one scene. That totally took me about of the game, loved every other part about it though. (When you see her during the last chapter she looks normal again, has bandages dirt and all)

I think it's because that London or New York or *pick-a-city* subways were just designed as underground train networks, whereas during the Cold War the stations of the Moscow Metro were reinforced to be fully functional nuclear fallout shelters each in their own right, complete with blast doors and all that jazz.

Am looking forward to this game, the previous was awesome. Maybe they should have had one city as a hub, and your actions change it through out the game.

Well yeah, but those bits imply that there are potentially other human populations. Rural areas might have even been unaffected by the bombing due to their distance from strategic targets.

Ah, I was so very looking forward to this one from you Yahtzee and you didn't disappoint.

I really enjoyed Metro LL so much that I had to replay it again to get the good ending. I wonder if there's going to be a third game, regardless I hope it does well.

That'd be a bit tricky to do. I think you know why.

I'm surprised that he didn't gripe on the crappy romance with the sniper, Anna.

Seriously, to me, it was like Russian Twilight, but whatever.

And I too, felt that the supernatural elements lost a crap-ton of meaning when they actually happened to be true and not ambiguous, ie: when Artyom was proceeding to Riga station both in the game and in the novel, it was never explained whether it was other-wordly powers that caused everyone to die/go insane, which built up the tension and made the Metro seem like a creepier place.

But in Last Light, and in 2033(the book) too, they decided to say "Oh, there ARE ghosts in the Metro, Artyom IS psychic", which killed the suspense and mystery somewhat.

I did like the lack of direction though, in some parts of the game; it evoked memories of Half-Life's level structure.
Whilst I have gripes with Anna as a character, this was NOT a romance. Both Artyom and her were just doing it because they expected to die any moment or at the very least soo. Whilst there were feelings into the mix, it was not Love, at least not yet.

As for those powers... Artyom is no psychic. He just has more resistance to SOME of the otherworldly powers and can talk to the Dark Ones. Apart from them, there are many things that occur in the game or are spoken about by characters that fit the term "horro"quite well.
Yeah, the soppy music during the scene, and the fact she is literally the first woman Artyom sees in the game is sooo not trying to be romantic(!)

Sorry, but it really took me out of the game.

But to me, I always felt that the Metro series was strong because of how grounded it was, and that the supernatural elements just dispelled that immersion.

Also, Artyom can speak to monsters with his mind, I'm pretty sure that qualifies as psychic, at least, in the literal sense.

CAPTCHA: knock off.

DAMN IT, CAPTCHA, I AM TOO BORED TODAY TO NOT GRIPE ON SOMETHING.

Aw, I was hoping you did keep in contact with your Russian-speaking co-worker that secretly hates you.
Of course, that's not such a big deal to turn myself into mr. picky-pants, but the last part "Americans are dead and nobody cares" would rather sound less weird, if translated as "AMEPUKAHII,bI MEPTBbI, U BCEM IIJIEBATb" (sorry for caps - seems like escapist doesn't support cyrillic letters at all). See, Russian folks more likely prefer to not just _n_o_t_ _c_a_r_e_ about, but also "spit" on a situation, on top of that.

So, in case if any of these facts matter and Mr. Croshaw actually cares, would gladly help to provide with properly translated phrases for future videos.

Sincerely yours,
annoying, yet passionately loving fan

Public transportation is quite excellent in my little country. Though all the subways move pretty much exclusively above ground which kind of fucks us over in case of nuclear war.

The last line just killed me.

Compass tells you where to go when you're on the surface (though it's very dodgy), and the wheels of the tank start glowing red after you damage them just a bit, I believe.

One advice to people that are gonna play the game, put spoken language on Russian. It's improves the game, and makes it WAY more immersive.

I Actually stopped playing the first one (With spoke on English) because i couldn't get into it. When LL was going to be released, I decided to replay it but did put spoken on Russian this time. Loved every second of it.

I heard some youtube vids where it was on English. And it was just bad. Bad bad bad bad bad.

Seriously, Russian is the way to go.
It would be, but the subtitles aren't exactly friendly in such situations. I'm happy to know a language that's more or less close to Russian (thanks to which I could understand most of the bystander's conversations and read all the signs), but most other people just won't understand most of it. And that'd be a shame, considering how much those bystander's conversations tell you about the world.

I loved the first Metro game, and I love this one. The atmosphere is great... once you've adjusted the FOV so as to not get a horrible headache.

Anyways there were also the strippers
Stripers? ... I guess I understand the need for entertainment, but where would they get sexy clothes from?

I loved the train puns, here's hoping Yahtzee puts more puns in in future.
