As a white dude with brown hair and a regional British accent, I approve of this game.

...

One of your best reviews for while actually, despite never having heard of this game before I enjoyed that :-D

I think that opening segment could easily be applied to Dead Rising 2 as well. Once you reach level 19 there is no reason to run about until like level 25 when your run speed is faster than just rolling about.

Well at least it was another pirate game?... yay? Or just AssCreed IV instead.

Wait.. So what is the point of the whole undead thing then? Why make a py-rate game about the legions of the no longer living?

It's curious. To my knowledge, these are the same guys who made Gothic, right? Well, in that game, you could get the Acrobatics skill to jump further (including a roll at the end), fall deeper without hurting yourself etc.; just like the dodge roll mentioned here, it allowed you to get around a lot faster, looked utterly idiotic and was still something I would never stop doing for convenience's sake. They must love adding stuff like that, I guess.

Maybe because the first Pirates of the Caribbean film was a great (ly successful) film, seeing as the game industry likes to suckle at Hollywood's tactics.

He doesn't review RTSs (usually) because he knows that they aren't for him and any judgement he makes of them would be unfair. Ditto fighting games which he only does on rare occasions.

Well Yahtzee, at least there is no more Deep Silver games to review now. If you had another one it would become a "thing", and we don't want, do we?

I find it strange that people get mad about the lack of diversity in games that have never allowed any type of character customization and have always been narrative driven to the point of being fucking movies, like Assassin's Creed but have never even raised an eyebrow at the Risen or Gothic series. Considering how weak the narrative is in these two series, there is little reason that you should not be able to play a fucking orc, let alone a woman.

Why does Risen 3 have such a generic cover? It doesn't even look like the dude with the sword and the snake are fighting, it look's like the fella just burst into the snakes house and jumped it while it was asleep.

Yeah I remember that from the Baldur's Gate PS2 hack'n'slash. Jumping was faster than running, which made you look fucking stupid, so I ran, so my co-op partners who had no such qualms reached all the loot first. How is jumping faster than running? Like, seriously?

Anyhow, good review of a game I was never going to play.

In preparation for Divinity: Original Sin, I played Divinity 2. In Divinity 2, your main character can jump. And since they're awesome, their jump has a little flip attached to it so they can leap in and out of combat situations quickly.

...When moving forward, the jump is significantly faster than walking. So you jump EVERYWHERE.

Playing Wind Waker right now, so I've got the 'roll everywhere' technique down.

Given that "splice" means to put two things together (precise definition may be a bit more complex), to splice a mainbrace probably means to repair it by roping a second pole to it to keep it in place. Would be my guess.

Yes, I am commenting on the joke comment at the end, what's it to you?

I recall playing Risen 1 (and I believe I have Risen 2 on Steam or GOG or something): I loved playing through. It had loads of quirks and bugs, sure, but if you could see past all that then much like Two Worlds it had a lot of love to share. The problem I had however that put me off bothering to install the 2nd iteration was the ending of Risen.

Seriously, the game spent ages building up this huge storyline, only to top it with a fairly easy boss fight and a brief end cinematic. There was no chance to return to the world to finish up side quests, and just like that my fun had come abruptly to a halt.

Sure. When is a good RTS going to ever come out?
Probably in 2025 when 0 ad have finished its alpha phase and moved into beta. Lord knows the AAA publishers despise the genre for some reason.

Don't worry, Risen 3 mostly continues that tradition. The only difference is I couldn't beat the final boss at first because I'm not very good, but then I travelled again, increased my skills and got all the health buffs and then even I found it easy.

you know the ax was a pritty important weapon for pirates. Its not like everyone could afford the sword and pistol combo.
