And so the current gen begins. Weird I thought it would be Dead Rising 3 this week.
But yeah I've pretty much heard what's been said in the episode about Ryse. Besides the fact that the combat could be fun maybe there's little that interests me in it. Oh well back to Dead Rising 3 I go!

I guess it is very noticeable that this game originated as a Kinect exclusive on the XBox 360.
I was actually looking forward to this game, hoping it would be more of a open level and unit commanding approach... I was even prepared to play it on Kinect, god damn it. I really wish we could get a good game like this (if there is already, please point me to it, that would be much appreciated - and no 40K: Space Marine doesn't count and neither does Star Citizen, I mean actual Roman Empire, not the copycats). It seems it isn't meant to happen, though.

The line that got me this episode was: "Throwing pilums at pillocks."
[edit] oh wow. Just found out that the plural of Pilum is in fact: Pila. "Throwing Pila at pillocks" does not roll off your tongue anywhere near as nice as the afore mentioned line.
I found Ryse to be utterly mediocre from a gameplay perspective, but indeed pretty damn lovely to look at.
I also remember reading that Crytek were thinking of taking out the QTEs... yet they didn't. They just replaced the button prompts with colour prompts. tsk tsk

Honestly, from the moment I saw the E3 trailer I knew Ryse would be a bad game. Not just because it seems to be a literal manifestation of quick time events but because I could tell it was going for the walking tour of big set-pieces kind of game that CoD and other such games have recently become. I wonder if Yahtzee's had the chance to let any of us Aussies have a try with the XBox One voice commands? I'm genuinely curious as to whether the thing can understand us and I have no friends that own a XBone to try one.
Not surprised in the slightest. Even the E3 trailer was woefully underwhelming; what chance did the rest of the game have?

I hear he seeks the truth." And I hear the writers of this game all hanged themselves halfway through writing the bloody thing.

I've seen in multiple places that this is supposed to be the best exclusive game on the Xbox One at the minute. Well if that's the case I'm just glad that Assassin's Creed IV is available on the last generation still, since that's the only game worth buying on either new console.

Seriously it takes that long to install FROM THE DISC!?!? On my ps4, you pop a disc in for the first time and give it a minute and your good to go. I was tempted to try and ask for this system for Christmas but now the more I hear, I think I'll wait till march and wheater to get titanfall for xbox one, pc, or 360.

Wait, so they grabbed one of the coolest periods of history, pulled out all the stops to make it look beautiful, and then wantonly ignored actual (awesome) history in favor of a mishmash of what actually happened? WHY?! Why couldn't you have just fought Hannibal? Was it so necessary that they arbitrarily invent a new war for Rome to fight? Were there not enough REAL ones?
Heck, why did the protagonist have to be fictional? Surely they could have had the player play as a soldier in Scipio's army or some such?

OT: Surprised he mentioned romance as a missing part of the game; if it was included, I would have been willing to bet it was God of War style shenanigans, which isn't really worth anything.
This and Knack, both games on next gen but both might as well be on rails. Not played Ryse, but played a little bit of Knack and its gameplay involves walking down little corridors. This is gaming i expect from a few gens ago, not on next gen. No real excuse for it. Now if Knack and Ryse turn into huge gaming environments with lots of freedom of direction, then fine, im wrong in my judgement. But while fun can still be had with both these titles, im not saying these are not fun enjoyable titles, its still a bit disappointing to be playing them on a new console.
Well, I can see why they did not want the QTEs to be called QTE... because you don't even have to do anything to make sure the game doesn't shows how you fucked up the button prompt... (Clever, yet pointless to even color-coat it...)
Also, it seems almost everyone was on the money about it being both unoriginal and basically being the next COD... if they really want to do a Ryse 2: King of Greece or something like that... since, you know, "historical revisionism"...

Maybe i'm just not delusional enough but i can't for the life of me figure out what's the point of Quick Time Events when you don't even have to do them to continue. I mean, in that case you might aswell just not have them and nothing would be lost.
