serious sam 2 is still the best SS for me, but SS3 is still damn good. all i missed from the game is the humor i love so much from part 2.
never the less, its still a damn fun game. a typical old school shooter. just a little mix of modern games in it.

I do you've lost the point of why you do this job, Yahtzee. You're allowed to recommend things! You only have a bile-spewing everything sucks facade under which you are a smart critic trying to find joy through the muck. Your current long-running trend of "I like this game but I can't be bothered saying outright that I do" or just saying "this game was alright but hold on while I list everything negative without bothering to build any sort of counter-argument whatsoever" just loses grasp of everything that made you great in the first place.

You always seem to skirt around the issue of whether you personally liked it. You never used to; you always used to understand how subjective opinions worked and so exercised your right to one as brashly as possible. But everything you say now is so safe, semi-recommendations at most, and it's slightly irksome because it means some truly great games get somewhat shafted when you come to the conclusion predictable of "it's alright".

I agree with you, perhaps it is time to swallow your pride and stick solely to reviewing indie games. Perhaps through a different series altogether, something more somber, a chance for you to really use those critical thinking chops you have without having to drag in through the muck of the cheap laugh and the "I am a angry review man grrr" facade. It's just a thought, but I think it'd really fulfill the initial goal of this Zero Punctuation series more than it has been doing now. Worth considering, I hope.

I was really looking forward for Yahtzee to do a Zero Punctuation on our game. I was also terrified it will make me cry.

I didn't cry, so I guess that went rather well :)
Wait, what? Did you say what I just heard you say....
It is said that when yahtzee reviews developers are watching...

Ah, so BFE does NOT stand for: Best Friends Ever! Roger that! :-D

Still, it's nice to see that the old school shooter's haven't gone completely extinct. Lately, the FPS genre has become somewhat stale, so we definetly need games like SS3 to shake things up a bit.

Ah balls, now I'm gonna have to go back to that game. I'm a huge fan of the First and Second Encounters, so I was really hyped for this one. But the opening is just as bad as Yahtzee says and worse. I couldn't get out of the city before I lost interest. I wrote it off as a misguided attempt to paint over a modern game with Serious Sam themed paint. But apparently all the cool stuff is hidden in the middle of the game. Time to go reinstall, I guess.

While I'm hoping that this will be worth it, I still believe that The Second Encounter is the best game in the series. That one opened with a ludicrously entertaining series of physics bending rooms and arena fights. If you buy this one, be warned: the beginning is one of the most soulless stretches of gaming I've ever had.
I guess I was one of the few people who enjoyed the opening because I can appreciate good pacing. It also makes sense in regards to the story. At first Sam's just clearing out the hang-arounds of the invasion force, who are sticking around to fuck some shit up for fun. Eventually a warship takes notice of this and decides to pop in there to take care of Sam. After it gets its ass-kicked, Mental realizes there may be more to this guy than there is at first glance, and starts sending down troops specifically to kill Sam,which is when theg ame picks up. Why not just moon the planet right off and be done with it? Because Mental is mental.

As for the whole experience, I adore the game. Especially the multiplayer, where the winner is based purely on map knowledge and skill.

The review was what I expected. But I am just glad that another person reviewed this game because so few of the usual places I go act don't act like it exists.

And I hope it sells well enough on PC that we can get a console release because everything that I have seen says to me that this game is awesome.

Meh, was really hoping for Dark Souls. Maybe next week.
I don't think he's going to do that. With his weekly time constraints and his, you know, Parkinson's disease and stuff, he'd probably kill the tutorial boss after 20 tries, reach Firelink and pick the Catacombs path. That whole experience might provide enough funny material for a review, but he already did that whole "holy shit this game is hard, so fuck it" thing with Demon's Souls, so I don't think he has anything to add to that unless he actually puts in the effort that the game requires from the player and doesn't play it like "generic pop-corn action game #423870".

shouldn't[/i] need to be full price.
Actually they did make an HD remake of Serious Sam 1.

You can also get it off of X-Box Live and PSN too. It's only 15 bucks.

Maybe he shouldnt review every single big game. This review was pretty boring, all points were already expected and not even some witty jokes, except for the balls one maybe...
Then he'll be not only attacked with 1001 fanboys, but also his employer because reviewing big popular titles naturally draws in the biggest audience.

I'm quite surprised he didn't even mention any amount of hate for the Kleer Skeletons, THE single most annoying enemy you will ever find on FPSs

Kleer hate is an absolute for any Serious Sam fan, so it doesn't need mentioning.

Luckily, I got Serious Sam TFE and TSE HD editions 75% off back in May 2011. They were also put 90% off on Steam's holiday sale while BFE was 50% off for being "new" and not as crowded as Skyrim or Modern Warfare 3.

I'm not sure who chooses the sales, since Duke Nukem (will) Forever (be known as a letdown) got lots of sales. If it's Croteam who made the sales, then that sure is nice. If Valve's Steam team decided the discounts, then it might be about the Metascore or something.
The publisher of any game on steam gets final say on the price point at all times.

That doesn't mean they don't take suggestions from Valve, though.

I don't Know if yatzee will ever read this but just want to set the record straight... in this video he complains again about not closing the doors on helicopters etc, this is beacuse helicopters are not very well armoured beacuse armour is very heavy, if you don't have any armour your better off removing any obsticals to a speedy exit in case of emergency, hence open doors

Thought the review was abit unfair. It's true the game is a throwback but it is the throwback people have been waiting for. It's an incredibly fast paced shooter and absolutely fun as all hell.

The grey enemies? To be honest you get introduced to the soldier monsters so you can just pick up some new weapons but by then you're alreay taking on spiders and the like.

Plus all the cliches and bad dialogue is just because it's serious sam. To criticise that aspect in a game like this is a little nitpicky.

Furthermore the corridor sections are well implemented as they make a break from the massive arena style mayhem. It is well designed and it has plenty of moments to make you smile. Oh and the soundtrack is perfect and the game is hard aswell.

I hope people do go and buy it. Croteam delivered on this one, it's what Duke Nukem Forever should have been.
