The trailers had me expecting yet another brown/gray realistic shooter that I was going to ignore, but now I might check it out.

Ugh.

I'm supposed to be avoiding game purchases at least until the end of the year. But when you say 'good story' it makes it all more harder for a lover of storytelling to keep the wallet closed.

I'll avoid this by picking up a good book.
2 words my friend family video (or the nearest movie rental store) you can get a game for a week for less that 10$ saves you money and gives you a definitive yes or no on if your going to buy it. unless your a pc gamer then just prey to the steam gods i guess

This game was completelly out of my radar and I was totally ready to ignore it. Now it looks like I have to try it. I'll get it when it eventually drops to almost nothing.

Wait...so I can kill Americans rather than generic Russian/Arabs? Count me in!
Hell, if the enemies were from Fiji it would be a welcome break from the usual human fodder we meet in games.

I agree here The mission with the white phosphorus really made me feel like a total ****
Bravo, you ruined the surprised. But I agree. Gameplay wasn't the best but the story definately is one of the best that I've played in a while...I definately recommend it.

I saw a commercial on tv stating 'Do [something - don't remember] and get a chance to win an Xbox 360 with the game Spec ops: the line"

And immediately thought; this game must surely be shit for them to give it away for free.

And so it is.

Yay for me.

Did you even watched the episode or played the game? The gameplay is meh but the rest is good, it has a lot of detail in it, not just story wise

Aww, Yahtzee, you shouldn't hesitate to go all serious on us, we won't leave! You could do an Extra Punctuation on The Line; you obviously have a lot to say about it, but you felt you couldn't stuff it in the video without you audience going: "Six minutes of talky nonsense and no farting sounds?! I'm never watching this series again!"

Anyway, The Line makes me cream myself with every new review that I read/watch. It's like a mighty, echoing slap to the face of dudebro manshoots. But it's less of a finger-wagging killjoy, and more of a "yes, it's been fun the first five times, and it's been tolerable the next twenty times, but now it's just getting silly, guys" directed right at the industry's overworked FPS machine.

captcha: "never give up"
Wow, where do you get these from, Escapist? I feel more motivated every time you check whether I'm a bot.

Wow I have only one question. Was it really that gruesome? It has that much of a guilt element? That a plus but dang I don't have the money.

Yes! I was hoping he'd like it (or atleast not hate it :p), got it last week and enjoyed it ALOT. The story is really good with good characters, and the game often tries to provoke you in various ways, here's hoping we'll get more games like this instead of the "Mericuh Fukk Yeh!!" shooters developers normally make (EA and Activision being the biggest producers).

Also, Nolan North is doing a good job :)
I knew he would like it but I didn't think it could get a ZP video and be the basis of an EP instead.

And this was Nolan North's best work and for someone who has been in almost every game in 2009 -2010 ,including Nathan Drake and Alpha Protocol's most interesting character(Stephen Heck), that is something.

Well, I'm intrigued, guess I'll check it out, for pretty much all of the factors mentioned in this review (at least the non-flatulence ones).
Also; new novel = here, have some money (via Amazon)...

I actually played the demo for this and found the gameplay quite lacking if being utterly annoying. The chemistry of the characters was lacking (maybe it's because it's the demo) and frankly I couldn't feel invested in it. But that being said, I did enjoy this review since it has something Yahtzee is very good at and that is the juxtaposition of being funny. Grim games can work, but really, if it's not fun to play (and I would even go sofar as to say if a horror game isn't fun) then really what is the point? Immersion? Not on my count. It's impossible to get immersed in a game you're hating. The shooting is bland, the contextual flashbang is mind-boggling and I hadn't the feeling the plot was up to much.
the thing is, the gameplay while not great isn't bad enough to destroy the feeling you get from the plot and while i don't want to spoil too much the plot is amazing, when i first rented the game i thought it would just be a tps but it evolves into so much more than that and the characters and the world around slowly fall into psychological shit

oh fuck me is it a guilt element, it is seriously the first time i have ever felt guilt playing a game, mainly because of how your squad react to you and while it may not be that bad while playing when you get to the end and everything you have done get's revealed and the truth and misery becomes apparent (aswell as the short little sequence after the ending) you will feel so fucking guilty and will lose any feeling of being right or just

Yahtzee is the only person thus far to actually make me laugh at multiple fart jokes.

I played the demo of this game, and really liked it. I'm eager to get my hands on it as soon as possible.
