Overall The Conduit is just bland, I bought it beause the Americans on a board I went to always went on about how great the multiplayer is but when I played it it felt like FEAR multiplayer (which I hated) with crippling lag issues (framerate goes to hell in about 70% of the matches and this game is headshot centric!). And like FEAR I regret spending 50€ on it.
The massive control customization is just a cop-out, apparently they weren't capable of delivering good controls by themselves and just throw that job at the player. I was able to untangle that mess of options somewhat but it still doesn't feel right (especially the waggle is too hard to trigger precisely and the nunchuk tends to register double when it does) and I think most people are less option-happy than I am. Meanwhile a 10€ game grabbed from WiiWare has properly working controls right off the bat with only one option (speed which should be set to highest) and waggle that always registers when it should while not overloading the controller with tons of functions you never need.
I don't think The Conduit is good for a Wii game. It's not, it's uninteresting and bland.

Will there ever truly be a competent Wii shooter?
Dunno, I liked the WiiWare offerings (Onslaught, Water Warfare, SP and MP game, respectively). They're fun and don't require half an hour to get the controls working.
