It could be alright. Personally, I think a Civil War zombie game would be cooler. Preferably with authentic reload times.

While I'm not aware of any, I DO like the idea.

If I could play as a Roman Centurion hacking my way through a horde of undead... I donnow, that might just make my fucking day.
Exactly my point. Any idea of a company that could make a great game in this style, just out of curiously?
I never expected to actually say these words but: I think it might be a job for Sega.

Mostly I say that because this obviously needs to be a game with fantastic first-person melee combat, and their game Condemned: Criminal Origins is about the ONLY game that I've played with anything resembling satisfying melee combat.
Escape from Butcher's Bay, and Assault on Dark Athena had some pretty damn good melee combat. Butcher's Bay more-so, because it was harder to get a gun. That game was made by Starbreeze studios.

I'm sure they could do a good job with the concept of zombies in the middle ages.
I might go and check those games out, I've heard good things about them and at this point the price [http://www.amazon.com/Chronicles-Riddick-Escape-Butcher-Bay-Xbox/dp/B00019HNN2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1263952125&sr=8-1] is right. [http://www.amazon.com/Chronicles-Riddick-Assault-Athena-Xbox-360/dp/B001L18RIE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1263952149&sr=8-1]

But as for the topic at hand, like I said I can only recommend companies with games I've actually played so I'm forced to stay with Sega for now.

...

Feudal Japan VS Zombies might also be pretty bad ass. You'd actually get to use a katana in a game where it FITS AND MAKES SENSE rather than it just being stuck in because the developers were uncreative hacks who thought it would be cool!
In that case, a word to the wise. Assault on Dark Athena has both games, Escape from Butcher's Bay, and Assault on Dark Athena, because Dark Athena was originally supposed to be an expansion, not a full game. So if you want to buy them, only buy Dark Athena, it has the original game with updated graphics and AI, and the sequel. All together, it's about 20 hours of gameplay + multiplayer.
Ah! Good things to know.

...

Keeping with the far-east theme of my last idea, imperial China would also be a cool zombie game setting. Especially if you can jump/fly around doing kung-fu moves 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon' style.

I always thought it would be interesting to see a zombie game where the solution to survival wasn't just killing every one that comes along your path.

I don't count earlier resident evil games in this statement, because even though ammo was sparse... You still had enough of it to mostly be on the aggressive in those games...

I hate to break it to many zombie fans.. For I myself struggle with this concept each time I think about it. Once the zombie apocalypse finally breaks out in RL... A majority of us won't be able to hold our own, despite all the training our zombie survivor simulators have taught us...

It would just be interesting to see a zombie game where, although violence IS an option... It probably wouldn't be the best solution in ways of long term survival.

I could just picture an open world zombie game that involved all the other aspects to surviving the zombie apocalypse that have seem to be forgotten the past couple of years...

One that involved creating shelters in detailed houses, scavenging for food and water... Looking for and meeting other survivors, who may be useful depending on what kind of person they are.. (cops being slightly better in combat.. Mechanics and engineers would be better at building things, etc) Who may or may not be into having you tag along, so you have to possibly win them over, or could more or less even try to back stab you at some point.

The occasional defense posts, where something happens and you must keep your current shelter from being bombarded by a giant wave of zombies for a night. Where getting on the good side of other survivors would come in handy.

Hell this could even still work out as a medieval game... Just got to change a few things around...

Oh and of course it would contain the fast zombies... Those slower ones are so oldschool...

I really want to see a Napoleonic style zombie game. Disciplined ranks of men letting out volley after volley or lead death to those that are already dead? Hope the first volley hits cause your gonna need time to reload!

I think this would make a better movie though.

now though...who needs a gun.Youll always run out of ammo.but if ya have a melee weapon you can use that anytime.ya need to use it right though.

hell back ten ya could of used a sword basic shield.Maybe a crossbow or so.If its been invented.
also maybe black magic worked too.Burn the zombies.or turn them against each other.

Sounds fun, wish I could send an arrow into the brain of an unsuspecting zombie, or maybe launch an electrocution spell.

This is screaming to me "if you design it... they will come"
As a flash artist I would love some more specifics on this. If people would give me suggestions I could surely make something of them.
Note the *flash* part. I'm only good for 2D games atm.

OT: Yes, I would definitely check that out. I always thought the coolest parts of the zombie survuval guide were the unconventional weapons. Particularly, don't pick up the chainsaw or flamethrower (if it's even available), do pick up a crossbow or katana or shaolin spade (if available).

Just from reading that book there are tons of possibilities.

If not me, someone needs to at least try this.

2D games FTW bro! Zombies swarm up to Sparta, devouring everyone they come by. Them the Spartan warriors gather up, and charge the opposing force. Take it from them, and you have a badass games.
