Rifle. Either bolt-action (RE4) or lever action (Fallout NV).

And a really good knife (either game). Knives don't need reloading.

Ah, this is an easy one. The answer here is an assault rifle with the necessary conversion to change it into a proper sniper rifle. It'll have all the necessary settings. Single for occasions where I can take aim, burst for times when 'best guess' is the better option, and full-auto for those situations where I need to slow down a group and RUN.

If we're assuming that I not only have the game experience but my actual knowledge, than I have a crowbar as well, and my retractible club where the crowbar doesn't apply. We can also assume that game resources means that I can actually find and conserve ammunition properly, so I will be able to do the things I said above.

If you wear a combat knife on your chest...you can plunge it into an eye-socket if you do get surprised by a zombie. It's a last-minute defense.

But you're right...if it only takes a scratch to get infected...melee should be out of the question. Oh and throwing knives are ranged weapons.

My weapon of choice would be AA12 with drum mags and the mini nuke ammo forget its proper clasification

an ARM galil with dual mag+red dot sight, because the ARM is my favorite gun in black ops and shoots a lot of bullets really fast, has a huge ammo reserve, might as well be a machine gun but isn't, and best of all it's nice and accurate! ooah! as a backup weapon i'd like a mossberg 590 shotgun and as a melee weapon i'd like a crowbar because it can break open supply crates and stuff. i'd like to add a suppresor to that galil and i'll only use my shotgun if things get ugly.
