Ok, maybe not quite, but it's still fun to try to break the code. So, fellow Escapists, as there are no doubt many of you who are quite adapt at cracking these things, what terrible secret (and possibly subliminal message) has this nefarious branch of the military placed in the logo?

I got nothing, except a series of numbers after converting it to binary, then to decimal.

Edit: No way it's a conspiracy! Everything is fine. Go buy more things!

Well a google for the code in the image leads to this rather bizarre website [http://www.niconnect.com/]. I'm not sure what that image is supposed to be (it's entitled '9ec4c12949a4f31474f299058ce2b22a', which is the code in the OP's image) but it looks oddly familiar to me.

EDIT: This site is weird. I ran a BlackWidow crawl of the site's server and it has no assets except for the single page and image which it seems to believe is relevant to a hash exploit. The source code suggests that the site's image and sole asset '9EC4C12949A4F31474F299058CE2B22A' will print for someone whose html header reads that they're from Brasilia in Brazil with an objective of 'Hash Exploit'. Whatever, this looks like it's not related to the OP's point. It's probably not even all that exciting, despite its obscurity.

More EDIT: It seems that the image is irrelevant, it's the image's title '9EC4C12949A4F31474F299058CE2B22A' which is relevant. That's a hash key which will be fetched by an application and is probably linked to some 'real' data in some hash table somewhere. This all sounds very 24 and CIA, but it's really not. This is probably part of some computer science university project for a dispersed hash table, or remote hash key delivery. Previous caches of the site have the hash in plain text, so the image is just irrelevant.

its just a series of numbers on a logo, dont worry about it. im pretty sure the US government (as stupid as it is) would not put top secret info on a logo. its not national treasure and you aint nick cage

now drop the gun, take the tin-foil of your head and back away slowly

Huh, it might be a portal to a hellish realm of perpetual torment and suffering, or it might just be a random assortment of black and white objects. I'm kinda hoping for the former...

Red herring. It's just like a joke only more distracting.

I think I read somewhere that's some kind of code Japanese people use.

It's purpose is to get people thinking it's something meaningful and ultra secret despite being placed in a public logo, thus distracting the public from actual hidden activities.

It looks like a hexadecimal number.
Yep, which can be converted into binary, and then into base ten: 158 196 193 41 73 164 243 20 116 242 153 5 140 226 178 42

And it seems the code means something really trite and predictable, if the comments on the Wired article are correct. A shame really, I was hoping for something along the lines of "All your base are belong to us"

Check this out.
Very cool, thanks. This is the decoded info:

NICONNECT.COM
Poder Cibernetico
9EC4C12949A4F31474F299058CE2B22A
Brazil

'Poder Cibernetico' literally translated to English means 'Cyber Power'. Was this the code? Is that it?

That was one of the answers I saw over at Wired. Good job!

This is creepy.

And thethingthatlurks, I *kinda* accidentally reported your post. Sorry. I'm new and I say the "R" and thought it was the reply button.

...sorry.

Cheers! I'll investigate it more tomorrow, I ran a traceroute on their server and a whois and found it took a very interesting route and that the whois claims it's housed in a federal building. Right now I have to get back to studying.

If any of you have a iphone, download an app along the lines of 'a bar code reader' (sorry don't remember the exact name but will look up tonight & update), then scan the image with your camera with the app open. you should see, or be taken to another link that should fill in the blanks on this mystery. the image the code brings up is a simple bar code mostly used for computers. i myself do not have a iphone, just a touch, sadley =(, so i would be curious to see where the next step is. please keep me posted
luck to all

"It's obviously the secret that ties together how Bigfoot shot JFK, and how the Bush administration really caused 9/11 with the help of Jimmy Hoffa. And of course Elvis has already taken everyone back to Atlantis on his spaceship.

That code is Elvis' adress. We figure it out and all will be revealed."

Those were the last words of D.B cooper, after he jumped into the Bermuda Triangle.
