Well, a new show was just released onto this very site, in a very similar style to Zero Punctuation, so I thought I might compare the two
If you can't be bothered reading all of this, just post something about how amazing you find Pandas or something.
Now, down to business!
We all know what Zero Punctuation is. It's the show which brought 99%, or more, of us to The Escapist. For the uninitiated, Zero Punctuation is a game review show, written by Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw. It was first posted on Youtube on the 24th of July, 2007, in the form of a review of the demo of the game The Darkness
<youtube=eWS9_nrKOPA>
It was met with a great deal of praise, so he released a second video, again in the same Windows Movie Maker, Static images and fast talking style, this time reviewing the game Fable.
The Escapist quickly noticed these videos, and contacted him, offering him a contract to continue making video reviews on this very site.

It quickly became widely known, and incredibly popular. Whether or not you think that the quality of the humor is going down~hill, you can't deny the cleverness and humor in the original videos.
Now, Extra Credit.
To be honest, I hadn't ever heard of it before a few days ago. I only found out about it because of a thread saying that there is a new show coming to Escapist. For those who don't know, (pretty much everyone,) Extra Credit is the new name of a previously un~named lecture series on Youtube. It is written by some guy called Daniel Floyd, and another some guy called James Portnow, who joined later.
<spoiler=This is the first video><youtube=1jdG2LHair0&feature=related>
You may have noticed that at the end of the video, it actually says that it was inspired by Zero Punctuation. You also may have actually noticed that "Extra Credit" is kinda interesting. You may not think so, but in my opinion anyway, Extra Credit's material was both funny, intelligent, and had a good deal of interesting information. You may not think so, and I may just be acting like an idiot, but I've learned more about Games in the 7 episodes of Extra Credit, than in the 150 something Zero Punctuation episodes.
Floyd was recently adopted by the Escapist as well.

I'll give you an example. Now, I am not a massive nerd. Nerd, of course. I hang out on an internet forum. What the hell do you think? Sorry, back on topic. Okay. I'm not too into the whole "Robotics" thing. I, until recently, had no idea what the Uncanny Valley is. So when Yahtzee mentioned it in his review of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, I was extremely confused. Not confused enough to Google it, no. But confused none the less. <spoiler=Here's the Link>http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation/75-Oblivion
Sorry. I have no idea how to link a video that isn't from Youtube. Again, regular nerd.
However! Extra Credit did an entire episode on it. Us regular nerds are saved.

Okay. Maybe this isn't a good example. But the point remains.
Now, maybe it isn't entirely appropriate to compare the two. They are both of a similar style, but ZP reviews games, where as Extra Credit reviews Game aspects. But since they are of the same style, and one was actually inspired from the other, I think that they are similar enough.
The first episode of Extra Credits was just released, <spoiler=Just the link, sorry>http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/extra-credits/1887-Video-Games-Bad-Writingso go ahead and check that out. I enjoyed it, and hopefully you did too. Given that ZP and EC are of similar animation style, length, voicing style, and humor, I don't think it would be appropriate to say who is the better show. It is down to opinion anyway.
so much for all of that -.-
But, I think that EC is better. It is clever, unlike the new ZP, (Sorry guys) and I think that that will be enough.
Well, that's my 5 cents. What do you people think?
