Smallville, where Superman grew up.
SmallVille, a play on Superman's hometown to gain ground on the folks who play Zynga games.

I understand where Zynga is coming from.

But they suck so it is fine. Just like if someone punched a serial killer in the face I'd be cool with it, but punching a random person in the face is still not cool.

Unless that random person is Zynga or a Serial Killer.

I heard CityVille is a completely original idea and has no similarities to another game series that started out in the '90s oh wait...
I had hoped when it got super popular that EA would create another Sim City.

Now I just wish some indie company would make "City builder sim" their thing.

Really? They think they own a suffix? My hometown is called 'Marksville', do we have to start paying Zynga royalties now?

Gotta admit though, capitalizing the vee-diddly-ee is a bit of a noodle scratcher.
Your hometown is Marksville not MarksVille.

It's stupid and subtle...but that's their point.

Didn't Zynga close down some group, or at least try to, for blatantly copying their Ville games? Even though those very same Ville games are more or less ripping off games from other people who were just a little too slow to push the copyright through?

Perhaps they will also use the wayback machine to sue Hanna-Barbera/Cartoon Network and Powerpuff Girls for the use of Townsville in their games...

So, Zynga is fine with Smallville, but objects to SmallVille? You know, I'm fine with this. Superman is from Smallville, not SmallVille. The capital V does imply they are trying to ride Zynga's coattails (such as they are). They should just drop the capital V and be done with it...

"Zynga has spent years on researching and developing innovative and original games."

Good one.

This was what I was about to say. Now I don't have to.

So Zynga want's to own everything that ends with Ville now?

I don't get why they do this, or even why all major corporations seem to to this.
You'd think they would have enough money.
because that is their goal to monopolize everything they can get their hands on and if you think they have enough money you are mistaken as a business never sees that they ever have enough money as they always seek new ways to gain more profit even if it means playing dirty.

OT i hope Zynga get crushed beneath the mighty boot of DC as the name Smallville was already part of the DC world and it is owned by them so Zynga can go get itself crushed for even trying to be smart let alone an obvious monopolizing scheme

Zynga... Sigh.

They're just trying too hard to pretend to be Bethesda at this stage.

Ridiculous.

It took them years of research and innovation to capitalize a letter mid word? They aren't the first people to do this, but I can see how they'll try to sue for likeness. Back in the day people would just be happy that a company like DC recognizes them.

Nobody is going to confuse the two.

Once you've played one Zynga game, you've played them all.

Also:

"Zynga has spent years on researching and developing innovative and original games. It's very unfortunate when other studios try to leech off our efforts. We must bring an end to these endeavors."

Yep, pretty much my reaction.

Let's think about the case the other way round. Zynga comes out with a game called SmallVille. Same result. DC would sue for sure.

I think Zynga's case does actually have so--

Waaaaaaiiit a minute. Wait just a cotton-pickin' minute here.

[HEADING=1]WE DUN BEEN TROLLED Y'ALL[/HEADING]

You ALMOST had me, OP, but I'll give it to you anyway.

I do not like Zynga

But they DO have a point - a very good point

So....I'm sorry the V is an attempt to fit in and cash in

If they wanted to stand on own merits drop the V

...and now I feel dirty defending Zynga. Thank you escapist

Wait Zynga has released 7 of those ville games already? Mother of god.
Also what on earth is "YoVille"?
